“Learn this well: Unless you dramatically change your way of thinking and become teachable like a little child, you will never be able to enter in. Whoever continually humbles himself to become like this little child is the greatest one in heaven’s kingdom realm.” (Matthew 18: 3-4, the Passion Translation)

If we really want to experience God’s goodness, a heavenly experience here on earth and beyond, we must become childlike. We must begin to identify with the innocent, open, humble truth of ourselves within. We must let go of the adult sense of ego and will, pride and fear, and think as a child would think.

In fact, we must become teachable. We must stop thinking we know everything or that we have to gain human knowledge in order to get what we want, to succeed, to advance, to be happy. Instead, the very kingdom of God—Love, light, harmony—beckons us into its goodness when we listen with fresh ears and receive instruction with the willingness of a child who is curious, ready, obedient.

We truly are children of God, and we can let Him parent us each day, without feeling the need to prove anything to Him. We are always loved by God, and our reliance on His wisdom, and obedience to it, is not only pleasing to Him, as our Father-Mother, but it assures that we live in a way that is more safe, expansive, satisfying, purposeful, and truly heavenly here and now.

“And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.” (I Corinthians 2: 12, New Living Translation)

God has given us amazing things. He has given us everlasting Life. He has endowed us with the qualities of harmony, peace, joy, light, and power that have their eternal Source in Him. We have received, from the beginning of time, and freely, the abundant blessings of God’s own perfect Love.

And these rich gifts are not hidden from us. The world may try to tell us we are lacking, small, mortal, ignorant, fearful, limited in so many ways. But we have within us the Truth. We have been given the natural and active ability to perceive what is real and true and holy and good. We have God’s Spirit in us—that Christ-consciousness that is ready to see and believe and claim and utilize the goodness He gave us.

We really can know the wonderful things that God has given us. We can release ourselves to a willingness to let go of self and the situation that the senses want to present and open our minds and spiritual eyes to what is really going on—the prosperity and peace and joy that God has generously given us, His beloved children.

“This is what our Scriptures come to teach: in everything, in every circumstance, do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 7: 12, the Voice)

This gem of counsel is the key to life. Scriptural teachings reveal many things, but Jesus is telling us here that at their core is this Golden Rule. It is a divine instruction to be carried out humanly. It is impelled by God’s Love for us and expressed through our love for one another. In other words, it comes with great power to bless and heal.

This verse tells us that we must not only do good unto others at certain times, under certain conditions, but that in every circumstance we must treat others as we would want to be treated. And, of course, this starts also with knowing our own deserving. As we see our own worth as children of God, we know that we also deserve kindness, respect, understanding, patience, comfort.

And so, we then treat each individual we encounter with the same fairness and goodness that we would want for ourselves. It isn’t a sacrifice to do this. We are wonderfully blessed each time we give of God’s rich Love. We feel the effects of this golden law of Love on ourselves and on our world as well.

“I know your deeds, love, faithfulness, service, and endurance. Your labors greatly increase in quality as you travel along this journey.” (Revelation 2: 19, the Voice)

Our good work does not go unrewarded. God sees what we do, where our hearts are, what we strive to gain and to give. God Himself is in us and all that we do. He infuses us with love and supports our faith and right intentions. As we yearn to do better, to understand more of what is right and real, we naturally progress.

Let’s trust ourselves on this journey of growth. Let’s realize that God is with us and that we can’t backslide or be punished as we do our best to handle each moment that arises. Our human errors in judgment don’t stop our forward motion. God sees the good that we do. He sees us as His children, with new things to learn in each new day.

And as we do our best to stay faithful to God, to good, and the practice of living more lovingly, everything we do gains in quality. As we let go of trying to be good humans doing good human things, and let God’s purpose shine through us, our works glow with His light, no longer dimmed by will and worry.

Our journey may seem slow or difficult at times, but as we see that each step is a step forward, up, and out of limits, we can truly enjoy the walk and each new vista along the way.

“Yet grace (God’s unmerited favor) was given to each of us individually [not indiscriminately, but in different ways] in proportion to the measure of Christ’s [rich and bounteous] gift.” (Ephesians 4: 7, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

God’s grace is specific. We each are blessed with this beautiful love from God, without needing to earn it or suffer for it. Divine Love has poured His grace upon us and put His purpose within us. We are each uniquely seen and bestowed with what is just right for us in order to show forth God’s own goodness and light and Life.

The Christ revealed that we are not separate from God. We are not lost wanderers hoping for a glimpse of light, a reason for our being. We are God’s own children, and His grace comes naturally with that relationship. And there is enough of it to go around.

Our job, our opportunity and joy, is to gratefully accept God’s grace. It’s to set aside our personal self-judgment, to give up the cynicism and fear, and to allow the Truth to come in, to show us who we truly are, and to set us free to go about God’s good business, making the world a better, more grace-filled place.

“You can pass through his open gates with the password of praise. Come right into his presence with thanksgiving.”  (Psalms 100: 4, the Passion Translation)

Gratitude will get you in. We can find our way to a fuller sense of peace and love when we start with thanksgiving, with a conscious recognition and praise for God and His goodness.

Oftentimes, the only thing that is holding up a more satisfying experience is the unwillingness to accept it, to know it, to embrace it. We get through those gates into the heavenly presence of Love and Truth and Life by realizing we are already in! It is an awakening to good, light, love, as ever-present, active, in us, with us, around us.

A mind closed to good and occupied with complaint, self-pity, negativity, can’t see the open door that invites one into the right, the joyful, the real. We may feel justified in our misery, but as we choose to let it go—to stop thinking of ourselves with gloom and doom, believing God is less than God, good—we begin to see the light.

Praise for love itself, for the grandeur of joy and humor, the beauty of art, the sweetness of affection, ushers us into reality, the true harmony of being. It guides us into God’s warm and healing presence, His kingdom at hand.

“For the Lord your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will give you victory. He will rejoice over you with great gladness; he will love you and not accuse you. Is that a joyous choir I hear? No, it is the Lord himself exulting over you in happy song.”  (Zephaniah 3: 17, Living Bible)

The promise is a reality. We are saved from the world’s attacks and from our own fears by the living presence that is the grace of God.

Let’s awake and acknowledge that God’s goodness, Life, and Love are right here with us. We are not alone, and God with us means victory, joy, peace. The God that is among us, that is our very Life, is not one full of wrath or accusation. God is the very essence of spiritual, eternal goodness. He made us to express His qualities in beautiful ways, and He lovingly carries out His purpose.

God is exulting over us, each one of us, with a happy song. We can humbly receive His gladness over us, knowing it is He that made us to be fruitful and harmonious, to thrive and to shine. We can let go of the need for others’ approval or to feel a personal pride and instead listen for and accept the glorious song of God’s perfect, honest, melodious Love.

“For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].” (Ephesians 2:10, Amplified Bible)

You have always been a work of art. God has masterfully created you with His perfect hand and impeccable vision. He caused you to actively, perpetually, show forth His glorious qualities in your own very unique and necessary way.

This beautiful being—you and your life—is being wonderfully revealed each day. Through our developing understanding of God and awareness of good, light, Love, our true selfhood is unveiled. We are freshly ready for each new day, awake to possibilities, and confident in our capacity to follow God’s path and to do it with humble gratitude.

For we are not the creators. We are not the personal owners of talent or aspiration or beauty or ability. We are not the keepers of love and its multitude of uses and its power to transform. God is the artist, and we are the art. We are God’s work, and we are perfectly designed to carry out His plan.

This is not a chore. It is a release to reality, a surrender to the good life that He has already made for us and which comes to new light, through His loving grace and embrace, each dawning day.

“Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.” (Science and Health, p. 261)

Let’s shift the focus. Let’s progressively think more about what is good and right and true—the spiritual realities of being—than the limited, the painful, the dark, the material perceptions of life.

It may take some discipline, but as we consciously choose to dwell on the enduring qualities of God, good, that are always with us and in us, we can proportionably lose preoccupation with the bad, the uncomfortable, the temporal worries and fears. As we do this, our experiences naturally reflect that change of thought. We see more beauty, more healing. We have more inspiration, more energy, more joy, more peace and prosperity.

Let the occupants in your thoughts be welcome guests, not ugly intruders. Anger, blame, shame, guilt, accusation, selfishness, resentment should be evicted to make room for gratitude, grace, lovingkindness, mercy. God’s qualities are more natural to us, and as we accept them, nurture them, steadfastly hold to them, day by day, our lives will be more what we’d like them to be and bring more to a world in need of that light as well.

“He is the embodiment of our peace, sent once and for all to take down the great barrier of hatred and hostility that has divided us so that we can be one.” (Ephesians 2: 14, the Voice Translation)

Christ brings us the solution to harmony. God’s presence brought to earthly consciousness reveals that we are one. The awareness that we are all God’s children, born of Spirit and of Love, awakens mankind to that powerful Truth that brings peace.

Hatred and hostility may seem rampant these days. We may blame persons or ideologies for what seems to be an extremely divisive experience, whether in our world or our own personal lives. But the Christ never left us, nor has its influence deserted us. Right now, here, that Christ-message of Love and brotherhood that Jesus not only taught but demonstrated through his healing works, remains an active Truth we can turn to, lean on, and utilize.

We can choose to look at the world as millions of mortals with disparate points of view and a lack of understanding of one another. We can choose to believe we are necessarily separate, without a chance at unity.

But Jesus proved that God is Love. Jesus proved that the Christ was in each of us and this Christ within us is a common bond, one that is built not of human experiences or material heritage, but on the forever fact that we are all children of God. This is our core identity, and we can each realize this, see this Christ in our fellow man, and begin to live in accord with what is real and right, rather than the lie that says we can’t get along.
