consecrate

“Consecration to good does not lessen man’s dependence on God, but heightens it. Neither does consecration diminish man’s obligations to God, but shows the paramount necessity of meeting them.” (Science and Health, page 262)

Consecration is a sacred devotion to a higher power. This power we know to be God—infinite good and perfect and perpetual Love. A conscious dedication to God brings us the great gift of reliance. By drawing closer to Him and giving Him our true worship and respect, we gain the true freedom that comes of trust. We are not in control, but we know Who is, and we are fearless and joyous in this awareness.

Yet, we also discover that consecration doesn’t mean we have nothing to do and no part in this holy relationship. As we come to know God and all He is and does, this is our call to action and our duty made clear and bold. Goodness realized and yet not practiced is not true worship. If we are to remain one with God, then we must be ready to glorify and praise Him in our lives.

And we do this not by merely saying we love God and man, but in really loving. It means we utilize those qualities God has revealed to us. It means we magnify our worship by being and doing good. This right and supremely natural activity can only make us more intimately and honestly conscious of the Truth—of Life and Love as it really is, for us and for all.

Hi Alex: Thanks for the comments. The quote is from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, a spiritual leader and healer. The rest of the content are my thoughts on her ideas, as I feel they can apply to us in the day to day. Glad it was helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions or needs.
