Daily Inspiration, August 2nd

“Jesus’ life proved, divinely and scientifically, that God is Love, whereas priest and rabbi affirmed God to be a mighty potentate, who loves and hates.” (Science and Health, page 42)

Jesus knew God truly. This God with which he was always consciously at one, made it possible for him to heal spontaneously, to teach with a wisdom that has held up through the centuries and across cultural boundaries, and to ultimately prove that life was deathless and immortal. He was the Messiah, the messenger of that Christ-ideal, because he declared Truth, and that Truth was Love.

The religious leaders preceding Jesus had a different understanding of God. They certainly recognized God as One and as powerful. They worshipped with their obedient lives and according to their highest sense of religious practice. They saw God’s might and honored it. But the character of the Almighty was still more or less based on a human model, a king who was sometimes good and sometimes despotic, who alternately loved and hated, brought war and brought peace.

Jesus knew God to be Love alone and that Love to be All. He understood His Father-Mother not as an incomprehensible ruler, one Who could not be fully understood, one Who was variable and capable of hate. Jesus knew God was pure Love, and this is why he was able to prove all that he did, to heal, to overcome lack, to still storms, and to demonstrate death conquered. It was the understanding of divine Love’s presence that made this all possible, and this same God that makes all things possible today. We can always trust Love to be Love.

“Mind is not helpless. Intelligence is not mute before non-intelligence.” (Science and Health, page 191)

Divine Mind is wise and active. Divine Mind does not remain silent before error or allow ignorance to continue. The intelligence that is God, the one and only Mind that made all things, does not go blank in the face of evil, sickness, or discord. It does not become fearful and jump to conclusions based on the lies that matter tells.

Mind is our ever-present help and its intelligence is immediate action. Divine Mind’s wisdom is Love that removes the ignorance and fear and reveals the harmony at hand. We have this divine intelligence forever as our very own, for we are forever at one with God. We have this natural and powerful discernment of reality, and a certainty that God is All and in all.

Matter (non-intelligence) can’t make conditions for us or speak louder than the Truth. That which is conscious conscientiousness does not miss a detail in maintaining and sustaining perfection. We needn’t agree to a helpless mind that stands mute before the bluster of matter’s accusations. Instead, let us realize that active and potent Presence that knows all and knows that it is well.

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;…And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.” (I John 1: 1, 4)

The revelation of God’s Truth in our lives is a precious thing. We have been listening and so we are hearing that Word of life that is the very holy message that the disciples heard and that Jesus expressed. His proof of the unreality of material life and the everlasting nature of Spirit as Life is ours to hold and behold.

We, too, have received that healing truth of being and touched it, grasped it and felt it touch our own hearts and relieve our bodies. And we, with the disciples, know that it was true from the beginning and that we are still listening. The simple Principle, Truth, God, out of which all life proceeds, continues to remain firm and fixed, provable, reliable and completely loving. We have Jesus’s example, as well as the apostles’ faith and continued proofs as our own starting point.

That which the apostles heard and saw they could not contain or hoard. And their sharing was not in order that we struggle and be uncomfortable, toil and worry over it all. They shared with us what they knew (and we listened) so that our “joy may be full.” They echoed Jesus’ words and wishes in this. It is for our joy that we have witnessed the Christ, the practical Truth that walks the earth today through our own demonstrations, in our own loving and good lives, and in our grateful and open hearts.

“Mortals develop their own bodies or make them sick, according as they influence them through mortal mind. To know whether this development is produced consciously or unconsciously, is of less importance than a knowledge of the fact.” (Science and Health, page 199)

Mortal mind claims a material body and gives it characteristics, conditions, and abilities. Matter is a creation of mortal mind, and so that physical sense we may accept for ourselves is just a figment of that false mind’s imagination. When we accept mortal thoughts and ourselves as mortals, we may seem to experience the results of those fears and limits.

But we can know ourselves truly and so express those bodies that belong wholly to the consciousness of Mind, that which does not merely imagine, but which knows and expresses truly. In this acceptance of our immortal Mind as knowing every right thing concerning us, we are able to “develop” our bodies in a way that evidences the truth about us, that spiritual perfection that is here to be realized.

Let’s not get hung up on whether or not we are subconsciously or consciously accepting a lie about our identity. It only leads to an unnecessary preoccupation with mortal mind, wherein there is no healing element at all. Be aware only that the mortal mind would seek to present to us something that is entirely false, based on a premise that begins with a lie and must end with an untruth. Let’s give up this belief in a mortal mind and a mortal body altogether, and let ourselves be what our Mind made us to be, and keeps us to be—perfect, harmonious, beautiful, and at peace.

“…God is all, therefore…matter is nothing beyond an image in mortal mind.” (Science and Health, page 116)

Matter simply has no place or ability to be anything besides a delusion, illusion. God is All and in all. He is not made of matter nor does He express in quality a single limitation. Material substance must always be finite. Spiritual substance (reality) is always infinite, always available, always right.

Mortal thinking—that which denies the Truth but never changes it—would prop up another god to justify its fears and doubts and pains and limits. Matter is that god and it is just as unreal and powerless as were the graven images that were worshipped in days of old. Matter and its so-called laws have nothing to do with reality, and so they only apply to their own nothingness, never to man and his nature, worth, and life.

Leave the material image to mortal mind and let it have its dream. You are not a mortal. You are in possession of an awakened mind, one which knows God’s own consciousness, the very expressed idea of the universe. We are aware of Spirit and we know that its laws are loving, freeing, and supreme over all. The illusion has no power to change God’s intelligence and love, and so it isn’t an image we ever need to dwell on or accept. Instead, let’s realize our unconfined nature, our spiritual life, and that which is fully awake to blessings and ready always for gratitude and joy!

“As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.” (Psalms 18: 30)

Our protection is God’s faithful word. His goodness and love, His presence behind us and before us, has kept us shielded forever from harm, from trouble, from accusation. God knows us and He knows the way in which He takes us. He knows the road we traveled and the road we go forth on today. He has set all things down in a perfect way, and He will never allow us to stray into danger, out of Life, Truth and Love.

We can rest in His awareness, His conscious conscientiousness, His guard of our goodness and our lives. That buckler, that shield, remains always ours to hide behind, as well as to fight with. The Truth deflects the arrows of error. We remain secure, for God is secure and we are never separate from His care, from His presence, from His Mind and Life. We are safe.

Let’s trust that tender Father-Mother-Guardian to keep us perfect, innocent, and always on the right path. He has our backs, our fronts, our everything! We are never alone fighting an enemy nor wrestling with the fear of one. Divine Love, forever faithful, is with us, embracing, defending, and uplifting us to the realization of our present and eternal victory!

“Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” (John 20: 29)

Thomas needed to see materially in order to believe the truth of Jesus’s divine sonship and of life spiritual and immortal. He was not a bad apostle because of his doubting and questioning, but Jesus did admonish him in a way for believing that only the senses could report to him reality.

Jesus understood that believing spiritual sense rather than and even in spite of the material senses and their presentations, was a blessing. He saw those apostles and other followers who could simply honor the Truth because it spoke in their hearts and then stay with that in praise and gratitude, were gaining the greater good for it. Their spiritual perception, their soul-senses giving them the assurance and inspiration, was a blessing without measure or condition, and it set them free.

Let us show the doubting Thomas in ourselves and in others some mercy as they continue to ask for active evidence of heaven in body and in life. This doubt itself can lead to answers to that essential and eventual clarity. But let us also seek to quell that need to have material proofs of what matter has no capacity to prove—Truth, Life, and Love. We have not seen Jesus in the flesh, and yet we know he gave us the supreme demonstration of life everlasting. So, simply believe, and be blessed.

Daily Inspiration, July 7th

“To the burdened and weary, Jesus saith: ‘Come unto me.’ O glorious hope! there remaineth a rest for the righteous, a rest in Christ, a peace in Love. The thought of it stills complaint; the heaving surf of life’s troubled sea foams itself away, and underneath is a deep-settled calm.” (Message for 1902, by Mary Baker Eddy p. 19)

The thrashing waves of sense are ready for a calming. The burdens that seem to weigh us down are ready to be lifted, and our peace revealed. That true serenity is always ours to know, and, in fact, it is always our true state of being. We can claim that sweet gentleness within, and know that we need seek no farther for it than our own heart of hearts. Even the thought of it settles us.

We do have our rest at hand, our comfortable steadiness and safety readily available. This irresistible Christ is within us, naturally and necessarily calming fear and showing us our security. Seek and find that calm that is deep-settled, that endures within us even when the senses and human fears want to rile us and wrestle us down. We have that pure peace, it is always ours and we can recognize and claim it in spite of the lies of mortal mind, because we know the Christ-promise is true.

And knowing that our God is indeed All and always with us, we discover our hope. And our hope is glorious, uplifting us to the true consciousness, that real perception of heaven here and now, peaceful and powerful in its peacefulness. The sweet voice within that says “all is well” can be heard and accepted. All is well. Christ tells the Truth, and all the raging, foaming, fury of material sense must obey, be still, and we must have our righteous rest in Love.

“I the Lord do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.” (Isaiah 27:3)

The Lord is our Caretaker. God is our efficient and ever-present guardian and His care for us is without lapse or deficiency. He watches His own ideas. His Mind holds each thought dear and encourages its expression forth into bloom. God, Soul, is the constant Gardener, that one Who knows well each of His seeds and blossoms, for He has caused each one, with intention and love.

We are never left to fend for ourselves. We are guarded by the Almighty Truth, kept safe from that which would try to discourage us or cause us to feel overwhelmed. He is always watering us, giving us the substance of His ideas and the evidence that those ideas are present and powerful. God’s hand is upon each of us, caressing and settling, calming and assuring. He never leaves His watch, and His vigil is full of concentrated devotion. We are safe.

Nothing can harm us in this garden of God’s planting and cultivating. We can be active in our days and yet never out of the safe confines of His infinite garden of beauty and abundance. We can rest in our nights, when the darkness falls literally or figuratively, and know that during those times the growth continues, and the Caretaker watches, protects, and smiles with us at the new loveliness that dawn will reveal.

Daily Inspiration, June 30th

“And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”  (Isaiah 25:9)

Be firm and faithful to God’s promise. Even when we seem to be waiting for Him, for the pure evidence of His goodness and power, we can be grateful and glad that in truth, we already have it all. We can stand expectant of the awareness of His blessing, our salvation from the belief that we can ever for an instant be separate from His grace.

Every moment gives us plenty to lean on, to rejoice in, and to grow from. We have right now the ability to rest in His Love and to remain the child of His care. We can wait and know that our full triumph is at hand, for Truth does not lie and its promise is harmony, perpetual goodness, peace and understanding. Our wait is accompanied by occasions for patience, for purification, for surrender to the Almighty and the magnitude of His Love and the necessity of His purpose.

Quiet the human will’s rushing and wait with that sweet expectancy that comes of knowing that we are at home already, and that the gifts of tomorrow’s new day will reveal that which is suitable, timely, and right. We can wait on, rest in, rely on, that Love that loves us every moment and with fullness, and begin the victory song!
