“The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.” (Psalms 25: 9)

God’s guidance is flawless and available. His instruction is natural to understand and to utilize in our lives. His wisdom is wonderful, precise, healing, saving, complete. We will find no better information or method of discernment than yielding to the perfect word of God’s loving, individual direction.

Meekness is much needed. Without it, we can’t clearly hear what is right and pure and good for us and for all. Pride and human will would attempt to overtake our natural meekness, our humble willingness to hear the good news that the mortal mind might dispute or what mere human intelligence would argue against.

To be meek is not only to be humble, but it is also to be gentle. It is to be patient and sweet-tempered. This does not mean that we are spineless or weak or victims. It means, on the contrary, that we gather our strength from God’s presence and power; that we are quiet enough in thought and word that we can hear the better way, the nobler one, and that ideal which is most healing for all. Give up the push to be pushy, strong-willed, and self-righteous, and embrace the power of meekness. With it, your innate beauty will shine forth and your life will mirror that in its true loveliness, contentment, and grace.

“Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart:” (Leviticus 19: 17)

This verse is a deeper approach to the Ten Commandments. The directive here takes those commandments beyond mere behavior and into the intention in the heart. It is not enough that we do not strike out against another with the purpose of causing them harm or attempting to extract revenge. It is not even enough to be silent about our dislike of another individual, another race, another group of people with views unlike our own.

We shall not, must not hate within. We mustn’t harbor anything other than love for each other. This is the law. This is the commandment that Moses announced and Jesus further defined. We must love one another. No exceptions. And we must do it in our hearts, within the deepest part of ourselves.

This is not always easy and it certainly can’t be forced, for love is nothing if it is not genuine, sincere. But God’s laws are kind and achievable. He has given us the innate ability to love Him, to love good, and by doing so, to naturally love all that He has made—our fellow brothers and sisters, the true ideas that He created out of His own Love. We needn’t approve of everything that we see acted out by men, but we must see past that false identity, that distraction from that one’s true sweet nature, and obey the mandate to Love.

This is not a call to give without receiving, to martyr ourselves while a wrongdoer gets off the hook. It is a demand that we do what we do best and what ultimately will make us feel right—healthy, happy, clean, good, at peace. Love is the only way to this contentment. Listen to God’s direction, and seek diligently to be free of any hate in your heart. Each occasion to do this will open the gates of heaven for you as only Love can do.

“The cement of a higher humanity will unite all interests in the one divinity.” (Science and Health, page 571)

We are all together in this. As we recognize those binding properties of our higher and better selves, we have the power of unity with which to accomplish great things. Our higher humanity—our compassion, our morality, our integrity, our devotion to good without judgment of others—unites us to God’s purpose and that is true strength.

We must realize that this loving perspective and the action which naturally results is the truest nature of man. It is that deepest intention within us all, and when appealed to, it will rise to the occasion. Let’s recognize and love that it is God, good, Love, that is the cement that holds us together, as children of one Cause and inseparable from it. We simply can’t be in conflict, for our hearts are one in Truth.

Thus all interests are satisfied. Competition, disagreement, warring viewpoints and warring peoples, simply can’t exist within the one divinity. God is One, and His ideas are one, united in His ideal, His divine law of loving Life. We are bound together because we are all God’s children, born of His perfect Mind, conceived out of His flawless heart, built of His substance–His active, all-embracing Love.

“You were making splendid progress; who put you off the course you had set for the truth? That sort of ‘persuasion’ does not come from the one who is calling you.” (Galatians 5: 7-8, JB Phillips translation)

Don’t be so quick to give up. Don’t jump off the train just when you are getting somewhere. Material circumstances and personal sense will try to make this journey a difficult one, perhaps not worth the effort, or paint this spiritual pursuit as some aspiration we are simply not good enough to achieve.

Hogwash. Progress is God’s law and just because you may be challenged on the way doesn’t mean you aren’t winning, advancing, growing and doing tremendous good for others and yourself along the way. Liken it to taking a class. As we achieve mastery of the subject, the assignments may become more difficult. It is because we now have the knowledge, wisdom, and experience with the ideas to be able to take on these harder lessons and get even clearer on what we know and why it matters so much.

Those voices of discouragement and apathy and doubt are not the voice of God. They are not valid advisors. Who has put you off course? It is the mortal mind and its desire to stay complacent in matter and its limits rather than to continue to advance out of those limits and into Soul’s infinite promise for Life. God is always calling you forward, onward, and He always will. Listen. You are making splendid progress, and you are ready for the next step, with God, up to where the view is even broader, clearer, brighter, and more beautiful than before.

“He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.” (Psalms 101: 7)

While it may be wise to take this statement literally and steer clear of those who are not of the best character or who have malicious intentions, this stance goes further. We must guard against the entry of the lying thought, that which defies the word of God and lures us into its deceit. We must begin to recognize this thief when he enters our house, our consciousness.

Have you gotten caught up in a story of your life that seems only to snowball as you think of it, until your sleeping hours are as busy with it as your days are? The small lie, that accusation against your goodness, your safety, your peace, needs to be rejected and all its companions along with it. One lie tends to bring a bunch of friends to companion it, making it seem even more powerful and difficult to expel.

But that lying thought, that worrying, ruminating, self-defensive, self-condemning thinking, should not tarry with us. We don’t need to give it even a moment of our time or attention. Making that wrong idea comfortable for a time will never do us any good. It doesn’t need even a short visit with us. The lies, the accusations against our innocence and our love, won’t ever be helpful. They will only make our house dirty and even more vulnerable to intruders. Keep your consciousness focused on what is good and true and there will be no entry point for liars and no tolerance for lies.

Daily Inspiration, January 17th

“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6: 22-23)

Our eye is our perspective. It indicates our vantage point, our vision, our focus. To have a divided focus, is to really have no focus at all. We can’t claim the fullness of our aspiration if we are not single-minded about this. This is not a matter of willful devotion to a human ideal or action or a human sense of achievement. It is about making God that “single” Mind, for He is that One Mind that is faithful and good.

This devotion to God’s purpose, setting our sights on what is true and right and good according to His daily declarations to us, is staying single-minded, devoted to a Mind that is light and that will always enlighten, brighten, uplift, and guide us. This dedication to God as Cause and reason will fill our bodies with light—with effortless health, buoyancy, freedom.

Conversely, if our thought is divided, worshipping matter as much as God, or giving the mortal mind and its sob stories an equal or greater part of our attention, we will not feel that lightness that is ours naturally. Our eye, focused on the dark and dreary, has rejected the Christ-light that is extended to us for our healing use. We have agreed to a mind divided from God, which having not the ring of Truth, has no power behind it for demonstration.

Surrender the entireness of your thought to God and His loving design. Take this moment to feel the light of Him alone. Don’t let that divided sense of a personal self, cast a shadow on your glory. Let your eyes sparkle with the inner acceptance of God’s unconditional and powerful Love.

Daily Inspiration, January 15th

“For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.” (Psalms 107: 9)

Does it sometimes feel as if we are always longing for something—health, money, love, achievement, understanding? Does it seem as if our striving never ends? When one ideal is revealed and claimed, another one still seems to gnaw at us, like a hungry stomach in need of sustenance.

That longing, that hunger for goodness, peace, joy, is satisfied by God. Looking to any other source will never achieve lasting contentment. That burning within us to feel better, know more, be more at peace with ourselves and others is met and filled by divine Love. This Love has always been with us, and has always been caring for us, filling us with ideas and inspiration and new awareness. God’s nourishment, accepted without reservation, will always be enough to keep us well, comfortable, and comforted.

We must open our yearning hearts to God’s grace. We must be willing to give up our human expectations of life, and let God show us His grander plan, His ideal ideas made manifest. This satisfaction goes deeper. It is about feeling loved and lovable, and knowing that this is steady and certain and deserved. It is about accepting that we are worthy right now to be happy and well, and so we can be. The answer isn’t out there in the future or back in the past. It is right where you are, tenderly revealing that your life is in God, Love, so it is already harmonious, full, complete, peaceful, and forever satisfied.

“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.” (Proverbs 16:3)

Are you feeling confused? Is there a level of uncertainty about what you need to be doing, or what the future holds? Are you thoughts running rampant with worries or concerns about what you are doing or what is next? Is there an inner dialogue that doesn’t want to shut itself off?

There is an answer. Commit thy works unto the Lord. Consciously dedicate yourself to God, good. Give up the human sense of control over your life and its circumstances, its health, its success. Make a commitment to God, to Truth, to Love. Decide to devote yourself to what feels true and right and which is, most often, amazingly sweet and simple. Do this and you will be set free.

Our dedication to God and His purpose, set not only our experiences in good hands, but actually establishes our thoughts, gives them focus and clarity and wisdom. When we choose God as our Mind, our Life, then our thoughts and being must be obedient to that high standard, that one which is always precise, reasonable, and natural to us. Calm the thought by committing it, devoting it, giving it to God, where all things are harmonious, comfortable, comforting, and full of God’s powerful grace.

Daily Inspiration, January 8th

“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. “ (I Peter 4: 10)

This is what it means to be a true servant of God. It is because of the abundant love and grace and understanding we have received ourselves, that we are not only able to give to others, but that we also have the genuine desire to do so. If we are truly recognizing what divine Love is about—its power, presence, and purpose—we will not hesitate to share this blessing freely.

The mortal mind would try to lure us away from this natural intention, by telling us that we are too poor to be generous, too weak to carry another, too ignorant to be helpful. These lame excuses are pure lies about you and your calling. To focus too much on self and our own needs alone is not only selfish. It lacks healing power. We simply won’t be our most happy and healthy selves until we lose sight of that personal sense, that focus on self, and begin our true stewardship.

This is God’s intention for us. Being a caretaker in His vineyard is not a hardship. It is utilizing a Love that by its use grows, flourishes, and blesses us and all, and it is completely natural to us. Our ministering is not a personal sacrifice. It is gratitude in action.

Daily Inspiration, January 3rd

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4: 23)

Diligence is persistent effort and constancy of purpose. This active devotion to a cause or goal should be focused on what is really important, vital in fact, to our lives. We must with awareness keep a guard on our hearts, on the thoughts and intentions that undergird our actions and experiences.

If we keep a faithful watch over our thinking we are protecting our very lives. For our thought is where danger would attempt to turn us from Truth, from God. This defense also applies to our hearts—our intentions, our motives and aspirations. We must, without fear or guilt, look within and determine where our ideas and practices are coming from. What do we seek and for what intent do we seek it? Being honest in this, we can cultivate higher ideals, those which will also naturally most bless us.

Looking outside of ourselves for protection, living in fear of others and their behavior towards us or thoughts of us, will never get to the heart of the matter. The “issues of [your] life” are not resolved by others, and they are not damaged by others’ behavior. Your own thoughts and purposes determine your attitude, your expectations, and their fulfillment in experience. Let your heart know and keep guard on Truth and Love, as cause and means, and you will be safe, happy, and free.
