“My dear friends, don’t believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you.” (I John 4: 1, Message Bible)

This biblical wisdom is so relevant today. We must be alert to what is real and true, and not believe all that we hear, or even everything that we see, even if the source seems credible to us.

We have the precious gift of discernment. This isn’t about experience or education. This spiritual awareness is the ability to recognize what is right and valid over what may appear to be true, and at times alarming. This ability to rightly weigh and examine things comes from God. When we pause and look to Him, we are able to set aside our own human opinions, fears, or ingrained prejudices, and see what is real, what is God’s Truth to know.

And, likewise, we can recognize the deception, even if it seems to simulate truth. We can see that what we hear from people or even what the senses might tell us, does not present the whole story. The limited view has a personal, subjective spin, even when it is well-meaning. We must be willing to work a little harder. We must give up the easy way, being sheep following the herd, thinking another must know something we don’t.

God is wise and He has the good word on everything. Use your God-given spiritual senses. Weigh what you hear carefully. Be sure it rings true with God—with Love, with justice, with peace. If it is of God, then we can surely believe it, accept it, and share it!

“He stilled the storm to a murmur, and the waves of the sea were hushed. They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet. Then He guided them to the harbor they longed for.” (Psalms 107: 29-30, Holman Christian Standard Bible)

God’s gentling is here. We can rejoice and allow our Father-Mother to do what He does so well—to reveal to us in every place His control, His harmony, His peace for His beloved creation.

We may feel those storms raging inside us or around us, but God’s Word of Truth, His ever-presence, and the power of His Love, can subdue the tempest. We can recognize and honor God’s ability to govern us and all righteously, with tenderness and light and wisdom. We can stop generating more waves with our fear and our arguments for the power of evil, our believing more in the storm than in the peace that is real and ready.

Just as God has guided those in the days of old out of harm’s way, out of wildernesses, over the seas of sense and subjugation, He is at hand to lead us as well. The harbor that we long for—the safe point of protection with a glorious view of life—is waiting for us. God knows the way. He’s ready to calm our doubts, open our eyes, and reveal the holy home, that true serenity, that is ours to enjoy.

“As I journey through life, I put all your statutes to music; they become the theme of my joyous songs.” (Psalms 119: 54, the Passion Translation)

God’s governing goodness is not stodgy, narrow, limiting, or uninspiring. Obeying and abiding in God’s laws bring an artistry to our lives, a majesty built of possibilities.

We can journey through life and think more of God’s qualities at the heart of all we are doing. We can continue to remember that Love and Truth are the essential elements of being, and as we trust and obey God, our lives can move and dance and blossom in beautiful ways.

The psalmist puts God’s statutes to music. He chose to let God—not matter, self, opinion, personal power and success—be the theme in all he did. And these songs of reliance on God, this soundtrack to his life, was not somber and monotonous. These songs were full of joy!

For God’s statutes, His laws that lead us to be who we were made to be—good, loving, righteous, giving—are worthy of celebrating in song, with praise. For God’s law sets us free to experience the ebullience and buoyancy of being, a melodious life of Love!

“Divinity is always ready.” (Science and Health, p. 458)

Accept this wonderful assurance. We may feel unready, unsteady, uncertain. We may feel that we don’t know what to do, or if the time is right. We may feel that we don’t have the tools or ability or composure to accomplish what we feel needs accomplishing.

But our own personal, human readiness is not required. Our ego, our will, is not the driving factor in success. We only need to be ready to accept God’s presence and power, His precision and peace.

Material resources may be limited. We may feel we don’t personally have what it takes. But divinity tells us a different story. Divinity—the divine nature with us and within us—is always prepared, always absolutely ready to do what God would have done. God’s qualities are never in want. They are never stingy, depleted, or waiting for a better opportunity.

Now is always the right time for the divine to make itself known with the Truth that sets us free, sets things straight; with the Love that releases, comforts, and heals. The divine, the spiritual, the eternal, doesn’t sit in a box of time and worry. It simply is the active All.

Let’s know this and allow God to show us His grace at hand, His Love already on the case, ready to heal and to bless.

“Finally, believers, rejoice! Be made complete [be what you should be], be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace [enjoy the spiritual well-being experienced by believers who walk closely with God]; and the God of love and peace [the source of lovingkindness] will be with you.” (II Corinthians 13: 11, Amplified Bible)

We can gratefully realize our completeness. We can walk with the feeling of lovingkindness embracing us, while extending our embrace to one another.

It is about believing. It is about being willing to give up our denials and excuses, our doubts and our human arguments, and joyously accepting the facts, the eternal Truth of God’s law of Life. This acceptance of reality, this openness to receiving God’s daily word to us—about us and our world—reveals our wholeness. We become what we were meant to be, what God made us to be—complete, peaceful, loving, and ready to share this goodness with others.

Let’s rejoice in God’s peace. It is greater than we are. It is greater than our beliefs in chaos, the fears we would cling to which lead us to unhealthy, unhelpful thoughts and actions. God’s love and peace are overwhelmingly beautiful, active, and at hand. This peace is in us to be accepted and utilized. It comes of God, so it can conquer discord. It can release us from the grip of war—the wars that we keep alive in our hearts as well as those in our world.

Well-being, spiritual poise, calm, and kindness are ours to feel and to share. Receive. Believe. Rejoice.

“It’s God’s own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favorites.” (Act 10: 34, The Message)

God’s Word is loud and clear. He doesn’t play favorites! One of His children is not better than the rest nor does one deserve more affection and goodness than another. God made us with infinite variety, but equal in artistry and equally loved and lovable.

God is a perfect Father-Mother. He created each one of us intentionally and beautifully. Love was His reason for giving us life, and Love continues to sustain us. We may look around at others and believe they are more blessed than us. Or we may feel we deserve more than another because of some flaws we see in them.

But God does not give to one and take from another. God doesn’t withhold from any of His children a single good thing. He is fair and His Love is flawless and infinite. He didn’t make an undeserving idea, nor is God—Who is goodness and Love—capable of being stingy or judgmental.

At times, God’s Love for us may make us feel reprimanded. But it is because of His deep care that He is encouraging us to turn away from what isn’t safe or good—as any father would do for his beloved child—and led into what is best and beneficial and progressive for us.

This verse is God’s Truth, not simply a wish or a hope. God loves each and every one of us with boundless Love. Receive this blessing for yourself and thank and honor God by living it out through your treatment of others as well.

“Don’t just listen to the Word of Truth and not respond to it, for that is the essence of self-deception. So always let his Word become like poetry written and fulfilled by your life!”  (James 1: 22, the Passion Translation)

Don’t deceive yourself! Don’t allow that beautiful word of God to come to you and to reject it, ignore it, or choose not to believe it. Don’t let the devil land on your shoulder and talk you out of joy.

The Word of Truth, that loving awareness of God’s ever-presence and goodness, is coming to us to save us, uplift us, set us free. This good news of our oneness with Love itself, with everlasting Life, with the Soul that expresses perpetual harmony, should be accepted with an open heart, and fully.

Let’s not fool ourselves into believing that hearing the word and calling ourselves believers is enough. If we are true believers, we must respond to the Word, for it is a call to life and to love. And when we let God’s glorious Truth infuse our moments, we are the poetic fulfillment of God’s purpose, a beautiful expression of the healing colors of light.

“See, God has come to rescue me; I will trust in Him and not be afraid, For the Eternal, indeed, the Eternal is my strength and my song. My very own God has rescued me. With joy in each step, you will drink deeply from the springs of salvation.” (Isaiah 12: 2-3, the Voice)

God is right now delivering us from fear, from danger, even from ourselves and our own self-doubt.

Let’s not be afraid. We are not reliant on our own energy, ingenuity, stamina, and will-power to push ahead, to get better, to be free. We have the Eternal, the Almighty goodness of the Truth right with us to trust in and lean safely upon. God is walking with us along our way, even through the rough patches, and He won’t let us fall or judge our timid or uncertain steps.

So, let’s walk with joy because we know we aren’t alone. We walk in the might and magnificence of God. He is always preserving us because He loves us. We can sing forth His praises, celebrate His qualities that are reliable, good, and at hand in every moment, in every challenge, and plentifully ready to enrich and save us.

“To me, you are very dear, and I love you. That’s why I gave up nations and people to rescue you. Don’t be afraid! I am with you.” (Isaiah 43: 4-5, Contemporary English Version)

God will always come to your rescue. You are always most precious to Him—loved and important and special. You are a top priority. God will move heaven and earth to make sure you feel safe, whole, restored.

So, let’s not be afraid. God doesn’t let the presentation of mortal existence with all its limiting beliefs and situations stand in His way. He simply continues to be the omnipotent All, the loving Truth that does not flinch at the lies but stands firm, unshakeable, in that loving, infinite, harmonious reality that includes us.

God is with us. He fully loves us. No matter the pull of fear and doubt, the appearance of danger or darkness, God’s light remains strong and undaunted. He will find you right where you seem to be and show you where you truly are—secure, peaceful, at home in the forever embrace of His Love.

“The mind of him who has understanding seeks knowledge and inquires after and craves it, but the mouth of the [self-confident] fool feeds on folly.” (Proverbs 15: 14, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

Let’s keep our minds open and ready to gain more understanding. Let’s be wise enough to close our mouths from spouting opinion and believing what is not honestly from God, good.

We need to be humble enough to be led in new directions, not set in our ways or full of the pride of personal knowledge. Truth transcends what we may think we know, and true wisdom is to realize this and continue to listen, to be ready to be changed, to crave answers that are true and right for oneself and for all.

Acquiring human knowledge or power can set one in a position of arrogance, of self-confidence that is not based on what is right and good, but only on what seems to serve one in that moment. Tongues wag with bluster and defensiveness and yet this does not bring true peace or progress.

Let’s be willing to listen and to learn. Let’s stop letting the ego talk and instead humbly and gratefully let God speak. This is wisdom. This is Love.
