“Life and goodness are immortal. Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight.” (Science and Health, p. 246)

We have a choice. We can opt for the right view of Life, rather than the untrue and unkind one that might want to claim our attention and trust.

Life and goodness are immortal—they are of God and have no end, no limit. And within these infinite qualities we find beauty and clarity, peace and harmony, activity and strength. These traits are as eternal as God, and as the very evidence and object of God, we naturally and necessary express all of them, always.

So, let’s know this and consciously shape our views of what life is and what it can be into what is true, real, and satisfying. Let’s stop buying into the premise that time can take away a single aspect of God from His beloved ideas. Let’s stop predicting our own demise and expecting the worst for ourselves and for others.

Instead, let’s take the perspective on Life as God caused it truly to be. Let’s recognize that each day brings a progressive unfolding of good. Each moment gives us an opportunity to see more loveliness and light in ourselves and in the world. Let’s open our eyes to this truth and enjoy the benefits of a viewpoint that is based on the everlasting Principle of Love.

“So then, whatever you desire that others would do to and for you, even so do also to and for them, for this is (sums up) the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7: 12, Amplified Bible Classic Edition)

It is so important to regularly revisit the Golden Rule. Jesus made clear that this was the very central idea of what the prophets before him were teaching and it was the core tenet of faith.

To remember to treat others as we would like to be treated is more than simply being a kind person, while that certainly is a valuable motive. It is the very undergirding law of being. It is God’s law, for it recognizes that we are all born of God, having the same Source, and that goodness and love are both inherent to us and desired by us.

This is Love reflected in love—God’s love felt in us and shared with another. It is being respectful of God’s children, which means being respectful of God. So, we can see another as deserving of the good that we would want for ourselves. We can stop judging others (or ourselves) falsely, as this is judging God’s creation, seeing the Almighty as capable of forming and expressing an idea that is unworthy.

To be conscious of how we would like to be treated and thought about is to awaken to a beautiful and powerful thing. It is to be aware of God’s own purpose in each moment, and so to both feel His love and to utilize it, without resentment or fear. It is to follow the very law that saves us and all.

“Return, you faithless children. I will heal your unfaithfulness. ‘Here we are, coming to You, for You are the Lord our God.’” (Jeremiah 31: 22, Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Here we are! We are the children of God, and we are led to recognize this and claim the benefits.

We likely have times when we feel less than faithful to God, to good, to a trust in Truth and Love. We find reasons to blame our Father and His children for challenges we may be facing. We rationalize our doubts and hold fast to our fears. We let our egos, our senses, and the opinions of the world take hold of us and control our attitudes and our lives.

But we are being invited, perpetually, to return to God. We can willingly, humbly, let any faithlessness be healed by the merciful Love of God. We can start fresh, as His children, ready to open our eyes to God’s reality, God’s peace, God’s true and harmonious creation.

We can gratefully release our worship of matter and self for the wonderful embrace of God’s presence. We can return to our true home as God’s children and His beloved.

“We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.” (Romans 8: 28, the Voice Translation)

I love the idea of God orchestrating our lives. It gives one a sense of a great conductor bringing all the instruments together to produce something amazing and harmonious, stirring and glorious!

This is what our Father-Mother is doing for us. We can be confident that as we accept His invitation to live in accord with His purpose—humbly aligning ourselves with His goodness and Love—we can bear witness to beautiful things unfolding. We can be a part of that divine orchestra, bringing out the chords each moment requires, with God’s wisdom and clarity behind it all.

Let’s stay expectant of and grateful for God’s ability to bring things to fruition for us. Let’s allow ourselves to yield to His plan, His loving composition, with all its comforting passages as well as surprising delights. Let’s know that we can listen and follow God’s guidance and feel the freedom, uplift, and contentment—both now and later—that His perfect orchestrating naturally unfolds.

“…unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.” (Daniel 4: 1)

This world-embracing blessing is one we can receive and put our own prayers behind. It is more than a wish for a peaceful earth. It is an inspired announcement of God’s own law and His perpetual promise for His creation.

In these days that seem so fraught with fear and conflict, it seems that this ideal is distant. But it is in fact God’s governing Principle and one which we can claim daily and see as possible for our planet—a revealing of Truth and Love for one and all.

We are one in God, so the discord and distance that seems to come between us is not reality. The varied languages, customs, cultures that humanity expresses can’t separate one of us from the other, or any of us from our unifying Source—divine Love.

And peace is the natural result of this fact. And it can be multiplied unto us all because God’s nature is infinite, and His purpose is unopposed. This peace of God never diminishes. It is never too late to see and feel this harmony, for it continues to fill our hearts and souls, leading us forward and upward to a fuller understanding that we are all God’s worthy and wonderful children, at peace in His perfect Love.

“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” (Proverbs 16: 3, New Living Translation)

Let’s commit. Let’s have a conscious devotion to what is right, trustworthy, powerful. Let’s do our best to stop wavering and waiting. Today is the day we can choose to truly commit our actions, our thoughts, our intentions to God.

God supports His purpose for us. As we actively think more of Him—of good, of Love, of Spirit and Truth—our lives take on meaning and our motives are clearer and better. If we want our plans to succeed, we really must release them, in service to God, good. This means that we have to put our lives in the hands of the One Who knows us, Who put His purpose within us and made us to succeed.

This isn’t about willfully deciding that we must march forth in any endeavor, be pro-active, and go forth no matter what. It is about releasing our personal hold on what we think we should do and how we should do it. It means that we stop outlining how things must unfold, and instead let God do the revealing.

Each action, each step, in commitment to God, has a light in it and with it. It brings into bearing His infinite power and reveals His wisdom. It allows us to rejoice each day in the steps we are taking, enjoying the progress, and relishing new inspiration and direction as God lovingly provides.

“The human capacities are enlarged and perfected in proportion as humanity gains the true conception of man and God.” (Science and Health, p. 258)

How do we better ourselves? What is the best strategy to perfect and expand our abilities and talents?

We can certainly use various means of teaching and practice to gain success in a particular endeavor and to feel more adept in achieving things we desire. But we can gain so much more naturally and with more precision of purpose as we pursue a better understanding of God and our relationship with Him.

An approach that looks at what seems humanly possible, with its biases and limits, can’t reveal the infinite and glorious capacities that we discover through Spirit, God. Leaning on God to show us what He is capable of, what He wants for us, takes off the limits and expands our thinking. And we realize, as Jesus did and taught us, what is truly possible for us when we rely on our oneness with God.

We find that our endurance increases, inspiration is heightened, qualities emerge and blossom that the ego would have denied as possible for us. And as we proportionately—as individuals and as a race—begin to open our minds and hearts to a greater power than ourselves, we can enlarge our lives and bring out more of God’s wonders, progressively and naturally.

“But in the day that I’m afraid, I lay all my fears before you and trust in you with all my heart.” (Psalms 56:3, the Passion Translation)

It may seem like trust is difficult to do when we are feeling afraid. And yet, as we choose to rely on God in these challenging times, we discover hope, light, and calm.

Rather than allowing our fears to overtake us, to be held to and justified, made even larger and more real, let’s lay those fears before God. What does He make of these fears? What does He do with them?

Well, as infinite Mind and perfect Love, those fears are nothing to God. He dissolves them with His presence, and we come to learn that we are actually safe and strong and ready to bear witness to good.

The psalm speaks of trusting God with the whole heart. This isn’t about rationalizing our fears to God and crying out for Him to help us, while also somehow believing we, or the situation, are beyond His help. God is greater than our fears and greater than what we believe we are afraid of.

He is All and He is Love. Our hearts really do know this deep within, and we can trust our hearts to surrender the anxiety on the day that we are afraid, and to let God show us His perfect new day of gratitude, freedom, and true peace.

“When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16: 7)

What does peace really mean? Is it winning our way over another, doing battle until one gets his way? Or is true peace found in a mutual understanding that harmony is right, good for all, and ultimately satisfying and sustainable.

Peace may feel elusive in our lives and in our world. But we have a starting point in our own thinking and actions. When conflict appears, we can begin with God and our relationship with Him. As we look to God to discover what is true about us and another, and act in accord with this law of goodness and Love, we find peace within ourselves. We are surrendering our own battle, our own will, for what God is guiding us to do and has made us (and all) to be. We are His representatives, obeying His direction and showing forth His qualities in true justice, respect, selflessness, understanding.

And so those we may feel are our enemies no longer seem to be so to us. We see them as fellow children of God, and our thoughts and behavior reflect God’s light, that healing glow of Truth that even those who may seem against us can also feel and yield to.

When we please God by accepting the identity that He created, we naturally have the power of Love in us and we can witness the healing, peace-bringing results in our lives.

Daily Inspiration, April 30th, 2024

“For the time is coming when men will not tolerate wholesome teaching. They will want something to tickle their own fancies, and they will collect teachers who will pander to their own desires. They will no longer listen to the truth, but will wander off after man-made fictions…Go on steadily preaching the Gospel and carry out to the full the commission that God gave you.” (II Timothy 4: 3-5, JB Phillips New Testament)

It may appear that we are in these times. The world may seem to respond to what is more materialistic, more personally pleasing, what supports their own desires over what is truly pure, right, good for all.

The Truth may ring hollow with those unwilling to receive it. Many would rather stay with what is familiar, cling to their pride, cynicism, anger, and divisiveness. They may respond to the allure of going along with the crowd. They may be driven by the need for acclaim, attention, and accumulation.

The lie of life in matter can be mesmerizing. But we can stay awake. We must stay awake. The falsehoods and those who seem to promote them or buy into them, do not change the fact that the Truth is true, alive, powerful, and so much needed.

Let’s refuse to listen to those who shout the loudest and instead hear what our hearts are telling us, that pure and potent Truth within us. Let’s live and share this Truth of God and His Love fearlessly, joyously, and generously.
