“The Spirit of God not only maintains this hope within us, but helps us in our present limitations. For example, we do not know how to pray worthily as sons of God, but his Spirit within us is actually praying for us in those agonising longings which never find words.” (Romans 8: 26, J. B. Phillips New Testament)
We can lean on God to sustain us in our times of need, to provide us with comfort and inspiration to give us more hope and faith. We can trust that God’s loving Spirit is with us to open our eyes to His goodness and provision.
And in those times when we feel incapable of articulating in prayer what we need or finding enough clarity and presence of mind to know how to think or feel, we can trust God’s merciful kindness. God’s ever-presence means His Love is already there in us and with us. He is guiding us to the Truth, not by our humanly perfect prayer, but by His own Spirit, His Christ tenderly near and loving and saving.
This Spirit is within us. When we turn off the judging and the ego and let God be God, in us and for us, we realize that it is never about what we are doing or saying or how we are saying it. God is All and in all. His Word is in us. It is our very heartbeat and breath, giving us light and life, not by effort but by grace.
