Being Free Now

“Treatises on anatomy, physiology, and health, sustained by what is termed material law, are the promoters of sickness and disease. It should not be proverbial, that so long as you read medical works you will be sick.” (Science and Health, page 179)

Sounds kind of like “ignorance is bliss”, right? Well, in a way that is what is meant here. Our ignorance of matter and its lying propositions, disquisition, and inquisitions against man and his perfection and peace, can keep us from the suffering these suppositions would expect and describe. We can understand enough to be aware and conscientious in our lives and dealings with others, without taking in the whole ball of sticky wax.

The fear engendered by researching and ruminating on symptoms and their causes and phases, is harmful to our well-being. This unnecessary preoccupation sends us deep into matter and mortal mind, when our solution, our safety, our healing is found in Spirit, that which is not only good, but also perpetually true.

Our thought is our sense of things. What our thought dwells upon or allows in is expressed in our body, in our sense of what we are and who we are. When our thought gets involved with organs and functions, disease and material cures, we assume a body that is full of material substance instead of claiming our true body, the one that is untouchable, built of God’s goodness and perfection, and controlled flawlessly and lovingly by Him.

No, medical books, websites, or physicians can cause what God hasn’t caused. But, a mind filled with trouble is troubled, and we express as we think. So, let’s discover the truth in spiritual works and words, in prayer and praise, and live our naturally free and healthy lives!

DAY. The irradiance of Life; light, the spiritual idea of Truth and Love.” (Science and Health, page 584)

Our day, our newborn experience each dawn, must necessarily express that radiance that is God, Life, Truth and Love. This day is God’s, and its “irradiance” is that sense of a right energy and light that fills the very space in which it exists. It is a sort of perpetual and perpetuating life that illumines the moment from within it.

So, isn’t our day not so much about what we are about to embark upon, as what forever exists, what shines forth out of a completeness, wholeness, and omnipotence that God Himself forever maintains? It is then simply an unquenchable Source of power that demonstrates its boundless beauty and life through our being, through our awakening, through our acceptance, and our willingness to be at one with it.

Truth and Life are a constant generating source. They continue to both preserve all ideas and cause them to be active, multiply, flourish, and progress. This day is not in mortal hands or in the hands of time to be lost or wasted, unproductive or traumatic. This day, the Day that radiates the fullness and love that is Spirit, God, is everlasting and complete. It begins and ends in contentment, for completeness is the nature of God and of all that He is and does.

Wake up and know that this day brings a natural and self-maintained influx of light and life that is ours to live, to give, and to rejoice in!

“The divine Principle of all expresses Science and art throughout His creation, and the immortality of man and the universe.” (Science and Health, page 507)

Our divine Principle, God, is all that is right and good. He is the primary and only Source of all that is expressed. From Principle proceeds every right thought and action, all that constitutes reality, substance, life. This Principle is Soul. Within Soul every beautiful and pleasing and fruitful thing has its origin and its fullness and is ready for perfect expression.

And so we see. We hear. We move and feel and love. The universe is constantly and rightly showing forth that which God saw fit to make. It announces His precision and safety, His consistency and reliability, His infinite variety and His sweet simplicity. That which regulates all life, this Science of goodness and Truth and Love, is forever being faithfully upheld and perpetuated. Nothing can impede this harmony.

And Principle’s boundless fullness is irrepressible. It must be expressed in ways beyond the “practical.” It extends into those life-giving ideas that are art and music, artistry and poetry, drama and dance, the creativity and beauty that touches us in places that we cannot articulate, because they are beyond the worldly. God’s spiritual creation misses nothing and embraces all. Every moment we are bearing witness to God’s word and works, His ideas, His brilliance, His surprises. Every detail of being is His and ours to have, to know, and to love.

“…the Lord made me have dominion over the mighty.” (Judges 5: 13)

There is nothing too strong or powerful or insistent that we cannot triumph over it. God gave us dominion over those seeming powers of matter and of evil. We are never weak victims. We are never destined to simply roll over and take all that life, time, circumstance, human limiting opinion would throw at us.

The Lord gave you and me, very specific and intentional dominion. There is nothing that can oppose God’s goodness and overrule or run over His law of love. So, we, as His natural expression and His beloved, are also capable of putting down those aspersions on our peace, those unnatural impositions on His order, His rightness, His harmony, that which constitutes our blessed and protected life.

Don’t be wimpy about your dominion. Even at what seems to be your weakest moment, you are bigger than the most aggressive evil. You have this power not because you are humanly bold or brave, but because God demands His greatness be seen and expressed. He expects and accepts nothing less than His Life, that which proves His loving Principle and radiates His nature as well as His reign and tender control over all. Recognize and utilize with firmness and faith your supremacy over errors great and small. God granted us full dominion at the beginning, at the origin, and He has never taken away that right, our victory. We are on top of it all, small and mighty!

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” (Matthew 7:15)

False prophets can appear in many forms. They may or may not be malicious or greedy or charlatans. They may look benign and harmless, or seem inspired and inspiring,  but in the end disturb our peace, engender more fear, and keep us caged when the goal is freedom.

We must and can be alert to these alluring individuals and ideas. We don’t need to be paranoid about it, lacking trust and expectation, but we can listen and rely on that inner voice that tells us there is a cause for a pause. We can receive gratefully any good ideas from individuals without turning them into our savior, our better, our mediator with God. We can be open to other forms of worship or different opinions about life, without assuming that what works for one is really right for us.

Perhaps the most persistent and most accepted “wolf” is that presentation of the material senses. The physical picture and the world’s accompanying thought on this unreality can lure us into a dangerous den. The testimony of matter will always be a false prophet. Only Spirit speaks Truth, and it will never lead us into danger, into fear, into lack of peace, into anger or frustration or pain. The wolves of sense are a pack of lies!

So, we can be aware of the disguises and reject those liars from our thought, making room instead for the true prophets, those angel voices that assure, awaken, and heal.

“A mother’s affection cannot be weaned from her child, because the mother-love includes purity and constancy, both of which are immortal. Therefore maternal affection lives on under whatever difficulties.” (Science and Health, page 60)

In the human sense, a mother’s love may appear to come and go, to be variable depending on personality traits, experiences, tendencies. A mother may not be doting and consistent in pouring love out on a child. But a mother’s love still remains in spite of behavioral reactions and responses and separations, because there is that bond that expresses that oneness with the child, the ideal that comes of God, the true Mother of all.

Let’s recognize that true Mother-love, and see its evidence everywhere. Our Mother, God, is always consistently loving, always knowing the whereabouts of Her child (physically as well as in thought), understanding the child’s needs, whether that child be a little one or a mother herself. The protecting affection of divine Motherhood has no bounds, no limits, no distance or separation. It does not lose strength as a child grows to adulthood, passes through experiences, or misbehaves.

We are always being mothered by divine Love. Our children and our parents are receiving that same tenderness and wisdom, that unbreakable devotion, that pure unconditional loving care always, just as we are receiving it. So we are all brothers and sisters, loved equally by a Mother with boundless affection to give, and we are safe in that perfect, unifying, satisfying embrace.

“Love never loses sight of loveliness. Its halo rests upon its object.” (Science and Health, page 248)

We are holy because we are loved by Love. We are made magnificent and blessed and protected by the Father-Mother’s affection and approval. Her spiritual love for us is our sanctity, our wholeness, our ability to show forth the glory that belongs to the divine nature. God’s constant eye on us is that tender regard that makes us always beautiful, just as a loved one is always lovely to us; just as receiving the love of another makes us feel more adorable, more like ourselves.

God’s halo rests upon us. Accept its presence. Know who you are, what divine Love has caused you to be. You have a natural hue of holiness about you. Bathed in God’s light, ordained by His approving smile, you have an angelic presence and power. You have a gentle energy and a natural authority. You walk with God’s blessing on you, your hand always in His, your life the effortless expression of the love He has for you, His own great idea.

Don’t let anyone try to knock your halo off! Don’t accept a lesser image of yourself than God, Truth, sees. Don’t take your own halo off, either or reject it. You can keep it on and still be humble, for you didn’t put it there, God and His love did. So wear it as you would a gift from a loved one—with gratitude, proudly, and with an awareness that it is fitting, right, and yours to keep!

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” (Romans 13:1)

No person, no government, no organization, no material establishment can overrule God’s reign of Truth and Love. Everything and everyone is subject to God, to the one power, and He alone has the ability and right to ordain and sanction that which rules over creation—over men and nations.

There is no power but that which comes of God, good. Evil has no power, and there is no power in greed, in deception, in ignorance. If all power belongs to God and proceeds from Him, then the only real control, potency, strength, capacity must be wise and loving, must express the nature and substance of its Source.

We are under a reign of benevolence, not tyrannical governing by rulers or bosses or family members who may seem unkind or without understanding. Neither is our body subject to unloving and untrustworthy material systems and limits. Every idea answers to God, to Love, and so even those in human positions of power must obey Him; His justice and judgment are the first and final word. Let us know and rest in the fact that we each are subject to those higher powers, those spiritual truths that are never deposed, and let’s accept the presence of our peace. The powers that be know us and love us!

“Sin and sickness will abate and seem less real as we approach the scientific period, in which mortal sense is subdued and all that is unlike the true likeness disappears.”

The false sense that appears so vivid and aggressive, announcing prolific diseases and rampant sinfulness, darkness, and pain is giving itself up. The “scientific period” is that time in which we become conscious of the unreality of evil and the broad and all-encompassing and indisputable reality of good. The solid sense of matter and its control is fading away. Even the material scientists seem now to doubt its substance and are observing the mental and spiritual more closely.

The Christian Scientist is at the forefront of this new era, already ahead of the crowd and prepared to assert and demonstrate that we have already entered our heaven. We must rejoice in this awareness. We can stand firm as the worldly thought catches on and catches up, until it finally lets go of the need to cling to material disappointments and inconclusiveness, and to welcome in the clear and beautiful reality of God’s goodness, Spirit’s ever-presence, and Mind’s omniscience and satisfaction.

Staying with the Truth of being, leading the pack, demonstrating the facts as we understand them, we will bear witness to sin and sickness fading away, its mesmerizing hold being lost and the focus of all attention being drawn more to that which is real and powerfully healing. As we subdue the mortal sense of things individually, there is more light in the world, more of the true likeness appearing and so hope is stirred for all. Such hope opens wide the door to heaven, here and now, universally claimed, understood, and lived.
