“…anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask.” (James 1: 5, Common English Bible)

God’s wisdom is at hand! We may feel we are confused, and that life’s troubles are beyond our ability to figure out or to fix. We might think that we have done wrong or aren’t worthy enough, or too much in doubt, to receive God’s gracious guidance.

But this is a mistaken sense of God! Our loving Father-Mother, the Mind that knows all and made all, is eager to be heard and to be understood. His nature is to lead and to love. He isn’t keeping score or holding our humanity against us. God is decisive and absolute. He doesn’t have to think about helping us and weigh us in some uncomfortable balance. God is kindness and action. His voice is ready to be heard.

And we can be ready to hear it. And to obey. His wisdom is found as we seek it. It is already within us to perceive the right way, and to willingly choose that course. It is not a stretch for us to know God’s voice and to follow His leading any more than it is a stretch for God to be Himself—All in all, the Mind that is present with Truth, with goodness, with clarity, with comfort, and with Love.

“Your conduct among the surrounding peoples in your different countries should always be good and right, so that although they may in the usual way slander you as evil-doers yet when disasters come, they may glorify God when they see how well you conduct yourselves.” (I Peter 2: 12, JB Phillips New Testament)

This counsel for international affairs in biblical days is wisdom for us today as well. It is also instructive for our individual lives. Our behavior toward others, even those with which we disagree or who are less than respectful of us, should be honorable. While it may be easy to get into the dirt and to throw stones, it isn’t healing or helpful.

Let’s do our best to leave a good impression, to pause and do what feels right and kind. Let’s not let judgment run away with us and begin to do unto others the very thing we hate them doing to us. Let’s not make assumptions about a group of people or an individual based on our own limited viewpoint.

The best thing we can do is let our true values shine. We can allow God’s own qualities within us, that higher voice that guides us, to lead us to our best thought and behaviors. We can then respond with noble goodness, rather than reacting with actions that are beneath our integrity.

Our good actions in times of trouble as well as in the good times, glorify God. They express the power and beauty of His nature and the unity of His creation—a world made to show forth His harmony and His Love.

“O my soul! Return and relax. Come to your true rest, for the Eternal has showered you with His favor.” (Psalms 116: 7, the Voice Translation)

We can find and feel that true rest and relaxation. We can return home to our rightful place, where we feel safe, confident, at peace with life and with ourselves.

The psalmist called out to his own soul. He was recognizing and reminding his most inner self, that real identity, that he belonged to God and that he could trust this reality and return to that natural state of being. This conscious awareness of God’s Love and care, of His presence, is grateful praise that reveals abundance, goodness, healing, harmony.

For as we still the striving ego and settle into our place with God; as we relax and honor our worthiness, our preciousness to God, and His great power and Love, we see that we are being showered with goodness, protection, inspiration, guidance, and comfort. Our soul—our honest-to-God identity—is expressing glorious qualities that abide right where we are, actively blessing us and others, if we only relax, return, and rest!

“Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in.” (I Peter 3: 4, the Message Bible)

What does it mean to cultivate this quality within? It is to recognize and nurture that aspect of God that is your most natural self. This inner loveliness is the essence of you, and it only needs to be noticed, to be encouraged, to be unveiled, and so to shine.

This graciousness is the lovingkindness that is aware of God, of good, of what is right, and sincerely pursues these ideals. We can willingly and conscientiously cherish and give attention to our inner goodness rather than unduly focusing on the outer. It is not only a preoccupation with our looks and presentation that can draw us away from what is really powerful and good. It can also be that concern over what others think, how we appear to the world, and how we measure up.

God delights in what He made. He made a beautiful spirit, a glorious idea that is His very image—magnificent—and this is our natural state of being. As we give that sweetness our attention and affection; as we rejoice in the purpose of loving and giving, sharing and helping; as we take off the lens of judgment of self and others, we naturally both experience and express what is honestly lovely. And so, we bring light to the world, not by artifice, but by the authenticity of our radiant being.

“Our faith guarantees us permanent access into this marvelous kindness that has given us a perfect relationship with God. What incredible joy bursts forth within us as we keep on celebrating our hope of experiencing God’s glory!” (Romans 5: 2, the Passion Translation)

Relish and cultivate that faith, that hope—great or small—within you. This trust in and love of God grants us immediate and eternal awareness of the heaven of Oneness with Him, the active presence of harmony.

As we turn in God’s direction, face toward goodness and Life and Love, toward the Truth of a power beyond matter and limitation, we can feel and express this marvelous kindness. For knowing God, dwelling in this consciousness of spiritual reality, we are fully receptive to the glory that is ours naturally. God is kind. God is Love. God is Life and wisdom and good. And we have permanent access to these infinite and omnipotent qualities.

This faith isn’t blind. This hope isn’t slim and slippery. We have our God right with us and we can fully experience this heavenly fact as we celebrate it—celebrate life, exult in love, appreciate possibility—and keep on doing so!

“…for he is our God. We are his sheep, and he is our Shepherd. Oh, that you would hear him calling you today and come to him!” (Psalms 95: 7, the Living Bible)

The Shepherd is always calling us, watching us, guiding us. Our God is at the ready for us to turn to Him for direction, for comfort, for a release of fear and burden. The job of the Shepherd is to keep His sheep from harm, healthy, and in the right pasture.

We are the lambs in God’s pasture and He lovingly cares for us. We are His flock and we are necessary to His purpose. What is a shepherd without sheep? What is a good shepherd without a full flock that is flourishing? We have the divine Shepherd, the One Who is the very essence of every right quality of Life and Love and Truth. Our God is the best at all that He does.

Let’s remember that obedience to God’s leading is not blind following. It is a reliance on infinite wisdom, a trust in God and the divine eye that can see where danger might be, and can provide us shelter, a rescue, a way. And being a part of this flock is not confining, for God’s field is infinite Life, expansive yet secure, blooming with sustenance, beauty, and fun.

God is calling you today to recognize your innocence, your preciousness to Him, and to live and play with the freedom that knowing and accepting this naturally brings!

“Jesus mapped out the path for others.” (Science and Health, page 38)

Christ Jesus was a pioneer. Jesus went forth where others had not yet traversed and cleared a path for us to follow.

His map was one that unfolded a spiritual journey, one that is never taken alone, but always with God, his Father and ours. Jesus showed the world how to live in accord with God, with good, with Love. He showed us how to bring healing through this right identification, and to live in a way that was powerful, peaceful, and progressive.

This map was designed for our use, not to be viewed as some holy relic. Jesus’s words and actions, the ideas that he outlined in his sermons and demonstrated with his very life, are to be utilized, practically. The blueprint may be awe-inspiring, but it is not out of reach of every one of us. The Master’s guidance and guideposts were inspired, saving, eternally vital, and forever full of universal wisdom.

That’s what Jesus did. He brought the glorious Truth to all of us, not simply to be revered, but to be practiced. He charted a course that would honor God, Life, Truth, and show the world the Way to live in freedom and harmony, in the light of timeless Love.

“Now the power that has planned this experience for us is God, and he has given us his Spirit as a guarantee of its truth. This makes us confident, whatever happens.” (II Corinthians 5: 5-6, JB Phillips New Testament)

This experience, this life, has truly been created by God, by Spirit and Love. This Truth means that we can relax, trust, be open, and confident.

It may seem like each day is a mystery. We may feel confused about what our course is to be or what our true purpose is. It is easy to believe that we are alone in figuring things out, or that we somehow are left to the winds of fate, chance, or our own uncertain efforts to get it right, to know the way, to make it work.

But the power that has planned all for us is God. We can trust God, divine Life, to reveal to us what is progressive and good. God is Love and anything that isn’t loving, doesn’t come from that Source, is not God’s plan. We can recognize that God Himself, the Almighty, guarantees our well-being. He stands by what He made—you and your valuable life—and enforces its progress and success.

Lean into the power of your own Life. You aren’t in charge. You don’t need to be ahead of things. You don’t need to look back to endlessly evaluate and analyze. Stay present, confidently, with Life. God is in this moment, with you and for you.

“You shall be blameless (complete, perfect) before the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 18: 13, Amplified Bible)

We can come before God with reverence. We can stand in His presence, with receptivity, a consciousness that is ready and open and devoted. This brings us clarity and healing. It allows us to know God’s infinite Love and to feel it.

And this blameless state of being aligns us with God, because it is how He truly sees us. God made us to express His own nature. Perfect Mind conceives perfect ideas. God formed us to be incorruptible, pure, and forever complete. He made us of His Spirit, and no material suggestions to the contrary can change that fact.

We can accept this reality of our own identity. The guilt and blame and shame that would cause us to hide from, resist, or feel unworthy of good, does not enter into God’s assessment of us. As we release this false sense of God and of ourselves, we can feel that cleansing presence of grace. This absolution serves to awaken us to any imperfect human behavior and thoughts, and to let those go willingly, naturally, so that we can be more like Him, more like who we truly are—innocent, good, worthy, and beloved!

Daily Inspiration, July 25th, 2019

“…choose you this day whom ye will serve.” (Joshua 24: 15)

This is the day. This is the moment. Who and what will you serve?

We have the opportunity to choose what is important, where we will focus, to what we will be devoted. Today. Each moment we can decide whether to be serving selfish motives, greed, envy, malice, anger, bitterness, or whether we are serving God. To choose God is to choose good, and it is also to choose the One Mind and Spirit, over being a servant to ego and persons and things.

We can weigh our thinking each minute and see what is receiving our devotion, attention, faith. We can and must claim what is good, God, because doing this is also serving what is truly powerful, progressive, freeing, and saving. To choose God, the higher ideal, the purer intention, is to serve what is right, lawful, and successful.

Each day gives us a new occasion to reflect on our choices. This is not a cause to fret or self-condemn, nor does it have anything to do with yesterday. This day is ready to feed you with the right answer, the perfect choice, if you are willing to listen for it.

We can just go along and let life decide for us or we can conscientiously pause, listen to God, and choose what is loving, healing, enlightening, advancing, and truly satisfying.

Today is the day. Choose with care, but also with grateful trust and expectation!
