Daily Inspiration, August 7th

“…in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” (I Peter 3: 15, English Standard Version)

This is a perfect recipe for a practice that brings individual contentment as well as healing to others. This is in-reach and outreach at its very best.

We begin with our own relationship with God. We consciously recognize and get better acquainted with our Father-Mother and with the Christ-Truth, that ever-active expression of His presence with us. We let Love settle into our hearts. We cherish this dynamic power and know its Source. We honor God as the One and Only, and we are honestly grateful.

Having this pure awareness of God, we are always ready and eager to share the reason for our joy, our hope, our trust. The Love for God within us yearns to be known. So, we are prepared to declare, from our hearts, what we feel and why.

And if we truly know this Christ, this universal Love that is with all mankind, then we are not forceful or arrogant about sharing. We don’t make assumptions about another’s understanding. The Christ within that we accept and adore, finds natural action as we gently and respectfully spread the good news and join others in this universal healing cause.

Daily Inspiration, August 2nd

“I will comfort you there as a little one is comforted by its mother.” (Isaiah 66: 13, The Living Bible)

We may feel like mature adults, with wisdom and experience and responsibility. We are here to tend to our young ones and to help others around us. Our job is to be the caretaker, the worker, the one strong and in control.

But God sees you in a different way. God knows that She is the Mother and Father of you. You are the child. You will always be the child. Just as you aren’t the Creator of the universe, neither are you its Parent. That’s God’s place.

And there will be times, perhaps, when you are more in need of comfort than any dear baby might be. You may not be humanly innocent and uneducated, but you are a pure little one to divine Love. And this ever-available Mother is ready to love away those cares, wipe away any tears, assure as well as instruct.

So, sink yourself into the arms of God, without guilt or apology. You are never too grown up for God’s Love, for the Mother’s tender caring of Her own child. We can be willing to be this child and to receive this gentle comfort and its powerful results. For the love of the Mother is not just a nice feeling to receive, it is renewing, energizing, healing, restoring, and it is abundant for sharing with others as well.

“We must look where we would walk, and we must act as possessing all power from Him in whom we have our being.” (Science and Health, page 264)

Keep your focus on what matters. Be clear on what you aspire to do and to see and to be. God reveals this right intention to you. Listen to it. With sincerity and an honest motive, take each step forward in the light He provides.

It’s easy to get distracted from God’s higher purpose, the one that is about expanding our sense of Life and about knowing and sharing His qualities more fully and freely. We can look at various human exploits and activities as being of prime importance, and they can lead us off in directions that don’t truly serve that deeper, more important plan for us.

This is not a reason for distress. If we are awake to it, we can align ourselves with God’s vision and redirect our own focus whenever possible. For, this directed line of Life is what is true success and real satisfaction.

And when we choose to walk this path of goodness, of righteousness, as the true children of God we are, we can surely act like it. We can recognize that our high goals come with God’s power behind them. We can claim that conviction, that spiritual confidence that allows us not only to aspire to great things that please God, but to achieve them both timely and naturally.

“I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love—not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!” (Romans 8: 38-39, Contemporary English Version)

Paul was convinced. He was absolutely positive of the truth in the words of this passage. God’s Love is always with us. We can’t lose its presence, escape its influence, or pass out of its tender power.

Paul wasn’t being a Pollyanna. He wasn’t putting on a happy face and saying everything would turn out okay. Paul had been through the very things that might seem to separate one from God, from good, from Truth. He had been a persecutor of others and was persecuted himself, suffered many challenges, both from the world and from within his own thought.

But Paul knew the Christ. He had experienced the Truth of man’s genuine oneness with God, that pure relationship that Jesus demonstrated so beautifully for us all. Paul recognized that while the seeming powers of the world and the presentations of the material senses would try to convince us otherwise, our connection to Spirit was absolutely a solid certainty. It was the changeless constant on which he could always rely. And so can we.

Let’s trust this Truth. It may seem like things loom in the future to fear, or that other people or governments or circumstances can rob us of Love’s presence, but this is never, ever true. God’s Love is always with us, and often even more tangibly when we are feeling beyond human help. This powerful divine Love is right where we are, and always has been—ready, full, tender, strong, and ours to feel and know.

Daily Inspiration, July 24th

“‘Now,’ cried the apostle, ‘is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation,’ — meaning, not that now men must prepare for a future-world salvation, or safety, but that now is the time in which to experience that salvation in spirit and in life.”  (Science and Health, page 39)

This message really could not be clearer! While some may believe that we are waiting for our redemption and salvation, this isn’t what the passage quoted here is saying at all.

For what does the word “now” mean? We probably don’t need a dictionary to tell us the definition, but here it is: “at the present time or moment; without further delay, immediately; at once.”  I’m not getting a lot of equivocation there. Now means right this minute. And the verse says that this time for salvation is the one that is accepted, is right, is when we can fully agree to claim and live it out.

This day of salvation is not something we need to push out into the future, either in terms of some holy day achieved after death or the second coming or some divine event, or in the sense of waiting for our best experience, our truest life, our greatest understanding and awareness of the Truth of God’s Love and our own worthiness to fully know this.

Let’s try to be less occupied with preparing for some looming day, thereby pushing it off into the perpetual future, and be more occupied with living the Truth here and now. Jesus did the proving. This declaration confirms his charge to us, which is also our great blessing.

You are saved and safe now. This moment is just right and you are exactly right in it to feel and express God’s nature, that Life divine and glorious and happy and satisfied. Believe this promise! Lean into this moment with expectation. Now is the time!

“Keep alert. Be firm in your faith. Stay brave and strong. Show love in everything you do.” (I Corinthians 16: 13, Contemporary English Version)

What a great checklist for being a good person. If we are to follow these directives, we will surely make a positive impact on the world. And we will also find our own sense of purpose, satisfaction, and joy. For we will be doing what we were built to do. We will be expressing God’s own presence as we so naturally do. This is healing to the world and it blesses us as well.

I like how these steps seem to have an appropriate order to them. Keep alert. This means to be conscious of Truth and of the opposition to it. It really means staying awake and not allowing ourselves to fall into the mesmerism of mortality, of limit and fear and materiality. It means staying on guard against the evil lies, but also alert to receive good news, assurance, healing angels.

And following this, we are advised to be firm in our faith. As we stay mentally active and ready, we become more aware of God’s presence, so we find faith comes as a natural result. And yet, we can also be swayed by the errors that are being exposed. So, a firmness in this faith is called for. We must trust our God more than we trust the senses, opinions, matter.

And with this faith we are able to stay brave and strong. For we know we are not leaning on personal strength but leaning into the very power of God—His certainty, His capacity, His sure defense of His own purpose of goodness.

And this leads to the way in which this confidence and trust is expressed. It is by Love. For knowing God is knowing Love, and to know Love is to want to experience it always, to share the richness of it, and to bring love into all that we do. And this is not only a nice thing to do, it is where we have the power to save, to uplift, and to truly thrive!

“…don’t remember the sins of my youth or my wrongdoing. Remember me only according to your faithful love for the sake of your goodness, Lord.” (Psalms 25: 7, Common English Bible)

This plea to God is one with which we all may identify at times. We feel that our mistakes and misbehavior, the decisions we’ve made or the way we have acted in the past, has left a lingering impression that we wish could be removed.

Let’s remember that indeed, it can be. The second part of this request of God is that He remember the psalmist according to God’s own faithfulness and His own goodness. This is not only a hope, but it is a declaration of God’s qualities and of His saving law to our lives.

God remembers what He made. He is forever sustaining us, not according to our human goodness or lack of it, but according to His own goodness and fullness of it. We stray like children at times, not knowing what we are doing and blowing it, to our own estimation. It can feel like we are scarred by this, but that’s not what Truth sees. It is not what God knows. He is faithful to His ideal. His Mind is keeping intact that glorious idea that He caused, the true and innocent you that may be hidden by shame and fear but which has not left His thought; which has not left reality.

We are not punished by God for errors of sense. We are always being cleansed by His Love. It isn’t He that needs to be ready to forgive us, but we that must be willing to accept His uninterrupted Love as legitimate, timely, and freeing.

Daily Inspiration, July 12th

“…wherever two or three people come together in my name, I am there, right among you!” (Matthew 18: 20, JB Phillips New Testament)

Let us remember the great power we have when we join with one another for good. Whether we are two or a full congregation, coming together with a purpose of praise and love for God and mankind, is a healing event.

For when we do this, the Christ is with us. We are not alone and attempting to make our lives or the world a better place. We have the great wisdom and love of the Christ-Truth in that space with us. We have that inspired Word revealing gifts of guidance and protecting our holy cause. We are in a true sanctuary and this is where things happen.

And let us remember, too, that even when we come together with a common purpose and divergent opinions, the Christ is there as well. It is there to reveal the One Mind’s intention for everyone, in a way that is mutually blessing, satisfying, and progressive.

Let’s know that the Christ comes with authority and tender loving-kindness into our gatherings. And this spirit of Truth and healing Love also attends us and prepares the way when we feel we are in it alone. At these times, we can be reminded that the Christ is with us, so we are accompanied by a friend, a helper, the very Truth that sets us free.

Daily Inspiration, July 10th

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And you know the way to where I am going.” (John 14: 1-2, 4)

Ease your troubled hearts and minds. Take in this assuring, comforting, promise. Jesus meant it for you. He is inviting you into your rightful place, your rightful experience with God, divine Life and Love.

You can’t be left out. God’s infinite presence and Love makes His embracing home forever at hand. Jesus prepared the way by defining the path. He recognized and proved that the Christ, the awareness of man’s oneness with God as His child, sets us free to live that reality, claim that birthright. Right now.

And this true state of our being grants us a place of safety, serenity, satisfaction, comfort, beauty. The mansions of God are many, and they are not obscure or distant, nor are our resources too paltry to participate. We are the children of God and we know the way. We have been given that Truth, within our hearts, and we do know where we are going. We are able to hear guidance. We are ready and worthy. We are at the door and our Father-Mother is welcoming us in.

Daily Inspiration, July 5th

“My children, let us not love merely in theory or in words—let us love in sincerity and in practice!” (I John 3: 18, JB Phillips New Testament)

We can talk of love and of goodness. We can discuss the benefits of being compassionate and kind. We can contribute to various causes and sign petitions. These do have value, but only in so much that we are truly sincere.

The most powerful and meaningful thing we can do is to love. It is not to merely speak of this quality or to despise those who do not feel or act in a loving way. If we are to be God’s ideas, express the intention of the Almighty, we must love from the heart. This is true might and it is also where we find healing, serenity, and happiness.

It may seem difficult at times to truly and honestly love. We feel hurt or angry. Or perhaps it feels easier to remain ignorant of the need for true loving-kindness in the world. It is just too big a burden.

But love is not a personal quality that is a weighty load to carry or difficult to find. Love is God, and God is expressing Himself at all times and in all ways. Our call is to unite with that Love, to agree with its presence and to yield to its all-encompassing embrace.

This divine Love is always coming to us and we can reflect it back out into our own lives and into the world. This will be healing as it is sincere and as we put it into practice, one opportunity at a time. There will always be a reason to love and there will always be a blessing in doing it!
