“Remember to stay alert and hold firmly to all that you believe. Be mighty and full of courage.” (I Corinthians 16:13, the Passion Translation)

Don’t let the world lull you to sleep. Don’t be fooled into letting go of what you believe is true and right because you see so much to the contrary. Don’t allow yourself to feel things are too big for you to handle or that you are a victim of fate or some inevitable force of time and tide.

Stay alert and stay loyal to what you know. God’s Truth of Life does not give up so easily. It is sustained reality, even if it seems hidden in a sense of darkness or confusion or fear. We have a right to feel courageous. We have God’s own power with us, to lean on and trust. It is not human bravery. It is a release to the Almighty.

We can discern when we are being led astray. We can open our eyes to the deception which would cause us to believe that evil wins or that selfishness is necessary. We can stop thinking that we are small and weak, and that a majority of opinions is greater than the omnipotence of divine Truth.

Hold firmly to your convictions and keep listening for God’s guidance as you march forth, fearless in light, motivated by love.

“‘This is life eternal,’” says Jesus, — is, not shall be; and then he defines everlasting life as a present knowledge of his Father and of himself, — the knowledge of Love, Truth, and Life.” (Science and Health, p. 410)

Everlasting life is not the afterlife. An eternal existence doesn’t begin when we pass the threshold out of this human experience through death. Jesus cleared this up definitively with his words and works.

Right here, right now, eternal life is ours. This true sense of immortality—a life that is endless and timeless and fearless—is to be realized, felt, lived right here and now. Jesus told us that life is eternal. This wasn’t a promise for a later time, but a declaration of Truth, a fact of this life.

Jesus was able to realize this eternal life, to transcend the death process, by his daily and focused recognition of his Father, God, and of himself as forever at one with this Father. Jesus brought to us this Christ-message. We were being told to do as he did—to come to know God better, to come to understand that God is ever-present, that He is Life, Truth, and Love.

To claim and acknowledge this Truth is to live our eternal, full, joyful, free, loving life right here and now and ever.

“Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?” (Malachi 2: 10)

We truly all have one father. God is our Creator and the Parent of us all. We are brothers and sisters, each and every one of us. There is not a single individual who was not born of God, made out of His creativity and love.

Let’s recognize this and cherish our family. Let’s stop thinking and behaving toward one another as if they are strangers and even enemies, and let’s remember that we are all blessed to be God’s own children.

And we can honor our Father-Mother by staying true to Him and His principles. To turn on our brother is to turn against God, to turn against Love, to choose to defy Him Who gave us Life.

Let’s do our best to see God’s face in every one of His children. Let’s remember our oneness with God as the very expression of His Life and His purpose, and let’s treat one another as we would treat our dearest sibling.

This love in thought and deed is our true nature. It can reach others, reminding them that they are also born of Love, made to love and be loved, just as we are.

“With my whole heart have I sought You, inquiring for and of You and yearning for You; Oh, let me not wander or step aside [either in ignorance or willfully] from Your commandments.” (Psalms 119: 10, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

We can earnestly yearn for a deeper understanding of God—of Life and Love. We can have that right desire to lose selfishness and fear and doubt by seeking God’s inspiration and guidance.

As we pray for this daily awakening to God’s grace, we can also pray for the discipline that keeps us on the path that is safe, right, and pleasing to God. We can look to God for His direction and learn to recognize better, with His help, what is human will and what is truly God’s design.

God’s commandments align us with His qualities. They are the law that undergirds reality, and as we keep in step with these higher laws of Life, we are set free to be what He caused us to be. Obeying God by lovingly trusting in Him Who is Love brings us our true heart’s desire, that sense of wholeness and peace that we seek and can’t fail to find, with God.

“…deep in your hearts you know that the Lord has kept every promise he ever made to you. Not one of them has been broken.” (Joshua 23: 14, Contemporary English Version)

Search your heart. Stop listening to the complaining ego, hell-bent on clinging to its perceptions based on a limited view of things. Try to release, gratefully, the mortal mind’s noisy whining over its presumed disappointments and its fears for the future.

God’s promises are deeper than this. They are Love’s purpose coming into being, a growth in understanding, a truer sense of self and of life as it truly is. God’s promise is a covenant—that unbroken relationship between His Truth and our own being. This bond is inseverable. It hasn’t ever been broken and it can’t be.

We are always at one with infinite Life and Love. We are always pleasing to our Father-Mother-God. We are always progressing in the light that He would have us know and see and be.

Life is governed by God and not by mortal desires. We will make many choices in our lives. Sometimes those things may not come to pass as we expect. But God’s intention remains intact and unfolding. He knows what is right and good and best and most satisfying.

Deep in your heart you can hear God’s wise and loving voice and you know that it is Truth.

“Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” (Philippians 2: 14-15)

Let’s be the lights we were meant to be. Let’s consciously choose to be peaceful and kind, to approach life with spiritual poise, rather than ready to rumble or grumble.

We are the sons and daughters of God. Let’s behave accordingly. We may be living in what appears a difficult time and feel that it is only reasonable to complain and argue, to join in the chorus of chaos. But we have the distinct privilege of thinking and acting like our true selves. We have the honor, each day, to shine in a world that needs it, rather than waiting for some hero to take up our cause.

This doesn’t mean we roll over and take personal abuse. But it does mean we stop seeing danger at every turn and take on a constant posture of defensiveness. Living peacefully with one another; listening to differing points of view; looking for solutions rather than looking to “win,” lifts us up and awakes others to their true nature as well.

Let’s be radiant as we were made to be. Let’s rejoice that the light we bring naturally dispels the darkness within us and around us.

“Then Jesus said, ‘I am light to the world, and those who embrace me will experience life-giving light, and they will never walk in darkness.’” (John 8: 12, the Passion Translation)

Embrace the Christ. Willingly, humbly, gratefully agree to believe in the great Truth that Jesus brought to the world. We are being invited into the light, the conscious awareness that we are one with God, beloved, His children.

This light dispels all darkness. It is a beacon not only for living our own lives but for bringing peace and healing to the world. Even if we seem to have trials and fears, when we are aware of this light of God’s Love with us and in us, we can never truly be in the dark. We have peace within, a hope that expands into inspiration, into saving thoughts and actions that bless us and others.

This light of the world is meant for us here today. Jesus proved that the life-giving light of God is eternal, deathless, infinite. This light is not a burden to us, nor is it foreign to us in any way. God’s light, that Jesus demonstrated for humanity, is that innate goodness, warmth, and love within each of us that only needs to be recognized and embraced.

“…get on with your new life. God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go! This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike ‘What’s next, Papa?’ God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are.” (Romans 8: 14-16, the Message)

What’s next? Let’s relish the childlike eagerness for the new, the joyful, the productive in our lives. God’s Spirit is constantly awakening us to greet the day expecting blessings.

We have a lot to do. We each have daily opportunities to express God’s qualities and to feel them make our lives shine and blossom. We are not here merely to kill time until we pass into a new experience. Life is not a mortal slogging, but a divine soaring! Today has something to offer us that we didn’t see yesterday.

We have a resurrection life. The Christ has revealed this good news to all of us. We are always being made new. This is the natural state of being of an immortal child of God. There is always something to discover, to feel, to appreciate that we haven’t known before.

And we always have something to contribute, some of our own special light to bring to others by being who we truly are, who God daily confirms us to be through His ever-renewing Love.

“And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work.” (II Corinthians 9: 8, Revised Standard Version)

We have a God of plenty. And this God is Love. He is not stingy, nor does He need to be. God, Spirit, has an infinite supply of good to bestow and is ready to do this for each of us.

We can stop the complaints and arrest our fears through our humble trust. God is a giver, and we can be open to receiving what He has to give. This may require us to release our human qualifications—our “ifs,” “ands,” and “buts”— and to have more faith in our generous Father. In order to see what is ours to receive, we may have to turn our eyes and thoughts away from comparing with what another has, believing that their good is our loss, or envying their gifts.

God is able to provide. His provisions are blessings—specific to you, just right, what the wisdom of Love surely must bestow. God is able to supply your needs in ways that not only keeps you safe, cared for, and satisfied, but which also serve His purpose. God’s abundant provision gives you what you need to do His work, to share His light and love in the wonderful ways that only you can do.

“May Jesus himself and God our Father, who reached out in love and surprised you with gifts of unending help and confidence, put a fresh heart in you, invigorate your work, enliven your speech.” (II Thessalonians 2: 16-17, the Message Bible)

Be a receiver. Be humbly eager to be revived, refreshed, enlightened by a power beyond your own wits and will. Expect to be invigorated and motivated to live and to give!

This benediction is a blessing upon its listeners and also a rich reminder. We are being awakened to the goodness that we have already received from God and from the Christ that revealed the message of light and life. We can remember that we have been embraced in God’s love and have been given aid in times of trouble.

And this activity continues. We are always on the receiving end of a new hope, a new life, a brand-new awareness of what is possible to us with God. And these possibilities include our natural ability to share the gifts we’ve been given in ways that are loving, healing, encouraging, and invigorating for others. Thus, this powerful benediction gets passed along and the world also is blessed as we are blessed.
