Daily Inspiration, November 7th

kindness-and-compassion

“Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct he should show his works done in the gentleness that wisdom brings.” (James 3: 13, New English Bible)

Wisdom is certainly something we hope to have and to express. We want to be discerning and intelligent in our actions and make choices for our lives that are right.

From this passage, it seems clear that if we have true wisdom, it is demonstrated not only in good behavior, but in gentleness. This is the awareness that is also understanding. It is that conscious intelligence that is not only nice, but also kind, compassionate, patient, gentle. This wisdom does not come merely with age or by experience. It is that which flows forth naturally from God Who is Love. It is through our Oneness with divine Love that we are truly wise and can prove it rightly and with healing evidence.

To be gentle is to be calm, soothing, peaceable towards others. It is to make sure one feels cared for and relaxed and safe. It is to be tender with others, having that wise perception that knows the need and meets it with genuine thoughtfulness and grace.

This is wisdom born of Love. And while it is sweet and humble, it also has the power and effectiveness of God behind it.
