“Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man, to bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.” (Job 33:29, 30)

We may feel that we spend a lot of time in the pit—feeling fearful, getting ourselves in trouble, making mistakes, feeling ashamed or in doubt.

But God doesn’t give up on us or leave us to climb out by ourselves. He continues to work with us, over and over again, bringing us new inspiration and new strength. God reveals to us what we most need in each moment to see and know and be. We can turn to God and expect Him to help us, to lift us up and out and into the light.

Each challenge may seem like it is our undoing. It may feel that we have tried God’s patience, or that we have lost patience ourselves. But there is always a rescue. There is always God’s Spirit coming to us to show us a life that is even better than what we knew before or what we hoped for. We can release ourselves to God’s enlightenment. We can turn from self-analysis, self-doubt, self-judgment—from self overall—and find our true identity in letting go.

Love is at the ready to lead us out, as it has before and ever will do, and to give us more occasions to feel that love ourselves and to share it generously with our world.
