“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Romans 6: 16)
Our devotion is all-important. Where we choose to give our focus, the worship of either our affection or our fear, determines what kind of a life we will experience. We have the opportunity each day to decide whether we want to serve the god calling itself the senses, limitation, time, and fear or whether we want to obey and honor Truth, righteousness.
Be conscientious about this. When we are obedient to goodness, love, honesty, purity, peace, the results are that we live in accord with the law, the true law of Love. Obeying and honoring this law, we are protected by it and provided with all that God’s government would supply for our well-being. On the other hand, if we continue to limit our lives, follow a course of resentment, of guilt, of unloving conclusions drawn from the senses and material opinions, we are serving those “gods,” so to speak, that have no power to protect us, keep us, or love us.
“Yielding” ourselves as servants to righteousness, is not a hardship. Yielding is surrendering to the Life that God has made for us and for which we are well-suited. In being true to God, we are being true to ourselves, and we “serve” God by naturally reflecting His goodness, love, and Truth in our fruitful and satisfying lives.
