“…let the loveliness of our Lord, our God, rest on us, confirming the work that we do. Oh, yes. Affirm the work that we do!” (Psalms 90: 17, Message Bible)

We often yearn for validation, for affirmations from others that we are doing well and that we are valuable. We seek others’ approval and react to opinions that are critical or unsupportive.

But, let’s begin to look beyond the judgment of other people and gain a confirmation about ourselves and our work that is truly legitimate, valid, and strengthening. We can, as the psalmist did, seek that great smile of God to assure us in our lives. God made us for His highest purpose, and gave us everything needed to faithfully carry it out. He is pleased when we act like ourselves, like the gifted ideas that we uniquely and magnificently are.

Let God’s “loveliness”—that loving and beautiful and inspiring and beaming blessing—rest upon us. Let God’s confirming Word be what assures us of our success, our goodness, our worthiness, and that shines a light on our path going forward.

When we set aside the judgment of others and our own self-criticism, we can hear God’s voice, feel His hand guiding us, and have all the affirmation we really need to do good in the world, with satisfaction, productivity, fruitfulness, and joy.
