“As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being.” (Science and Health, page 361)

An idea cannot be separated from the mind that knows it. It is naturally within that consciousness and caused by it, formed of that mind’s own quality and at one with its purpose. Our divine Mind, God, has each of us in His perfect and purposeful thoughts, forever one with Him and His divine intention—Life and Love.

We are more than simply close to God. We are like a drop of water in the ocean that is His infinite being. We are not lost there, but are forever and now at one with the whole sea of His goodness and formed out of the very substance that is His own nature–Spirit, divine Life, perfection, peace, power, serenity, poise, purity. We have an intimate and immediate relationship with infinite Love.

We are one in being with God, the very expression of His nature and quality and potency. We are the very radiance that declares His light; never separate from this sun but distinctly shining, with purpose, with integrity, both the object and expression of the great Life-giving, Life- maintaining Truth of creation. We are each individually and collectively the natural emanation of goodness, of energy, of vitality.

As we glow and flow we are never for an instant separate from the boundless Source, our perpetual Provider, that infinite Life which never fails to sufficiently, efficiently, perpetually hold us and love us.

Daily Inspiration, February 20th

“…There are times when I should pray with my spirit, and times when I should pray with my mind. Sometimes I should sing with my spirit, and at other times I should sing with my mind.” (I Corinthians 14: 15, Contemporary English Version)

There is no formula for prayer. The only stipulation is that we do it! The way in which we find our peace, honor and acknowledge and worship God, and glean healing inspiration, takes on different forms. And the wonderful thing is we know exactly when to do what and how to carry it out. Yes, we do! Why? Because the voice of God Himself leads us to Him, directs us in how best to celebrate His presence and claim the benefits.

We will find at times that we are led to argue for our innocence, our joy, our freedom. We feel compelled to seek out mentally, through conscious listening and receptivity, the word of Truth which would reveal God, good, in this moment for us and for others. We feel that there is a human ignorance that just must be filled with divine intelligence, God’s honest and energizing Word about our lives. This impulse to understand guides our prayer.

At other times, it is our heart that leads us. It may be an inner call to gratitude and praise, to a singing forth of God through the light of our lives and the eloquence of our poetic souls. It may seem at these times that the human mind, in fact, must stay out of the question altogether; that it must be still and simply receive and feel the loving goodness that God is constantly bestowing. Thus we sing with our spirits, without needing to know every detail of why we sing or how we do it, but only to let ourselves be at one with His song.

Whether we pray with mind (through honest seeking of Truth) or with our spirit (through a release of thinking to God’s presence), we can know that this activity is right and good because omnipotent Love has guided us to this perfect song and guarantees that it will be glorious, in tune, harmonious, beautiful, powerful, and healing!

“And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 10: 7)

Our lives should be publishing the good news. As we come to know that the kingdom of heaven–God’s own harmonious state of being–is ours here and now, we must not keep that truth to ourselves. Nor should we think of this statement by Jesus as one that is merely theoretical, one we may love thinking of and wishing for, but which we leave out of our daily lives.

As ye go. As you walk forward through your days, consciously awaken to this Truth as the very substance of life, your life, and therefore everyone else’s as well. Declare this heavenly presence by your love of it, by living in acknowledgment that the good Life is here and it has nothing to do with an afterlife, a heaven set apart from our human grasp and from our capacity to understand.

I don’t think Jesus wanted our preaching to be, well, preachy! What I think he meant was that we feel and know this kingdom of heaven, claim it moment by moment, and that we not allow the earthly, limiting beliefs to keep us from sharing our understanding, our joy. By doing so, we share the precious Truth of God right here and now; we declare and express the glory of that loving kingdom in which we always and already dwell.

Daily Inspiration, February 14th

“Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals.” (Science and Health, page 13)

Divine Love has got you covered, encircled, provided for, nurtured, understood. This Love does not desert you, elude you, deny you the best, or require you to be anything more than who you are. You are dearly, sincerely, clearly loved by God, divine Love, and this is a forever fact for you and for all.

Let’s not narrow our sense of love and so miss its fullness. Love is impartial. It doesn’t play favorites. It is that infinite idea that is always right where we are, within us, around us, and always for us. This Love may instruct us out of our fears and false beliefs, but it does not punish us or leave us without understanding or comfort. Our True Love is true, faithful, and expressive.

Love is universal. It reaches the bounds of the earth and encompasses it. Each idea within its embrace is tenderly cared for, individually adored, conscientiously seen and guided. Divine Love does not give without specificity. Its adaptations are built for each of us, to show us just why we are special and just what is right for our real happiness. This love bestows more than candy, flowers, and kisses. Divine Love bestows peace, lasting joy, thorough comfort, and a life that only wants to reflect that love all around.

Rejoice in Love every day, for this perfect Love is with you every day, as the One Who loved you first, always, forever, today!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Daily Inspiration, February 11th

“And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” (II Kings 6: 15-16)

Are you feeling surrounded? Are you like the servant here, so focused on all the obstacles and limits, on the feeling of overwhelm in the middle of life, that you have no idea what to do? Are you feeling afraid you are trapped?

While the mass army of worries and impediments that would surround us and impede our way may seem real and daunting, we have a recourse, an escape, a victory. We can open our eyes to the reality of the good that is always on our side, the fullness of God’s protecting and advancing power. The horses and chariots of fear are easily vanquished when we see through their ability to corner us. God’s purpose for us is not conquered or even delayed by our worries. The infinite army of Love’s angels has already won as omnipotence must always do, and we can rely on this.

As we stayed focused like Elisha’s servant on the troubles that seem to be many and looming large, we can’t see the salvation which is always so much bigger, more real, and ours to freely claim. The angel ideas, the guidance, the peace, the certainty and authority, is right here with us and fears are no match for this heavenly host. Our doubts disappear when we look away from them and toward the invincible, supreme, saving forces of our faithful Principle, Love. You are not cornered by evil, but embraced on all sides by the powerful presence of good! Fear not!

Daily Inspiration, February 6th

“It is true that no human being has ever had a direct vision of God. Yet if we love each other God does actually live within us, and his love grows in us towards perfection. And, as I wrote above, the guarantee of our living in him and his living in us is the share of his own Spirit which he gives us.” (I John 4: 12-13, JB Phillips New Testament)

What is our proof of God? How do we know that he is present and that we are made in His image and likeness? How do we gain a sense of the tangible presence of God enough to trust that He is here with us, His power preserving us?

It is by love. The love that we share with others is the expression of His activity. God is Love, so love felt and expressed is the evidence that He is present and active. God is Love and He is also Life. These two qualities are inseparable. We can’t have one without the other. As we love with the pure love of God, receive of His love and put it into practice, so do we truly live. Our lives expand to their full size and scope and satisfaction—the unconfined life that is not mere human existence but divine, infinite freedom and goodness and joy.

This sharing of “his own Spirit” which is freely given to us is our own necessary growth in grace. As we use this Spirit of love that He has never denied to us for a moment, we find not only peace, but we find ourselves. As we attempt to utilize anything less than love, our lives feel stagnant, confused, unsatisfying. When we refuse or qualify the life-giving properties of divine Love, we push away our most natural and good life for one that is not ours at all, that does not suit us. Our Father has seen fit to equip and embrace us with infinite love for our own good and the good of others!

Let’s receive and give the love of Love freely and confidently. Let’s bear witness gladly to God’s own loving nature and find our own lovely and lovable life in the process!

Daily Inspiration, February 4th

“There is to-day danger of repeating the offence of the Jews by limiting the Holy One of Israel and asking: ‘Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?’ What cannot God do?” (Science and Health, page 135)

God is infinite and all-powerful. He has the ability to do all things and there is nothing that is too hard for Him to carry out. He is also infinite Love, pure goodness, and perfect wisdom. Everything that God would do, He can do. And everything that He would do is good, loving, and right.

Let’s not limit God. Let’s not let our eyes and thoughts stay so focused on the “why nots” that physical senses would present to us. Material obstructions and restrictions and limitations are no match for infinite Spirit, the Life that is All and eternal and ours. God doesn’t back down or get discouraged by a presentation calling itself human circumstances or even material laws. He is the Law itself and He is not concerned. He knows what He can do and we should know it, too.

We must honor God with our trust and not darken that with doubts. God can furnish a table in the wilderness, can provide us with sustenance and ideas and inspirations in the midst of what seem to be our darkest hours, our deepest need. And His table is not merely a place with a few crumbs upon it. His table is a sumptuous spread of beauty and goodness, filling and fulfilling, satisfying and entirely natural for divine Love’s infinite grace to provide.

Daily Inspiration, January 30th

“Let us rid ourselves of the belief that man is separated from God, and obey only the divine Principle, Life and Love. Here is the great point of departure for all true spiritual growth.” (Science and Health, page 91)

If we are going to make lift off, we have to get on the right runway. We need to be at the necessary point of departure, one that is smooth and clear, ready and solid, and aiming in the right direction. Getting off the ground of limits and leaving behind our fears requires that we know where we are, why we are safe, and Who is carrying us onward and upward.

Our growth spiritually–coming to own our true identity and to live it with its inherent freedom and joy–starts by knowing that we are not alone. We are not for a moment separate from God, with a will of our own to make us good or bad, take us down or up. We have to start from the standpoint of God alone. He is the Mind and the Life. He is the Principle that governs all things at all times. We never need to get to Him, and the glory of His Love. We are already and always there.

Obeying the divine Principle is that conscious and grateful yielding of the self that is separate (and a lie about us) to the Life and Love that is God, which we can’t ever be separate from, and is the grand Truth of our being. Starting from the Truth, we have our wings. Beginning with the awareness that we are in God, in good, in infinite Truth, and inseparable from it, makes our growth, our progress natural. It gives us the grounding on which to comfortably stand and off of which to steadily, safely, gloriously ascend heavenward, to real peace and satisfaction!

“Remember that man’s perfection is real and unimpeachable, whereas imperfection is blameworthy, unreal, and is not brought about by divine Love.” (Science and Health, page 414)

Your perfection is unimpeachable! Your sustained flawlessness is “above suspicion, impossible to discredit; impeccable.” Nothing and no one can challenge the truth about you or negate the reality of your perfection. Your wonderful nature is beyond reproach and without a single weakness to bring your life crashing down.

Remember this, Mrs. Eddy advises us in this passage. Keep this thought of your reflected perfection near in thought. Let it replace those voices that would argue for guilt, shame, flaws of character and of body. Divine Love neither creates mistakes and vulnerabilities nor does this Love allow them to continue to accuse innocence.
Your perfection is real. Do not forget this. It is not mere human perfection, so it can’t be subject to human qualification and conditions. It is a perfection that is divine, that is given to us by God, and is claimed not through forced behavior or punishment, but by humble acceptance.

We can replace a personal sense of self, always subject to analysis and review, and take hold of the Truth of ourselves–the lovely and happy idea that is settled in perfectness, God’s own unimpeachable Life shining forth as the flawless and saving light of His own pure Love.

Daily Inspiration, January 23rd

“Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way. Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action.” (Science and Health, page 454)

The rightest motive in any endeavor or thought is always love. Its rightness comes not only from its kindness, but from the very fact that Love truly is the only Cause; Love is the Truth itself, and it is Life. As we come from this ultimate premise of Love, from the demand of divine Love in each moment, we are in line with God and therefore, with reality and power.

It is wise to check your motive before you proceed in something and along the way as well. Is Love truly inspiring me and leading me? Is Love giving me the most comforting way, the one which is best for everyone, and which is compelling me and others toward more understanding, peace, and joy? Or, alternately, is something unloving motivating me? Is it fear, pride, revenge, ego, competitive ambition, or a drive to prove something not fully felt or understood?

Pause and listen for Love’s impelling. It is always there–the motive that causes Life to blossom as it should and Truth to have its day in our satisfied and satisfying activities. With Love as our purpose, we can’t fail to succeed, because in Truth the only intention that makes any sense and that has any power at all is always and only Love.
