“Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty (snobbish, high-minded, exclusive), but readily adjust yourself to [people, things] and give yourselves to humble tasks. Never overestimate yourself or be wise in your own conceits.” (Romans 12: 16, Amplified Bible)
Knowing our brilliance as a child of God, our true and limitless nature, should not make us arrogant or self-righteous. Instead, it should make us more humble, more aware of better ways in which we can love others. Divine Love does not judge or condemn. It does not play favorites or exclude. It does not see haves and have-nots.
This is our best self. That one that is the obedient reflection of our God Who is perfect Love. As we recognize ourselves this way and see others as having the same awareness, the same high quality, the same lovableness, we are living not only more kindly, but more powerfully.
Be alert. Confidence and inspiration can shift into arrogance and stubborn inflexibility when we are not keeping watch. There is no individual better than another because of his education, his position, or his human status. We have much to learn from everyone, and the small and seemingly humble tasks that some may do, are just as full of God’s qualities as the acts of a broad visionary. Simplicity, humility, and sincerity are powerful beyond measure, for they proceed from the spiritual authority that is on high, rather than from human high-mindedness that can’t see the brilliant forest of all life because it is transfixed by the trees of its own ego.
