“He has bestowed on us His precious and magnificent promises [of inexpressible value], so that by them you may escape from the immoral freedom that is in the world because of disreputable desire, and become sharers of the divine nature.” (II Peter 1: 4, Amplified Bible)
The world would often invite us to participate in its immoral activities, enticing us into thoughts and experiences that are less than what we deserve, less than who we truly are. We may feel that freedom comes through selfishness, disregarding others and letting more base desires guide our actions.
But we have an escape from what is degrading, dark, limiting, and ultimately unsatisfying. We have God’s promise, the Christ. We have what is more valuable than the accumulation of money or goods, the amassing of accolades, or some feeling of following what everyone else is doing. This is not true freedom, for we are in self-imposed bondage to a false view of life and of ourselves.
The Christ-Truth of our true goodness is precious and magnificent. We can joyously hold to this wonderful promise. Instead of joining the world in the gloom of finiteness and fear, negativity and materialism, we can be sharers of the divine nature. We can agree to be part of a higher design, united with Love and living a life that is much more natural to us, more right, more productive, and genuine, and free.
