“For, dear brothers, you have been given freedom: not freedom to do wrong, but freedom to love and serve each other.” (Galatians 5: 13, the Living Bible)

Brothers and sisters, you are born free. You are naturally made to be the expression of God’s Spirit, which inherently includes liberty—the freedom to be what you were created to be.

And this blessed idea that we are fulfills our purpose in the best way by loving and serving others. We were built to love, so we abuse our freedom when we are selfish or unkind. This wrong thinking and behavior goes against God’s intention for us. In fact, it puts us in unnecessary bondage. For to obey and respond to something less than loving and good, is to serve what really has no power, what limits and lies.

We can consciously cherish the fact of our freedom—the innate qualities of Life and Truth and Love within us—and think and act accordingly. We have the ability to choose to be generous and loving and open, rather than closed off, exclusive, judgmental. This freedom to be good is one that makes a difference in our world, but which succeeds in making us feel satisfied and happy, too. For when we are serving the purpose of Love, we can’t help but feel and experience that healing, saving, comforting Love as well.
