“Man is the expression of Soul. The Indians caught some glimpses of the underlying reality, when they called a certain beautiful lake ‘the smile of the Great Spirit.’” (Science and Health, p. 477)

Have you ever thought of yourself as God’s smile? Just as the beautiful lake referred to here can be seen as the evidence of God’s pleasure, His joy, so we can recognize that we are also God’s lovely and beloved expressions. God, Soul, that One Source and Creator of all identities, is satisfied with the way in which His ideas reveal His own glorious qualities.

We can gratefully recognize that we are God’s image, designed by Him to in every way please Him. Eternally. Perfect God is incapable of imperfection. Perfect Love is incapable of failing to fully love what He has made for that very purpose.

Let’s do our best to catch a glimpse of the reality of this, as the discerning Native Americans did. Let’s know that the Great Spirit, our infinite God, saw fit to make each idea, each one of us, intentionally and with care and love. We are always pleasing to Him, incapable of mutating into something less than lovable, right, and good.

You are not only the cause of God’s smile, you are God’s smile—at one with Him in the honest expression of pure divine joy!

“Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God.” (Isaiah 43: 12)

We are the conscious observers of God’s presence and power. We can be awake to behold all that God is and all that He does.

Let’s stop thinking of ourselves as passive persons without a purpose in God’s plan. We have been blessed with the ability and duty to be witnesses to God’s goodness. This means that we have a consciousness that is aware of the spiritual reality, that seeks out the good and true, and is actively grateful for it.

As witnesses, we see God’s ideas—the true man and woman of God’s creation—using those spiritual eyes that have clear and accurate discernment. Likewise, as God’s witnesses, we are the evidence of His presence, His nature, His Life, His Love. We stand as living proof that God exists, and that He is our Father-Mother, Who is entirely good.

A witness in a trial testifies, under oath, to what is true, what they have seen and understand to be fact. As God’s witnesses, we can realize and declare the Truth of God, testifying with our lives and our conscious praise, that God is God and that we are His image, His children, the radiance of His glorious light on earth.

“Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children!” (Matthew 5: 9, Good News Translation)

To promote peace is to actively affirm God’s own nature, His purpose. God is One, and this Oneness is an accord, a sense of constant harmony and unity.

As we recognize this quality, this law of God that establishes a peaceful creation, we can lean on this principle and allow it to lead us to thoughts and actions in alignment with this Truth. We can be alert to where there is discord in our own thoughts and in what appears as our experience or the world’s issues.

We can know that as children of God, we are naturally equipped with the ability to be what He caused us to be, to reflect His own nature, and so to be a powerful presence to bring out peace in a world that feels full of conflict.

It is not by striving and battling that peace can ever be won. But as we work toward the revelation of this true state of being—playing our part through prayer and understanding and respect and kindness as we are led—we make a difference. And we can feel the true joy this brings. We can be happy, not burdened, as we abide in and express God’s intention with expectation, patience, and love.

“He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]” (Hebrews 13: 5, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

This is an emphatic promise for each of us. God, omnipotent Truth and Life, is declaring to us that we will always belong to Him, always be at one with His power and goodness.

There is no exception to this statement. The voice of the Almighty doesn’t add any ifs, ands, or buts to His guarantee that He will always be with us—fully, actively, assuredly. God won’t leave us without a recourse, without wisdom, without guidance and support. We are the very ideas of God, the object and expression of His own qualities. We can no more be separated from all that God is than He can be separated from His own Being, His own Allness.

Let’s recognize that God is holding on to us and release ourselves to His mighty and loving hand. Let’s surrender the belief that we are fearful mortals and gratefully yield to God’s ready support—His loving awareness, right here and now and always, supplying just what we need. His provision is at hand and His Love will not, will not, will not ever let us go!

“Now I am happy, not because you had such sorrow, but because your sorrow led you to repent. For you were sorry in a godly way, and so you were not hurt by us in any way. For having sorrow in a godly way results in repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regrets.” (II Corinthians 7: 9-10, International Standard Version)

Repentance is healing. It renews us, restores any sense of lost innocence. It leads us to our natural freedom, with the bonus of wisdom, humility, understanding, and strength.

We all go through trials of our faith. We find ourselves making mistakes, being less than we would want to be. This is growth. We are all children learning what is right, sometimes through trials, sorrows, and missteps.

But as we willingly repent—change our thought through an awakening to Truth, to God, good—we are able to move forward. We leave behind the wrong way of thinking, for a purer perspective, one that is more sincere, meaningful, and restorative.

Washed in God’s Love, we have no regrets, for all that has come before has only led us to know better our unbreakable oneness with our Father-Mother—a connection that has no blame, no shame, no condemnation.

We can gratefully rejoice in the repentance that saves us each day and leads us to even more fully feel Love’s ever-present embrace.

“All praises belong to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he is the Father of tender mercy and the God of endless comfort.” (II Corinthians 1: 3, the Passion Translation)

The Father that Jesus revealed to us is not only mighty, but also perfectly loving. This Mother-Father of us all is one with Whom we can always be ourselves, turning to Her in times of trouble not only for wisdom, but for tenderness and affection.

God never runs out of mercy and comfort. We never tire Him out or frustrate Him. God is always ready to show us that we are loved, and how we can even better feel that love by knowing Him and ourselves better. Each moment of confusion or fear or self-doubt is an occasion to experience even more of the pure Father-Mothering of God, good.

So, let’s praise Him for this, and for all He does for us. Let’s stop blaming others or God Himself when we feel lost or lose faith. Instead, let’s remember Who God is—the Truth and Love that Jesus showed us—and be willing to be humbly blessed and caressed by this ever-present, perpetually comforting, Father-Mother of us all.

“Open my eyes [to spiritual truth] so that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law. I am a stranger on the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me.” (Psalms 119: 18-19, Amplified Bible)

We all may feel at times like we are strangers on earth. We may experience uncertainty, or feel put of place, untethered, or unaccepted. We may believe that we are misunderstood, or that that our perspective is different than the norm. Perhaps we are uncomfortable in a world that seems too cynical, too fast-paced, too dark.

We can turn to God and feel our true sense of belonging. The spiritual Truth is here to assure us of what is right and good. God’s law announces the beauty and harmony and peace that we yearn for, that feels like home to us.

God’s commandments, His Law of Life, is not hidden from us. It is the very voice within that truly wants to believe that all is well, that weare worthy and deserving of good. And as we humbly turn to this law—open our eyes to God’s Truth and allow it to instruct us, moment by moment—we begin to see wonderful things unfold in our experience.

We no longer feel like strangers on earth, but instead know that we are a necessary part of God’s glorious creation and are ready to live and share this universal good news with all.

“If you are generous with the hungry and start giving yourselves to the down-and-out, your lives will begin to glow in the darkness, your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight.” (Isaiah 58: 10, the Message Bible)

Generosity of spirit and action gives a powerful energy to our lives. As we open our eyes to the needs of others, looking beyond self with an expanding vision outside of what is comfortable and familiar to us, our lives take on meaning and glow with light.

We each have so much to give out of our natural hearts of love, that spirit within us that God has generously given to us. We have the richness of God’s own qualities to share with others, humbly, and to receive what naturally comes of gracious giving.

We may feel led to literally give to the hungry and those who are going through hard times. This may mean offering provisions or simply giving another a sincere moment of our time and care. We find light as we see light in others—as we see the dignity and goodness of all, as we know the worthiness of one another.

We can bask in the sunlight of taking another into our prayers, consciously, seeing them as God sees them and knowing that He is caring for all, loving each with the very love that He is also loving us.

Taking off the limiting shroud of ego and fear and putting on this mantle of light, we find true joy in being an active participant in and witness to God’s grace in every place.

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” (Jeremiah 33: 3)

We may feel in the dark about our future. Or we may know exactly what we want and are struggling to see it come to pass, growing impatient for results. It’s natural to want to push for what we envision for ourselves, to want to see the evidence according to some picture in our minds.

But God’s true purpose and the way it must unfold is much greater, mightier, more wonderful. We can let go of our limited way of approaching things and call unto God. We can do our best to let go of any fixed conception of what is right and best for us. We can release a sense of need and worry and fear and turn to God with humble willingness to be surprised.

We can’t know all, and human theories and material presentations will never give us a clear picture of God’s fuller purpose and beautiful design. As we stop fixating on what we think we know and are willing to let God reveal what He knows about us and our lives, we begin to see beautiful ideas develop, new horizons open up, and blessings appear that we could not have outlined.

We can know that God is Love and that He is Life. Calling on Him with trust and expectancy, we can gratefully enjoy what He is revealing, just for us, today and into our bright tomorrow as well.

“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (John 14: 18)

Release yourself willingly to this assurance. Jesus was telling his followers and us today, that while he would leave the human experience, the comforting Christ would always remain.

This powerful Christ comes to us. We don’t need to go in desperate search of peace and comfort from other humans. It isn’t out there in some distant future or lost in our past. We have the very presence of God with us, and this shows itself in the Christly touch that knows what we need now and is able to bring it. Tenderly. Gently. Powerfully.

When grief would engulf us and fears would seem to rob us of our peace and rest, we can turn with humble expectation to the arms of divine Love. The Comforter comes to us with the assurances we need, the inspiration that can break through the clouds, and the energy that can enliven us to move forward with grace and expectation.

This Comforter is always coming to us because it has never left us. We are simply awakening to the eternal, abiding presence of active, infinite, Love.
