“The great spiritual fact must be brought out that man is, not shall be, perfect and immortal.” (Science and Health, page 428)

It is vital that we recognize and actively own up to this fact! The spiritual Truth is not a wish or a hope. It’s not a biblical idea that is lost in time or which awaits us in some other experience.

God is spiritual. He created us out of His own qualities, to show forth His Life and light. His children are not, nor have they ever been, mortal. God’s offspring are naturally and necessarily like Him. They are—not shall be—immortal and perfect. That’s the only possible effect from the Cause that is God, eternal good.

We must bring out this great spiritual fact. We must stop thinking of ourselves as limited mortals and living out that unfounded lie. We must daily, perhaps hourly, honor our true selfhood—spiritual, whole, immortal. Now, not later. Today, not yesterday.

See yourself as God made you. Begin with a true sense of yourself as spiritual, not material; immortal, not mortal; perfect, not flawed; and stand firm in this fact. Let this Truth inform your experience and rejoice in the light, healing, joy, and peace this brings to you and to your world.

“You are like that illuminating light. Let your light shine everywhere you go, that you may illumine creation, so men and women everywhere may see your good actions, may see creation at its fullest, may see your devotion to Me, and may turn and praise your Father in heaven because of it.” (Matthew 5: 16, the Voice Translation)

You illuminate your world. The way in which you reflect God’s qualities and express His intention, brightens all around you, bringing goodness and healing to wherever you are.

Know this is true and lean into it with all you have. Let your natural light shine and don’t let it be darkened or hidden by your beliefs about yourself or others’ thoughts about you or about life. The Source of this light is God, and you have it to share as you accept its presence in you.

God’s radiance awakens us to the glory of His creation, and we are part of this, cooperating in it harmoniously and productively. Let’s remember that as we are shining this light—not personally or willfully, but willingly and humbly—we turn others toward God, towards the boundless good that is available for all to feel and enjoy.

Shine on!

“Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.” (Micah 7: 8)

We never need to give up. We are not victims to hate, to fear, to circumstances, to time, to mortal life and its trials. We are God’s own beloved, made to thrive and to grow. God is always with us to show us why we truly can’t be beaten, why we are worthy of winning.

So, we can look at who or what seems to be enemies of ours and be strong in our conviction that evil can’t win. There may be times when we fall or falter, lose hope or feel doubt, but these moments can’t keep us down. God’s light is in us and with us. His encouragement is more than a pep talk. It is an infusion of Life—of the reality of our being—into us, to revive us and inspire us.

Those dark times are not a sign of our end. They may be pauses for reflection—perhaps in order to consciously let go of our ego or of our belief in vulnerability. In these trying experiences we can take a breath and know that we can’t be kept down when the Almighty is always lifting us up.

“Whatever is governed by God, is never for an instant deprived of the light and might of intelligence and Life.” (Science and Health, page 215)

God is governing us. The wisdom and control of God is over all. No matter who we are or where we are in our experience, God is with us, actively.

Our God is goodness and Love. He is light and is always expressing this radiance. His brilliance is not selective. It simply beams forth with guidance, insights, uplift, affection, vitality. This light and might of God is universal. It is infinite and intimate.

We belong to God and are under His divine authority. We simply can’t for even a second lose the light of God or be deprived of His power with us and for us. The law of God is oneness. This unbroken law means we are inseparable from God, and His Truth and Love are always right where we are. There is no lapse in Truth. It is forever present and ours to feel and live.

God’s intelligence and Life are always ours. His ever-presence is filling the place where we may doubt and fear with the light the shows us that we are safe, well, and never alone.

“But the good man—what a different story! For the good man—the blameless, the upright, the man of peace—he has a wonderful future ahead of him. For him there is a happy ending.” (Psalms 37: 37, Living Bible)

Let’s settle into the right story of our lives. Let’s be clear that we can have a happy ending—not to mention a pleasing chapter right now.

Our future is bright because we were made to shine. Our human story may want to tell us we have reasons to feel unworthy, ashamed, less than clean and pure. But we have the right and capacity to expose that false narrative and to begin to live the Truth of our innate goodness, our natural uprightness, our true innocence.

We can recognize that our true nature is what God caused us to be. We can stop getting distracted by a human concept of ourselves as limited, vulnerable, blameworthy in some way. We were made to express God’s goodness. We were created with all the qualities necessary to think and behave with integrity.

We are One with God and therefore with all mankind. We can realize and live our calling to be peacemakers—to settle into our own goodness and to promote harmony in our world. We can help bring out God’s story, the one with a happy ending for all.

“None will harm or destroy another on My entire holy mountain, for the land will be as full of the knowledge of the Lord as the sea is filled with water.” (Isaiah 11: 9, Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Let’s hold to this promise. It proceeds from the lips of Truth, from God’s own authority, and is backed by His omnipotence. We can release our fears and know that human ignorance and cynicism, doubt and blame, can’t keep God from being All or from being Love.

Nothing can harm us on this holy mountain—this elevated perspective of wholeness, peace, and goodness. There is no destruction in this true perception of God’s creation and its harmony and perpetuity, made in God’s image and likeness. We can lift our thoughts and open our hearts to this assurance of goodness for all. We can trust that the reality of things must appear.

The land—the earthly concept of life—must surely be filled with the Truth which is ever-present. The limited sense of being must yield to the reality of God’s governing goodness and His loving control.

This heavenly reality is everywhere. It fills all space. We can open our eyes to this true knowledge and be ready to see God’s beauty and glory in every place—right here, right now, and over our whole precious earth.

“It’s impossible to disappear from you or to ask the darkness to hide me, for your presence is everywhere, bringing light into my night. There is no such thing as darkness with you. The night, to you, is as bright as the day; there’s no difference between the two.” (Psalms 139:11-12, the Passion Translation)

God is light and He is ever-present. And God only sees what He knows, what is real and eternal and right.

Darkness has no place nor relevance in God’s Allness. The night hours or the dark days may bring fear to us, doubt, uncertainty. But this human misperception is changed through the enlightened awareness that we are not alone. God, the very light of Life, is right where we are. God’s Love is actively filling every moment and every circumstance. We can’t escape this light. We can let it lead us, heal us, save us.

We may feel we don’t want God’s help or that He isn’t capable of helping us. But we are always God’s beloved, and He will persistently find us right where we are, even in our darkest most faithless hours. He will show us that our own belief in the shadow of night can’t stop the dawn from breaking upon us, waking us to the light of goodness and the vitality of life.

“…sin didn’t, and doesn’t, have a chance in competition with the aggressive forgiveness we call grace. When it’s sin versus grace, grace wins hands down.” (Romans 5: 20, Message Bible)

Let’s not let sin cause us to fear and to doubt. Let’s not cower in the face of evil and agree to believe that this mistaken view of ourselves and of God, is powerful and harmful.

Sin—an unnatural and untrue belief in separation from God, good—can seem to cause us to feel we are irredeemable, that we have lost our sense of worth. We can succumb to a sense of guilt over mistakes—past and present—and feel that this lesser sense of self is our cross to bear, the limited life we must live.

But grace abounds. And grace is a force to contend with. This tender, present, love of God does not back off in the face of sin, in the face of evil thoughts and deeds. Grace comes with a vengeance, so to speak, to restore our concept of ourselves to what God caused us to be, to cleanse us of sin and the fear of it, and to show us our good life.

Sin is not of God, so it has no power. Grace is God’s own Spirit making itself known to us. It is invincible and relentless in actively bringing us home to peace, purity, goodness, and Love.

“Make your life a prayer.” (I Thessalonians 5:17, the Passion Translation)

What a powerful thing to do! Living life as a prayer is actively, intentionally, bringing healing to our world. It is that conscious connection with God that brings the power of divine goodness and love to light in our human experiences.

This verse tells us not only to take time for prayer—for those quiet alone times seeking and discovering God’s Truth for us—but to pray with our being, with our living, at all times.

How do we do this? I think it is first by wanting to. It is by yearning to understand what it means to be aware of God’s presence, listening at all times, and letting what we are hearing and feeling guide us in our actions. So, we are not only thinking about God, we are also behaving in ways that resonate with His qualities, His purpose, the goodness that our conscientious prayers is revealing to us.

The noise of the world and our own mortal thinking can try to distract us from living this prayer. It can seem like a burden, and yet it is in fact so freeing. Living life as a prayer is releasing Life to God. It is allowing ourselves to be who God made us to be, and humbly, willingly, gratefully, letting God show us what is right in each moment.

It takes commitment, but it can feel so rewarding to be a living prayer—living testimony to God’s Life, His Love, His Truth, His beauty, His goodness, and His boundless saving grace.

“He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” (Psalms 147:4-5)

God understands all. He is, in fact, All. God’s full consciousness of Himself is the very substance of the universe. God made All, and He is Mind, so He is always fully aware of His infinite creation.

This intimate knowing of each concept, each star, each individual, is our reason for peace and trust. The full expanse of the skies, every celestial body, every creature, is named—formed, seen, known, loved—by God, the Father and Mother of All that is real. We are all as brilliant and beautiful as the stars, and each of us is needed to make God’s creation complete.

God’s understanding is beyond what the ego can grasp. But as we release that personal sense of a little self alone in the universe—misunderstood, confused, limited, fearful—we find that we are one with All creation. We begin to progressively glimpse more and more of God’s Truth. We come to gain a sense of what it really means to be an essential expression of God’s intention, His powerful and loving and eternal Life made known.
