Daily Inspiration, January 1st

“Do not remember the former things, Or ponder the things of the past. Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43: 18-19, Amplified Bible)

Let’s bid farewell to yesterday and start fresh into this New Year. Let’s give ourselves the permission to let go of what went before and to seize this fresh opportunity to realize and claim all the good that God is promising us.

It is tempting to reflect on the past, either with regret, pain, loss, or with a sort of wistfulness that the good old days, or our own personal best days, are behind us. God wants us to “listen carefully,” and to do so we have to be in this moment—attentive and ready. If we are looking over our shoulder we can’t walk forward naturally and comfortably, nor can we see the real new view of our lives ahead, unfurled generously and progressively for us to enter in.

We can’t judge what is to come based on yesterday. That limited sense is too small for our unlimited God, Who is ready to show us the way where we didn’t see it, the infinite possibilities that may have seemed to us before impossible. God’s nature is never stale or old or lost or declining. Everything about Him is new, fresh, invigorating, lively, and full of Love for His ideas—you and me.

Listen. Be ready. Now is the time and here is the place. Happy New Year!

Daily Inspiration, December 31st

“…don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others.” (II Peter 1: 5-7, Message Bible)

You’ve been given a treasure. Your very being is filled with all the pure and lovely qualities of life which sustain and satisfy you and that bless the world as well.

Don’t lose a minute in recognizing, claiming, nurturing, and cultivating these riches you have. God’s Truth has revealed you to be the very image of Him, of all that is right and good. Make the most of this great gift and fall in love with your own potential for excellence and happiness. This isn’t about human will or hypocritical positive thinking. It is about relishing the real and true in you, and letting it shine just as it was naturally meant to do.

So we can build on each good quality that we recognize within us. We can begin by trusting our higher motives to guide and protect us. We can know our faith in goodness must lead to purer lives and growth in grace. This humility must naturally open our hearts and minds to Life’s wise instruction, so that we gain understanding, alertness to what we are called to do, and a natural willingness to do it.

This beautiful qualities glimmer with power and with color. We are not only patient, but passionately so—full of earnest and genuine fervor for being still and listening for Life’s guiding voice. We are not only friendly, but really warm, sincere and full of sweetness and tender regard. We are generous with our love because we know its Source is abundant and its use multiplies the blessings for us and for all!

Daily Inspiration, December 29th

“The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;  The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).” (Numbers 6: 25-26, Amplified Bible, Classic edition)

What a wonderful gaze to receive! How inviting it is to look into the face of God and to see powerful kindness, wisdom, and love. God’s expressive countenance is the very substance and impulse for our lives. As He sees us, so are we seen and known. His vision of us, His focused awareness of who we really are, sustains our true being perpetually and perfectly.

Looking to other people or to the world or to material achievements to tell us who we are or how we are, can’t give us the true “tranquility of heart and life continually” that God’s face shining upon us can do. We can turn our own faces upward, like eager children, to receive this great smile of Love and to look into the eyes of understanding, compassion, approval.

Receive this rich blessing today. I know that you are worthy of it. Don’t wait to seek out divine Love’s face, that ready look of energizing, inspiring, uplifting, comforting affection. You will not find anger or disapproval in God’s view of you. You will find gentleness, wisdom, guidance, assurance, and this will give you your well-deserved and grateful peace.

Daily Inspiration, December 25th

“And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Luke 2: 12-14)

The birth of Jesus was a sign to those of old and to us today. A child born in humble surroundings announced the very birth of a new way of thinking and living. This little one’s arrival was cause for celebration of God’s own presence and His love, for Jesus would declare and prove the Truth of life, the real meaning of Christmas as the eternal day of God’s Love realized.

This birth ushered in a multitude of angels, and those angels would remain with Jesus and with us as well. These were the inspired thoughts singing forth reality, harmony, joy to the world. These angel inspirations are those healing ideas that Jesus proclaimed and demonstrated. They are focused on that vital Truth that he would repeatedly declare: God’s glory, goodness, ever-presence and all-power.

Jesus’s birth brought to humanity the great news that the Master would continue to share through his teaching and healing and living. This Christmas message is that God is One and All and that we are His children, the very expressions and recipients of His Love. Jesus’s holy birth declared a new birth, a new recognition for us all, that God’s heavenly glory is present on earth bringing peace and good will to each of us. This surely is a perfect cause for praise, giving, and celebration today and every day!

A joyous Christmas to you all!

Daily Inspiration, December 24th

“The wakeful shepherd beholds the first faint morning beams, ere cometh the full radiance of a risen day…The Wisemen were led to behold and to follow this daystar of divine Science, lighting the way to eternal harmony.” (Science and Health, page vii)

Christmas morning is on the horizon. The star of Truth led the wise men as well as those humble shepherds to behold and claim a new promise. But first, their hearts must have been awakened. They must have known that the yearning within them for a better way was about to find its peace.

We are all ready to have our hearts awakened as well. This eve is not merely the day before a holiday. It is the moment on the crest of a hill, as we know a new view is about to be ours. This is not a yearly event, but one that we can awake to at any hour and every day. What we need most is trust.

Listen to and honor that voice within you that says: “Come, there is more to see, to know, to be.” Behold that eternal shining star that is leading you gently to a new hope, a new realization of life as the very expression of God’s unfailing and powerful Love. That star doesn’t pick and choose its followers. We can all see it just as all can view the sun and moon, wherever we are.

The choice is ours. We can decide to willingly follow the faint glimmers of dawn—those inspirations that feel right and true—and to continue to watch until the whole sky of our life is alight with colors. This is Christmas arriving. It is heeding the expectation that lives within us.  It is the Christ-message—the healing, saving reality of heaven brought to a grateful earth.

Daily Inspiration, December 22nd

“Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.” (Job 37: 14)

What’s the rush? Material life and circumstances and mental pressure would seem to give us a sense that we must always keep on moving, either to get past yesterday or to rush toward tomorrow. We tend to believe that human thought and action is what gains us momentum and wins the day.

But a pause for precious reflection is a powerful thing to do. Stand still and take in God’s glorious presence. Recognize His loving control. Feel the freedom that comes of knowing that Life is in the hands of divine wisdom—timeless, impeccable, flawless, and full of pure Love. Give up the wrestling and give God a moment of focused, devoted contemplation.

And with that sweet release to stillness, we gain a much clearer perspective. We see the colors of reality, not the blur of material life and worry and fear and stress. We naturally feel a most healing thing—gratitude.

The wondrous works of God are worthy of our consideration. Goodness, life, love, beauty are at hand. Breathe in the Truth of this. You won’t miss your life. You will find it.

Daily Inspiration, December 17th

“Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy. Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine ‘powers that be.’” (Science and Health, page 249)

The divine “powers that be” are those governing laws of God that lovingly preserve, save, and bless mankind.  This supreme control is worth rejoicing over and releasing ourselves to, with calm trust and expectation of grace.

Physical energy can only take us so far. It can seem to rush along with enthusiasm and endurance and then just as quickly fade away. We may feel like we run until we are run down, relying on human will to push us forward, and sometimes failing to move at all. This weariness can seem beyond help. It may feel like it is our lot in life now or to come.

But the divine energy of Spirit is not daunted by these fears and limitations. This spiritual vitality comes from an inexhaustible Source and with a holy purpose—to perpetuate the Life that is God through His ideas. We can gratefully yield up that personal responsibility and let our bodies and minds lean into the constant and affectionate winds and wings of God’s power.

God is All and there is no resistance to His Spirit, His perfect and perpetual Life and its intention to be realized. You and I can feel this true energy, freely ours at all times. We can let go of the tight grip on the lies that bind us and allow the animating strength of Truth to revive us, uplift us, and energize us today and as we go forward into each new day.

Daily Inspiration, December 15th

“…set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.” (Colossians 3:2, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

The qualities of life that demand our contemplation and focus are spiritual. They are those right ideas of being that transcend material sense and are readily available no matter what may seem to be going on humanly. These higher things are holier, and yet they are forever present and available right where we are.

We must open our eyes to these perpetual verities of life and keep our gaze upon them. Abundance is not a quality of matter, but one of God, of Love’s plenty. We don’t gain heaven by focusing on earth. We don’t truly achieve that peace and plenty that is ours to enjoy by limiting it to what we can gain materially—money, power, prestige. These are ultimately unsatisfying, because they are not of God, not full in goodness and rightness and permanence.

Set your mind on God, true goodness, and you will see the gifts that are truly yours right here and now and always. Keep your minds set on these things—love, compassion, joy, peace, humility, kindness, satisfaction, selflessness, hope, understanding, and a willingness to live and love as God would have us do, and to feel the true richness in that.

These higher things are established in God and free to all. They supply us with everything that is truly needful and wonderful, worthy of knowing and feeling and accepting as our own, today and forever.

Daily Inspiration, December 10th

“My dear friends, as a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ, I beg you to get along with each other. Don’t take sides. Always try to agree in what you think.” (I Corinthians 1: 10)

If we are truly following Christ, we must necessarily have oneness of mind. Jesus taught and demonstrated unity, and that unity always being Love. We can’t be true believers and lay full claim to the power of Truth, if we do not seek to harmonize with one another.

This does not mean that one person’s opinion must be taken as law, and all others simply, tacitly, agree. What it does mean is that at the heart of all that we think and do, divine Love, God’s Word of Truth, remains our motive and our goal. As we align ourselves with God, not varying human opinions and ego, we naturally come into line with the Truth that is Love. We listen better and respond with more grace and goodness. We don’t look for battles, but seek peace in all things, and feel the rich rewards of doing so.

If we agree with God—agree as Jesus did that God was the one good, Mind, and Love—then we are in agreement with one another. Out of this Mind can flow forth only concord and not discord; unity rather than disagreement; peace rather than war.

We can do as Paul asked and be “dear friends” to one another, striving for harmony, unselfishness, kindness, and by doing so, sharing gratefully our natural abundance of joy.

Daily Inspiration, December 8th

“Only God gives inward peace, and I depend on him.” (Psalms 62: 5, Contemporary English Version)

We all naturally seek peace. We know that we function with more freedom and are able to think more clearly and act more wisely when we are peaceful. We can attempt to gain that serenity, that quiet confidence, in many human ways. We can seek another’s opinion to assure us or look for a situation to change in order to feel better.

But these assurances can be variable and conditional. The outward may change but the inward composure is not truly there, real, and lasting. God, divine Love, alone can give us this “inward peace.” This is our true reliance and He is faithful to us. God’s presence is peace, and He is everywhere, actively being and expressing goodness, comfort, Life, and Love.

Mentally step away from the mortal mind’s conversations and complications. Listen to God’s voice of what is real and true—the genuine condition of things as He caused them to be. Give up the need to seek peace through material means and people and circumstances. Your loving God is at the ready, deep within, revealing His presence in your heart and His wisdom in your thought. Receive the richness of peace without argument. It is yours freely, now and always.
