“Try to shine as lights among the people of this world, as you hold firmly to the message that gives life.” (Philippians 2: 15, Contemporary English Version)

This is a powerful request. It seems to me quite an urgent one as well. The light is always needed. Oppressive darkness can seem so aggressive, so real, and even unavoidable.

And yet, light always breaks the dark. Even a small flame will dissolve any black space, enlighten a room or a world. We have been given the message of true salvation, that wonderful awareness that we are children of God, that we are inseparable from our Source, Who is goodness, Life, and Love.

And so, as we hold to this Truth, as we identify ourselves honestly, knowing our oneness with God, we not only have access to the light of Life every moment, we have within us the natural call and privilege to share it. We take our inner knowing, our consciousness of reality, into the outer world. We shine with God’s own radiance, and this has a significant and positive impact.

Don’t let the darkness mesmerize you into apathy. Don’t let it cause you to forget what you know and who you are. Instead, remember the light that is Truth and Love and honor it by living with expectation, kindness, and grateful joy. Shine on!
