“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)

We all can have days when we feel empty. There may be a loss of energy or of hope or of comfort. We may not feel we understand enough or have enough confidence or wisdom to be helpful to others or to ourselves.

But Jesus gives us promises in his beatitudes. He reminds us in this verse that it isn’t about being humanly perfect, having great intelligence, or having always lived a perfect life. Our very awareness that we need God, that we seek the nutriment of what is good and right, is enriching. It is fulfillment.

We can recognize that this humble sense of spiritual seeking reveals a feast. As our hearts reach for more than what the eyes can see or what human opinions would tell us, we gain insights and inspiration. As we do our best to turn away from the limited, from the ego, we find God, the Life that provides for our needs, brings us peace, and causes us to naturally progress as well.
