“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (Philippians 4: 8, New Living Translation)
Our consciousness is powerful. We may go about doing good works and being nice people, but if our thoughts are not in line with this goodness, we are missing something vital.
We can be alert to what is filling our minds, what we are dwelling on. We can recognize and reject the pull of complaint, criticism, fear, hatred of others, or unloving self-talk. When our thinking is in line with good, with God, we find joy and peace and our lives bring more genuine healing to the world.
We can choose what we think about. We can decide to take time to contemplate what is beautiful and honest, what is pure and healing, what is honorable and kind. This is not just positive thinking. It is about being more true to God and to ourselves as His ideas. It is allowing the divine qualities to have a generous place in our heads and hearts and to naturally reveal experiences that are more right and constructive and satisfying as well.
