“A generous person will be blessed.” (Proverbs 22: 9, New English Translation)

Such a simple yet significant statement. Generosity is an amazing human quality. It offers up what one has for the benefit of another. Generosity goes beyond mere giving. It is giving liberally, and with no feeling of loss in doing so.

To be generous also means to be free from smallness of mind or character; magnanimous. It is acting or thinking with a spirit of love, without judgment or pettiness. True generosity expresses the qualities of God. It recognizes the available, inexhaustible richness of goodness and love, and so shares abundantly with no fear or need for recompense.

We can afford to be generous because we have so much to give—of our hearts and of our unique gifts—and the Source is boundless, continually replenished. The blessing of being generous is certainly the very awareness of this fact of spiritual abundance, of wholeness, and of the treasure of feeling and expressing Love without measuring it out, without judging its recipients.

There is a natural and priceless satisfaction in doing good, in sharing sincerely and freely.
