“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, the person who hears My word [the one who heeds My message], and believes and trusts in Him who sent Me, has (possesses now) eternal life [that is, eternal life actually begins—the believer is transformed]…” (John 25: 4, Amplified Bible)
Jesus wanted us to know this very vital thing. He told his immediate disciples (and us today) that to hear the word that he taught and demonstrated, and to believe it, was to have eternal life.
This powerful message that Jesus revealed to mankind was the Truth of us all as sons and daughters of God, forever at one with His purpose and with His Love. This recognition of the Christ, the Truth that defies the limiting beliefs of man and of finite life, was the glorious reality Jesus proved in his own life and resurrection.
The Master wanted us to know that receiving this new vision of being and of our own relationship to God, was not merely an invitation to a far-away heaven. It was immediate transformation. Eternal life, heaven, starts at the point of receiving and believing. Jesus assured us of this fact, and he knew of what he spoke. The promise was not human but divine. It came directly from the God Who sent him, straight to you and me, to be known, accepted, and lived today!
