“I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]” (Philippians 4: 13, Amplified Bible)
This statement is so empowering! And yet it is also humbling. It is not by our human will that we make things happen and progress. It isn’t by formulating a personal plan and pushing forward with boldness and with burden. It is through God that we find both strength and purpose.
For God has both the plan for our lives and the manner of achieving it. As we lean gratefully on God, we hear His guidance and wisdom step by step, in the direction and at the pace that He would have us go, to fulfill His perfect design for our lives, one that is blessed and a blessing.
We find our sufficiency in God’s abundance forever with us. His strength is our strength. His confidence is our confidence. When we let God direct us and protect us, we have all that we need, including a clarity of purpose and a love for that purpose as well. We are self-sufficient by knowing that our selfhood is always at one with God. We cannot do anything alone, and we never have to.
We are ready for anything and equal to it, as this verse says, because we have God’s Love with us, His Spirit in us, and His Truth actively unfolding our right and successful way.
