“But as for me, your strength shall be my song of joy. At each and every sunrise, my lyrics of your love will fill the air! For you have been my glory-fortress, a stronghold in my day of distress.” (Psalms 59:16, the Passion Translation)

The enthusiastic gratitude of the psalmist is inspiring. He wakes with an awareness of God’s protection and affection. He makes his day about a vital appreciation of God and His presence and qualities.

We can let each sunrise be a reminder of God’s own Word filling our being and ringing out as a song in our life. We can release ourselves to God’s Love that embraces us and empowers us each moment. God writes our days, and they are poetic and powerful stories of light and goodness. Each breath is inspiration—the lyrics of God’s love ready for us to receive and to honor and to live.

Even when days seem dark or dull, we can remember that there is more going on. We can begin with praise that we are preserved in God’s glory-fortress—that stronghold that both keeps us safe and brings us enlightenment, uplift, and a readiness to join in the holy chorus of Love’s morning song.

“He takes care of his people, like a shepherd who takes care of his sheep. He picks up the young lambs and he carries them near to his heart.” (Isaiah 40: 11, Easy English Bible)

God’s care for us comes from the dearest, deepest sense of Love. When we lean on others or ourselves as we go through life, we miss the most sweet and powerful and perfect attention, direction, and protection that we can feel as we yield to the Love of God.

For God’s care is constant. His Love endures. His understanding and wisdom are always available, right, and impartial. We are God’s little children, His beloved ones, the cherished ideas of His Mind and the offspring of His pure Love. We are always with God and He is always capable of leading us rightly. He will always take us home, even when we aren’t sure what and where that home is, where that sense of peace and harmony can be found.

God knows the way and He knows the how of our lives. He knows the destination and can take us the best way, the most scenic and instructive route. And God brings us there safely within His embrace. Just like little lambs, just like precious children, He carries us near to His heart, tenderly and fully protected, and actively and perfectly loved all the way.

My sheep will no longer be afraid or terrified, and not one of them will be missing,’ declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 23:4, GOD’S WORD Translation)

Our gentle yet powerful God is taking care of us. He promises not only to keep us safe, but to cause us to lose fear, to feel a true sense of peace.

We can look to the world and to others to bring us security, but we can only find this true and lasting sense of safety and comfort through our Shepherd, God, who is divine Love and Life itself. As part of this great fold of mankind, we are so tenderly seen. We can’t be lost from the all-seeing Mind. God always knows where we are. He’s always ready to show us the fact of our unchanging presence with Him—at one with His goodness, never lost from His flock.

God’s Love brings us home when we wander, cleanses us when we fall into the mud of trouble, and comforts us when we feel uncertain or despairing. God’s promise is not limited. We are all God’s sheep. We are all equally precious to Him and so He seeks us out, shows us the way, and continues to actively love us.

Let’s release ourselves to God’s care and be the sheep that follow—not blindly or ignorantly, but because we understand what it means to be God’s beloved; because we humbly, willingly want to frolic fearlessly in the flowering fields of God’s Life and Love.

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” (Zephaniah 3:17 New Living Translation)

God is not distant or intangible. He’s not too high and mighty for us to know Him, feel His presence, receive His goodness and love.

God is living among us, for He is Life itself. He is not a material identity that can come and go or be limited in His ability to be present and active. God is the very Spirit of Life itself. He is All and in all. His Love embraces us, and His Truth supports us. His Soul delights in us because we are the object and expression of all that He is and does.

This verse is from the Old Testament. It makes clear that even before the birth of Jesus, the healing Christ was recognized. There was a consciousness of God as being with us in each moment, as Jesus was to so powerfully go on to prove.

God never made some choice to come to earth or to leave it. God made all things and dwells in them. He has always been with us and with all, and in any moment—right now!—we can awake to this awareness. We can feel God calm our fears, save us, and sing His Life-affirming songs to us each and every day.

“The wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere.” (James 3:17 Common English Bible)

We can listen to human advice and try to be better people. We can devote ourselves to reading self-help books. We can spend a lot of time analyzing our personalities and their flaws or inadequacies. We can try to find guidance from others about what to do next in our lives, and to make decisions based on our past or on a sense of time or fear.

But these solutions only take us so far. Both the approach and the outcome are limited. God’s wisdom is above all this. It comes from a place of true knowing—from Truth itself –and it is backed by Love. We can stop listening to all the voices that would get us fearful or doubting, full of blame or shame. We can awake to God’s clear and loving wisdom, which is pure, entirely good, and transcends what the physical senses or human knowledge might assess to be real or right.

This divine wisdom comes with loving intention, and it leads us to express that love as well. God’s wisdom causes us to move in accord with Him, with Love’s purpose and methods, so we find ourselves doing and being what is not only satisfying for us, but which demonstrates God’s nature to mankind. We put off selfishness and act with friendly regard for one another, with kindness, with sincerity, helpfulness, and gentle goodness.

The wisdom found through humble listening is uplifting and empowering. It brings us true enlightenment and encourages the actions that make this light seen and felt.

“Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything. It is, in fact, the one thing that still stands when all else has fallen.” (I Corinthians 13: 7-8, JB Phillips New Testament)

Love is invincible. Love is infinite. Love does not lose a single element of its quality or power.

This Love is ours. It’s God’s Love in us and with us. It’s that divine affection that doesn’t get swayed by human arguments, by deception, by fear. This Love doesn’t leave when the going gets tough or when it seems that the situation is dramatic or traumatic. In fact, Love’s presence is even stronger then, for its purpose to comfort, transform, heal, and save, is being called into vital expression.

We can count on Love. And we can be as faithful to it as it is to us. We can allow the awareness of God’s love to give us strength that isn’t personal and that transcends the physical. We can open our hearts to ongoing hope and expectation, rather than companioning with fear and gloom.

Love has always been and always will be. It is God’s own being and so it is Life. It will never be conquered and yet it never battles. Love outlasts all by its very nature. It does not fight, but sustains peace by loving without qualification, without partiality, without limits, without end.

“Jesus prayed; he withdrew from the material senses to refresh his heart with brighter, with spiritual views.” (Science and Health, p. 32)

We may wonder how to pray, what that really means. We may feel like our prayers don’t seem to be heard or answered.

Jesus was a master of prayer. He understood implicitly the power and importance of prayer and utilized it constantly. What was he doing when he prayed? I think this quote gives us some great insights that we can use on our own behalf. It includes a definition of prayer—how to do it and what it does.

Jesus prayed by shutting out the material senses. He stopped trying to bring God to the problem, the human situation. He stopped trying to manage things on his own. Jesus consciously withdrew—sometimes physically, but also mentally—from what was trying to stir him up, to pull him into the physical story. He got into God’s story, God’s Word of Truth, and let that inspiration show him what was real and what was possible. He took his thought—and we can, too—to a place that was not limited by person, place, or circumstance. He turned away from sense and self and let God be God.

And this activity was renewing. Jesus’ receptive heart was blessed with brighter views, spiritual reality, and this was healing. He prayed by being with God alone, in thought, and not allowing anything else to come in. He didn’t weigh in the fear or the challenge or himself or others around him. He simply let God revive him.

Let’s pray. Let’s follow Jesus’ example and give ourselves this gift of brighter views, of the healing Truth which is just as present and powerful for us today as it was for Jesus centuries ago.

“God be merciful and gracious to us and bless us and cause His face to shine upon us and among us—Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!” (Psalms 67: 1, Amplified Bible Classic Edit

This beautiful benediction is meant for us. We can turn to God and expect this generous goodness to come to us, to lift us, to renew us, to comfort us, to assure us.

God’s brilliant light is always shining upon us. His Love beams at the ideas He caused, the children He created to express His nature, to make His glory known. We can receive this blessing each day. We can be ready to accept God’s mercy and grace, to release ourselves to His smile of approval, His tender encouragement, His guiding Truth.

Let’s not take this relationship for granted. Let’s really pause and think about what it means that God’s face is shining upon us and among us. Let’s calmly allow God’s Love for us to be individually felt. And let’s know that this powerful affection is with all—uniting us in one great embrace, leading us out of fear, anger, discord, and into our rightful purpose and true peace.

“Your lives light up the world. For how can you hide a city that stands on a hilltop?”
(Matthew 5:14, the Passion Translation)

We have God’s light within us. We have the bright flame of Truth in our hearts, and we can let this light shine in our lives.

We may feel that we aren’t doing much to make a dent in the troubles of the world or that our contributions pale in comparison to others. We may believe our own human challenges keep us from being good examples, from being upbeat all the time, and that we have too much doubt and fear ourselves to be that beam of light that this verse refers to.

But your life lights up the world not because of your human perfectness, but by your right desires. In fact, the more that we seek to be better, the more that light within gets reignited and its energy and reach expand. Self-doubt may seem to hide our lights from ourselves, but when we truly believe in goodness; when we consciously choose to trust God to lead us and teach us; when our motive is to be a blessing to others and to express love, our lives have a glow that can’t be hidden.

For this light isn’t our personal candle. It is God’s love in us, lifting us up moment by moment and making sure that His healing Love reaches others, reminding them of their own light and encouraging them also to share it without timidity, without fear, and with gratitude for its powerful Source.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]” (Matthew 11: 28, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

Don’t we all want some relief at times, a refreshment not only for our bodies, but for our souls?

We may get enough sleep or take vacations, but are we truly finding that sweet release from care that this verse is offering us, that the Christ is calling us to accept? To come into the Love of God truly causes us to lay our burdens down. It enforces a rest that goes beyond our human hopes for balance and peace.

We may feel like all we do is work, labor, toil and that it can be too much to handle. We may love our work but also feel that its productivity and outcome is reliant solely on us. We may be burdened with care for others—family, friends, even the well-being of our world.

But to come to Me—to the wonderful arms of God and His perfect power, love, and strength—enables us to let go of the ego’s fears and sense of personal control, and to realize God’s harmonious government of all. We can consciously choose to step away mentally from the anxiety and the willfulness and the pride, and humbly let God carry the load.

We can breathe, pause, rest, and find that refreshment and renewal that reaches our souls and brings us a new sense of life that is surely impactful, but no longer weary with care and heavy with a burden that was never ours to carry.
