Daily Inspiration, November 12th

“By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.” (Proverbs 22: 4)

We don’t get wealthy by arrogance, pride, and personal ego. The true riches, those things that constitute our heaven here and now, do not come and cannot remain through such selfish and material motives. It is only by our devotion to God as the divine Providence, the real substance and activity of good, that we can claim and feel true peace, the prosperity of wholeness.

We must discover our inherent humility. We must release ourselves to this natural desire to give up self for the abundance of Soul, to trust God and His loving intention. We must be happy to be children–not petulant kids or bullies–but those sweet and lovable children that a parent can’t help but spoil with attention and loving gifts. God created us as these innocent ones and this is really our true and only being.

How do we accept this sense of being, give up the feeling that we must fight for good or prove ourselves through human endeavor? By Love. As we realize that we are fully loved by God, by the One who saw fit to make us and never mistakes, we can give up that sense of desperate need, and relax into our childlike expectation and fearless joy.

Humility is riches. It sets and settles us in awareness of God’s grace, whereby we have all things wonderful, right, and satisfying.

“And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” (Mark 12: 33)

In Jesus’s day, burnt offerings were a way to receive heaven’s promises, an expression of faith, and an indication of purity and goodness. It was an aspect of worship and respect for the Almighty. Today, we may not be burning animals as a sign of devotion and a promise of God’s approval, but we have still carried this notion of sacrifice into the modern age.

We may find ourselves feeling we must give up all that we love, things that we feel are necessary for a good life, or a sense of true freedom and joy in order to be devoted to God and His intention. We sometimes feel that poverty and deprivation, constant toil and suffering, are needed in order to be pure and beloved.

But Jesus clearly said that the necessary thing had nothing to do with giving up a happy and active life or our dignity or the things that are honestly dear to us. We simply have to sacrifice anything that does not express love toward another or toward God and His ideal, goodness and Truth. This is the way of salvation and the sacrifice required is not a ritual, but comes through individualized prayer and new understanding.

Jesus, who so well knew his Father-Mother, admonished us that our sacrifice was relinquishing a belief that something good must die in order for us to live. Instead, it was about going forth in the true sense of Life, that which is loving, from the heart, because we know that our God is not punishing and demanding, but is the very substance and activity of perfect Love.

“The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.” (Psalms 145: 9)

Be calm and grateful. Breathe a sigh of relief and take a pause for reflection. God is goodness itself. He has no evil in Him and He is the very creator of your being, your substance, your life. God’s nature makes no exceptions. He is fully and always perfect good, absolute Love.

All of us are subject to God’s government, to His control and His law. This does not leave us in danger or subject to chance. We are all governed by tender mercy, God’s own necessary care for His adored ideas. Divine Mind never made an unlovable idea or one that was not acceptable to Him. Perfect Mind doesn’t make mistakes. He can’t conceive of an idea that is not worthy of His name, not capable of testifying to His glory.

No one is out of reach of His mercy, too far gone in materiality or fear or ignorance. His Love spans all that He made and mercy is a necessary aspect of Love. His loving care is just and true. It exposes and removes the faulty beliefs and makes a place for the tender caress to be fully felt, acknowledged, and accepted. We can be free of pity for ourselves and others knowing the depth and measure and flawless activity of God’s mercy toward all. We are all blessed to be who we are—sons and daughters of divine Love.

Daily Inspiration, October 31st

“The age has not wholly outlived the sense of ghostly beliefs. It still holds them more or less. Time has not yet reached eternity, immortality, complete reality.” (Science and Health, page 353)

The enlightened thinker can’t keep on believing in “ghosts”– in unreal specters that project fear and deathly beliefs upon the innocent. Mrs. Eddy’s marginal heading for this paragraph is “superstition obsolete.” She saw that one couldn’t continue to cling to those superstitions, those expectations and fears based on ominous and unreasonable notions about life.

This thinking is obsolete. It is no longer useful or relevant to us. And yet, it seems that we sometimes still hold to such ghoulish beliefs and we may not even be aware of it. Claiming the reality of Life as under God’s control, secure and safe, harmonious and loving, we can break those superstitions and the fear that they engender and perpetuate in the way we live.

It’s not just about black cats and haunted houses. The superstitions of today are more subtle and because of that may be more dangerous. We need to turn the light on to them, and agree to believe only that which comes from a point of reason, from the Mind that is Love. The idea of bad luck, chance, and accident are superstitious. The expectation that there has to be a down side to every up side is a superstition. A fascination with evil and its workings is a devious belief that needs to be seen for its deception.

Complete reality may not be fully realized, but that’s no excuse for lingering with the unreal and perpetuating a long night full of scary ghost stories. We are awake to the hoax. We have the Christ to break that mesmerism and show us that a trust in God, good, Love, keeps us safe from trouble. This is a light to every shadow and gives us fearless fun in every new day!

Daily Inspiration, October 29th

“…Well done, good and faithful servant. Thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” (Matthew 25: 23)

There are a few things necessary for our joy, for that true happiness that can only be found in God, in infinite Spirit and Truth. We must be faithful to those things in order to take hold of our dominion over the earth, our sense of natural peace and abundant life.

God requires that we recognize Him and utilize the understanding, the gifts that He has given us. If we waste the blessings and take them for granted, we aren’t learning a thing about divine Love and so we are not able to actively live out Her promises. Our faithfulness is not a sacrifice. It is about living life and not squandering it. It is about a daily awareness of and commitment to God’s loving guidance for our lives and how they can truly bless others.

Selfishness as well as a lack of trust in one’s own ability is not faithfulness. God is daily feeding us with sufficient goodness and inspiration and enough to spread it around. Our faithfulness to God is our trust that what He says is true—we are His beloved and we are blessed beyond measure. To deny this and live in doubt of ourselves or competition with others is not being faithful, and it makes for meager, joyless living.

Be the faithful servant to goodness, to love, to the Truth of your own heritage. Sing forth your love in all that you do, and joy will welcome you every morning into its full embrace and sing you to sleep at night.

Daily Inspiration, October 24th

“Nothing is new to Spirit. Nothing can be novel to eternal Mind, the author of all things, who from all eternity knoweth His own ideas.” (Science and Health, page 519)

Our Father-Mother-Mind has completed all His ideas. He is intimately and fully aware of every aspect of His creation. Nothing is unknown to Him and everything in Truth meets with His high standards of excellence, harmony, goodness, and love.

The Author of all Life knows how the story turns out. He’s already conceived of all so each day that we experience is the unfolding of another blossom in His fully formed bloom. God’s vision is clear and complete. His design is without flaw and nothing surprises Him or throws Him off. He is in full awareness of all that is right and necessary, and He is able to reveal each right step, each perfect day, in a way that is most pleasing, right, timely, and good.

God knows you well and He knows His plan for you. Relax, and trust His revelation. You are not the burdened creator of a new project, a productive day, a child, or a life. God has already made all, and He is able to reveal and express this all in its perfect order for His own children.

Stay expectant and grateful. Your job is to bear witness to God’s goodness, not to personally build it or will it into life. Love the fact that while you may not know the beginning and the ending of a right endeavor, it is already complete in God’s Mind, every detail crafted to bless. His work is perfectly, efficiently done and the outcome we await may surprise us, but it will always be just right.

Daily Inspiration, October 22nd

“…as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we all should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6: 4)

Jesus’s resurrection was proof of everlasting Life, a demonstration of God’s glorious power and love for man. It confirms for all of us that not only are we God’s immortal ideas, we are meant to be made new with this understanding every day. We can demonstrate a resurrected state of thought in each moment, and live the freshness that is ours to celebrate.

As Paul tells us in this verse, Christ was raised from the dead by the Father and His glory. So we can recognize that our own renewing is not by human action and accomplishment either, but by the glory of God. It comes to us naturally through the fact of our own Christly nature as the reflection of God’s own being, His conscious and perpetual living. We can recognize who we really are, just as Jesus did, and go forward in this knowledge.

Knowing that we are always at one with God, perfect Life, we can experience a life that feels full and new.
Let’s not hesitate to walk in this resurrected consciousness. It is never too soon and it is never too late. Every day demands a renewed outlook, a fresh awareness of Life and goodness. Each hour beckons us into a grateful acceptance that this refreshing is God’s requirement for us; it is just as divinely natural for us to rise up and feel brand new, as it was for Jesus to emerge from death’s tomb into the full demonstration of glorious Life!

Daily Inspiration, October 17th

“God has countless ideas, and they all have one Principle and parentage.” (Science and Health, page 517)

Our One Principle is divine Love, the Truth that sets us free. This is our Parent, our Father and Mother, and so that makes all of us brothers and sisters. God’s ideas are countless and diverse. They all naturally express His nature and character, as a child would be the image of his parent.

There are no adopted children, no black sheep, no step kids. All belong to God legitimately and without question. God is wonderfully made evident in His children, in the way in which they carry on His intention and declare the true heritage of good through their being and in their lives. This perfect Principle which gave birth to us all is divine Love. Our Parent is Mind and makes no mistakes. All were born of a loving union of right ideas, and She is greatly pleased with each one of us.

Let’s own up to our family connections. They will get us everywhere! And they also leave no one out. Our Father-Mother does not play favorites and has enough goodness for all. He is equally loving and giving to each one of His own ideas, because each idea is such a perfect proof of Himself, of that very true Love that is rich in beauty, intelligence, gentleness, strength, goodness, and vital, wonderful Life!

Daily Inspiration, October 15th

“…now is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than we believed.” (Romans 13: 11)

It’s that time. No more sluggishness. No more putting off spiritual awareness to linger in matter, the familiar but unsatisfying dream. What are we waiting for? Is there a better day than today to fully and enthusiastically accept our salvation, the saving recognition that we are the children of God, spiritual and good? Get up and do it!

Let’s approach today like a child on Christmas morning. Let’s come into it with a spirit of excitement and expectation, a willingness to accept the gifts of goodness and love that are brought into our presence, especially for us. Let’s set aside pre-conceived adult notions that we must be perfect humans in order to be divine ideas and to receive the blessings that come with that identity. Let’s not insult our Father-Mother by denying Him the opportunity to Love us with unconditional goodness and grace.

Salvation is at hand for God is at hand, but He is not found by pondering matter and material circumstances. He can’t be realized through physicality, physiology, or in other people or events. He is bigger than that and also more intimately right, true, and loyal in His active presence and Love.

You are His treasured child. Wake up and see yourself as He sees you. Accept the sacred, saving consciousness that you are an immortal idea of the everlasting Father-Mother-Love. Now is the time and right here is the place to claim and express your full and fruitful and lovable Life, without reservation, without hesitation, and with a grateful celebration!

“…the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14: 26)

Jesus reminded the world of the Truth within each of us. He came demonstrating our sweet and certain relationship with God, our status and joy as children of our Father-Mother-Love. We heard the good news from Jesus and it has echoed through the ages because of its enduring Truth, forever alive and active.

The great Truth-teller is no longer walking among men, but the Holy Ghost is here every day to remind us of what Jesus taught and proved. This is our faithful reminder, an ever-present Principle at hand and always actively awakening us to our identity and the reality of heaven at hand. This Holy Ghost is divine Science, that which touches the human thought with the healing Truth.

This is the eternal Comforter, a teacher and a counselor. This Christ-Truth is never absent, and its purpose is to remind us what is right and true. The Holy Ghost is not an ethereal being without substance. It is God’s Word reaching and convincing human minds and hearts with the Truth of man’s oneness with God, through the activity of perfect Love.

This Comforter was foretold by Jesus, for he knew its presence. It endures forever as the tender Truth of our everlasting Life, of goodness that has no boundary and no end, always present and with a purpose to save and to heal.
