“Do not participate in the worthless and unproductive deeds of darkness, but instead expose them [by exemplifying personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character];” (Ephesians 5:11, Amplified Bible)

How can we face up to the darkness that we may see around us? By expressing the light that naturally exposes what is wrong and honors what is true and good.

We need to be alert that we don’t join in with those activities and thoughts that are unproductive, that don’t contribute to making our world a better place. It can feel easy to get lulled into either participating in or focusing on what is evil or lacks integrity and honesty. We may find that our response to anger and accusation and discord is to react and become angry ourselves, blaming others.

But this only adds to the miasma, keeping us in the fog together, unseeing and confused, more riled and less peaceful. Instead, let’s go higher. We can be what God made us to be, expressing His everlasting, ever available, and all-powerful qualities of morality, goodness, kindness, respect.

We can be the light which exposes the useless, powerless, witless deeds of darkness by dissolving them in the radiant power of Truth and Love.
