“Unselfish ambition, noble life-motives, and purity, —these constituents of thought, mingling, constitute individually and collectively true happiness, strength, and permanence.” (Science and Health, page 58)
Here noted are three beneficial qualities that we can realize and cultivate if we are to feel truly happy and at peace in ourselves and with the world. These are aspects of our thinking that together help us achieve success. They are entirely natural to you, ready to be utilized.
If you look to your heart, without judgment or analysis, you can discover that selfless purpose and the desire to pursue it. We often think of ambition as something that is a personal drive or push for attainment. But an ambition that is about good for all and not exclusively for ourselves, is an admirable and powerful thing. The dictionary defines ambition as “an earnest desire for some achievement…and the willingness to strive for its attainment.” That willingness, not willfulness, is a yielding to God’s purpose, listening, and obeying with energy and receptivity and expectation of success.
These selfless good works, in unison with life-motives that are noble and thoughts that are pure—free of limits and judgment and fear and the belief of sin and evil—bring us an honest and sustainable joy and peace. We have attuned ourselves to God’s real design for our lives. This harmonious blending of powerful yet loving qualities brings out satisfying results in our own lives and for those around us as well.
