“So I say to my soul, ‘Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be disturbed. For I know my God will break through for me.’ Then I’ll have plenty of reasons to praise him all over again. Yes, he is my saving grace!” (Psalms 42: 11, the Passion Translation)

It can feel natural to be discouraged or upset when things don’t go the way we hoped, or when we are confronted with challenges that seem daunting. In these times, we may find ourselves settling into a place of despair and hopelessness, wrapping our darkness around us and accepting its presence as our fate.

But these words remind us of a better action to take. We can speak to our souls with gentle encouragement. We can listen to and nurture that heart within that believes in solutions, in uplift, in inspiration, in salvation. We can look to God, as we have before, and not only hope that He comes through for us, but really get in a space of gratitude and praise, an awareness of what is possible with divine Love.

God is our saving grace. We can turn from the troubles that want to mesmerize us, and awake to the presence of God, always with us, showing us what is real and right for us. We can humbly let go of the ego’s pride and worry and let God’s Truth shine on us, lifting us out of the doldrums and into the celebration of a new view, a new day!
