“Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm.” (Psalms 37: 8, New Living Translation)

Amen! Let’s stop being angry at others, at the world, at ourselves. Let’s take a pause to recognize even those subtle disturbances within that may not be expressed but may simmer beneath the surface.

We can and must stay calm and discover that true peace that’s ours to both feel and share. Anger may feel justified, and at times it may seem to temporarily make us feel better. Our outrage puts the blame on others and makes us feel innocent. Our temper is a reaction that feels like action, but, in truth, it isn’t constructive or helpful in situations, nor does it honor us and who we really are.

Turn from your rage, this verse tells us. And this means we must turn toward something else. Not toward pity or fear or frustration, but toward God. Toward Love. This is trust in the goodness that is truly operating for us and all. This release to God settles us and brings resolution. It is a healing perspective. Anger leads to harm. It stirs us up and makes us ill at ease as well as causing trouble around us. Anger opposes peace, which is God and His true harmonious government.

Let’s do ourselves a mighty favor and help our world thrive as well. Let’s stop being angry. Let’s be alert, but unclouded by rage. Let’s be ready to bring more light and the power of peace to our lives and to our world.
