scripture-overcome-fear

“Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.” (Romans 12: 21, New Living Translation)

Evil can come in many forms. It can be the more obvious oppression of hatred and subjugation and war and selfish aggression toward others. Or it can be subtler—those darker suggestions that come to our own thought looking for attention, focus, acceptance, resignation, or fear. This evil can be a state of self-condemnation or unkind judgment of self or others. It can be the evil that lives in a state of outrage and anger and actively resists receptivity to solutions, peace, even compromise.

Let’s not let evil, in thought or actions, conquer us. Let’s not allow this overt or sneaky belief to take us over. Instead, let’s be on the offensive against it. When the anger, blame, vengefulness, or destructiveness appears or threatens to, let’s be more aggressive in combatting this in the only way that has power.

By doing good. For God is good and He is omnipotent. Evil loses its hold on us as we shelter ourselves in the awareness that we are one with God and that we are the natural expression of all that He is. This is the fortress where we are safe, strong, and our truest selves. Let’s actively do good ourselves and in the world, not by giving evil our fear or focus, but by consciously doing what is loving and right, seeing goodness in others and for them, and seeking harmony.

Evil can’t conquer you if your weapons are the right ones—love, peace, receptivity, compassion, kindness, mercy, and conscious gratitude to God, good, for being All-in-all.
