Daily Inspiration, January 10th

“He holds you firmly in place; He will not let you fall. He who keeps you will never take His eyes off you and never drift off to sleep.” (Psalms 121: 3, The Voice Bible translation)

You are safe. You are held in place by God’s law and because of His Love. He has you in His thought at all times, for you are His most precious idea. The place God has made for you is one that you fill beautifully, and it is more than a physical spot. It is your spiritual identity, one which is maintained and sustained eternally.

God won’t let you fall from His care or falter in being who He caused you to be. God made you of His own qualities, crafted in a uniquely inspired way, and you are meant to sparkle and shine forever—to continue as He caused you to be with perfect integrity and the perpetual innocence of newness. You can’t fall out of that ideal, for God, the unfailing Principle, holds you there.

And God’s eyes never drift off to sleep or stray from His attentiveness to His own creation. You will never be neglected or allowed to wander from Life’s true and glorious intention for you. You are always at One with God and never fail to be both the object and evidence of His powerful and tender Love.

Daily Inspiration, January 5th

“’Give us this day our daily bread’; Give us grace for to-day; feed the famished affections;” (Science and Health, page 17)

The Lord’s prayer guides us to turn to God for our sustenance. This “daily bread” refers to that right provision for each day, as was the manna supplied each morning in the wilderness for Moses and his followers to feed them. But Jesus knew this bread to be so much more.

The bread of Life to him was the Word of God. It was the inspiration that his Father gave him each day—those pure and right thoughts, the Christ-message of salvation—that truly sustained him, and what this line of the prayer surely signifies.

The illumination of Jesus’s words in this quote helps us to recognize the fullness and intimacy of this prayer and the Truth it affirms. We look eagerly and expectantly to God for grace—for sweet tenderness and love and guidance in ways that are healing and beautiful. God’s law of abundance meets our needs not only for physical well-being, but also assures that our hearts are fed as well. This daily bread, this daily grace, provides comfort for our grief, understanding for our yearning, peace in our struggles, inspiration for our apathy.

Our human affections that can often seem less than satisfied, are fed by this divine providence. This manna for the soul is always just right for each day and ready to be received in our receptive hearts and willing minds. Amen!

Daily Inspiration, January 3rd

“Truth makes a new creature, in whom old things pass away and ‘all things are become new’… We cannot fill vessels already full. They must first be emptied.” (Science and Health, page 201)

As we embark on a new year, we can take this statement even more to heart and follow its wise instruction. Truth—God’s Truth about us—is always renewing us, for God’s creation is always fresh and flourishing, good, innocent, free, and just right.

The layers of doubt, fear, and human experiences, may seem to make or unmake us, creating some new version of ourselves, roughened and toughened by time and loss, mistake and circumstance. But in each moment, we have Truth to tell us what is really going on and to invite us to experience life with a new perspective and a new promise.

We can allow this Truth to recreate us—to reveal us in our full splendor and infinite potential. Our job is to empty those vessels and let in the currents of cleansing, renewing, Life and Love. We must do our best to detach from the lies and burdens we have been carrying around, that have been belittling us and causing us to lose our sparkle. We can’t continue to hold on to those limiting beliefs about ourselves and accept and experience a renewal at the same time.

Dump out the trash! Be willing to start fresh this year (and each day!), with God alone telling you who you are and what is truly possible for you as His child, His beloved and blessed!

Daily Inspiration, December 29th

“…the darkness is beginning to lift and the true light is now shining in the world. Anyone who claims to be ‘in the light’ and hates his brother is, in fact, still in complete darkness. The man who loves his brother lives and moves in the light, and has no reason to stumble.” (I John 2: 8-10, J.B. Phillips New Testament)

The darkness is lifting. The recognition of the power of Love is coming to light. And we are the living evidence of this radiance and its capacity to heal and to save.

We can actively, consciously, conscientiously, persistently, realize and claim that it is infinitely better to love than to hate. Love is God and God is Almighty. Hatred opposes omnipotence and it cannot win, cannot do us or anyone any good. To hate another is to agree to be in the dark, to walk in ignorance of the beauty, peace, and true and genuine joy of loving.

We must be true to ourselves. We must be clear that it is more natural for us to love than to hate. We must come to see that love is light and light gives us progress, insight, energy, joy. Love causes us to prosper. Hating another, resenting them, envying them, or judging them, is a stumbling block in our natural and easy way to success.

Hatred is a flame that burns us up. The true light of Love leads us safely, warms us, and makes our way clear, productive, and full of genuine and generous joy!

Daily Inspiration, December 27th

“‘Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.’ Let us watch, work, and pray that this salt lose not its saltness, and that this light be not hid, but radiate and glow into noontide glory.” (Science and Health, page 367)

You are made to illumine the world with your authentic and powerful God-light. The goodness and love within you are meant to be shared and to bring healing and comfort and joy to others far and near. This light that is you; this valuable commodity that is genuine and needed, must endure.

If we are to be of use to others and find peace and satisfaction ourselves, we must be faithful about tending our light and keeping the “salt” of our nature real and true and of its most pure quality. It takes alertness not to get sucked into letting others take our light away from us by their own opinions and judgment. Likewise, it can be tempting to allow ourselves to blend in with others, thus losing the very specialness that is truly honest, God-designed, and therefore, powerful.

Continue to nurture your own light and love and capacity by remembering its Source. When you feel too small or too overwhelmed or too uncertain to cut loose and share boldly what you feel and know and are, simply remember that the all-wise Mind saw fit to form you, just as you are, and His purpose is that you express His own glory, presence, and goodness.

So, put yourself on that “hill.” Let yourself be aligned with and defined by God on High, and not by the earthly perceptions. Stay above and beyond limits, and on that mountain of Truth, shining boldly, joyously, and naturally!

Daily Inspiration, December 22nd

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9: 6)

Jesus was born on that glorious morning and with him came realizations that would change the world. The Truth of Life was awakened in mankind, fulfilling the prophesy of Isaiah. This son of God was the Messiah who gave us not only a healing and loving view of life, but one that was mighty and everlasting.

We can be reminded this holiday season that grateful awe is an appropriate feeling just as it was on the day of the Christ-child’s birth. For this innocent idea of God and His child continues to be the very governing power of our lives. This simple yet profound event dawns in our hearts each day as we accept this law of Life, God’s eternal Word about us as His own children and beloved.

Let’s bring to each day a renewed reverence for what we have been given. This light of healing Love continues to be the very undergirding Principle of the world and the controlling, guiding, protecting power over us all. The Prince of Peace has come and has not left us. This is everlasting Christmas—a new morning light each day awakening us to the Christ, the active presence of the divine here and now for all mankind to feel and know.

Daily Inspiration, December 20th

“…one cannot suffer as the result of any labor of love, but grows stronger because of it.” (Science and Health, page 387)

We are strengthened by our commitment to goodness. We gain power and comfort and peace as we do good. We can’t be depleted by giving, from an honest heart.

Why is this? It is certainly easy to feel at times that doing for others is draining and overwhelming. But, when we approach any right action from the standpoint of its Source in God’s own Love, we are safe and secure. A “labor of love” that finds one also equally burdened with personal responsibility, fear, doubt, or colored with resentment, is not fully reliant on the Love of God, which is strengthening, progressive, and peaceful.

Listen to your heart and do what it tells you to do. Let divine Love guide you, step-by-step. For a labor of love for another is also an activity with Love—that is, with God and within His Love ourselves. Divine Love is protection and power. We reflect this Love; we don’t carry it as a burden. It is a healing force for others and it lifts us up as well, carries us through, gives us success, energy, clarity, and appreciation.

We cannot suffer for doing loving work. Remember to do these inspired tasks with divine Love—with God’s guidance and His power, as well as His care for and joy in, you! Your work will benefit others and bless you as well!

Daily Inspiration, December 15th

“Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom!” (Luke 12: 32, Amplified Bible Classic Edition)

Be calm and be thankful. These may seem like days to fear and doubt, to feel anxiety about our lives individually and about our world. But we do have a promise. There is a higher intention that is keeping us safe, secure, and with gifts of goodness to enjoy.

Let’s envision ourselves as Jesus did. Let’s see that we are not a scattered and confused and discordant horde of people, constantly bickering, warring, and lacking in substance and in joy. Let’s instead recognize that we are part of a flock. To God we are a “little flock,” a product of His great Love, but also His intimate family, dear ones who are learning, growing, straying, mistaking, wandering, wondering, but continually beloved and watched.

We don’t have to earn the kingdom of God’s grace and Love. It is His pleasure to give it to us, for that is what Love does. It loves. Our task is to realize that we are indeed sheep in God’s flock, under His patient and wise care, and that not one of us is excluded or out of His sight.

Each of us has a place and sufficiency in His pasture—in the kingdom of true peace, harmony, safety, and with a fearless awareness of the Shepherd’s abundant Love.

Daily Inspiration, December 13th

“…test and prove all things [until you can recognize] what is good; [to that] hold fast.” (I Thessalonians 5: 21, Amplified Bible Classic Edition)

We are students in the laboratory of life. Through our experiences, we are given the opportunity to discover what is true and demonstrable and right for us. We gain a genuine recognition of and appreciation for what is good and lasting and beneficial.

We are not being asked in this passage to simply take something on faith. While trust is a beautiful thing, more is required if we are to be sure not only of the Truth of something but also of our own understanding of the Principle and its practicality in life. We must take whatever inspires us or what we are being taught, and utilize it, put it into practice.

And when we discover what does work—what brings us healing and happiness and a sense of purpose and productivity—to this we must stay loyal. We can come to realize and comprehend, even through trial and error, that God’s control is more freeing than personal control; that Love feels healthier and more productive than resentment, hate, fear, guilt; that a limited view of our life is not the reality of it and that we have access to more freedom. And then these truths we can trust and nurture, continue to practice and to love.

Let’s put our lives to the test. We are safe in God’s reality as we gain a deeper recognition of the magnificent Life we’ve been given and so to experience it fully, with awareness and gratitude, generosity and joy!

Daily Inspiration, December 8th

“Live right, and you will eat from the life-giving tree. And if you act wisely, others will follow.” (Proverbs 11: 30, Contemporary English Version)

Living rightly is riches. It feeds and sustains us and causes us to grow in understanding and in grace. This “right living” is not moral uptightness or a sober and joyless experience. Right living is living in relation to the divine. It is being so connected to God and His goodness, His very design for our being, that we can’t fail to act in love, with good intentions, and to flourish in doing so.

Actions that proceed from a sincere, gracious, and grateful heart, give us not only sustenance and strength, but also a spring in our step, a happiness that isn’t simply pleasure, but is truly contentment within. When we consciously recognize the truth of our being—at one with God and expressing His qualities—we walk naturally and easily forward. We progress.

And we become leaders not by force or appointment, but because others are drawn to what we do and who we are. They recognize and respond to the wisdom that we have gained and that we practice. They are also attracted to our joy—our true satisfaction in being and doing good just because it is who we want to be and who we are.
