Being Free Now

“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.” (Psalms 51: 12)

Dear Father-Mother-Life, we turn to you with expectation and gratitude. You are our answered prayer and the renewal to our bodies and our lives. You never fail to be the substance and continuity of who we are and what we are able to accomplish and experience. It is because of Your infinite Truth that we are saved, that we not only have a continually renewed life, but also a full joy that can’t be taken from us.

God sets us free with His own Spirit, infusing our lives with every right quality and capacity that is His own nature, and holding us in a place high above the darkness and limitation of the senses. We are always on the receiving end of a refreshing. We are always at the ready for the bounty of God’s blessing and His constant reminder that we are His—perfect and perfectly loved.

Let us be like the Psalmist—quick to turn to God and expectant of His answer of harmony and peace. Let us be ready for joy, poised for a laugh, prepared to be awakened from the nightmare of false beliefs with a relief that we are just as we always were—alive, innocent, free, the accurate reflection of Soul’s beauty, serenity, and energy. Let us recognize and accept that we are saved from needless gloom and ready for glory! Amen!

“But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.” (Job 23: 10-11)

Our divine Mind knows where we are and where we are going. Our tender and mighty Father-Mother-Truth is always leading us in His way, by His wisdom, and with His Love. Even those seeming challenges that would confront us along our walk of life cannot fail to purify us, to make us stronger, and more clear on our real desires and our true nature. We are tuned up, shined up, and true precious stones under the Master’s hands.

We can trust His revelations, the directions He is giving us, and cherish each moment of progress. We can allow our feet to walk or to run according to the pace at which He is guiding us and moving with us, without fear and without weariness. This is not merely perseverance or stamina or stubbornness. It is about love. Our love for good and God’s love for us means that we rejoice in where we are and where we are going, because we do it with Him, with Love.

Each step with God is a triumph. Each battle is an opportunity to recognize our oneness with infinite power and the presence of divine wisdom. God knows our way, our whole life, for He knows us—who we are and just why He faithfully loves us. He will not fail us, so we cannot fail Him, but continue to honor Him with our obedience, our trust, and our love for Him, for Love, and for Life.

“Both Science and consciousness are now at work in the economy of being according to the law of Mind, which ultimately asserts its absolute supremacy.” (Science and Health, page 423)

The Truth of being is keeping every detail of our lives in order. The law that is divine Science in action has loving and wise and impeccable control over all that is our experience. We are participating in that grand design through our willing and inspired consciousness. Our trust in and reliance on that law of love cooperates with that Science, proving that which is infallible and right and abundant with goodness.

The Christ-consciousness that has dawned on human thought is at work now and progress insists on bringing out the highest ideal, showing earth the nature of heaven and its presence for us here and now. That Christly standpoint knows the Father-Mind, accepts the wisdom that is law, and yields the willful human sense to the restful prosperity of Soul.

Everything is working in our favor. Goodness is right now available, active, assertive. The right thing is the very thing we have. The human thought can give up its wresting, arranging, contriving, planning, fretting, and fearing. The divine Mind is the one intelligence—creative, productive, and loving. This is our consciousness to reflect and to rest in, ours in which to flourish and to be at peace.

“There is to-day danger of repeating the offence of the Jews by limiting the Holy One of Israel and asking: ‘Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?’ What cannot God do?” (Science and Health, page 135)

Is there anything that God can’t do, that the infinite Almighty cannot express, and that He has not already done? Nothing has reality, presence, or power but what our Maker has created, and He has created perfect good, perfect wholeness, absolute harmony and unending abundance. He is the omnipotent and He is ever-present and always active, alive as our very Life, and the keeper of heaven. Everything is possible to Him.

Will we “offend” Him just as those in ages past, limiting Him with human conditions and giving matter the power to impede infinite Truth, Spirit, Principle? If we accept God as our God, then we must accept that He is capable of All, and that All is for us, for good, for Life, for the perpetual expression of His own ideal. His presence is our provision. His Love is our health, safety, and perpetual peace.

Let’s refuse to be doubters. Let’s take on that childlike yet wise expectation that is delighted but not surprised when perfect good, the perfect solution, the resplendent table in the wilderness of human darkness emerges to provide for us, to save us on every side, to brighten our life. Let’s remember that our God is not a god that is partial or occasional. He is everlasting Truth that is everywhere and here to be seen, felt, known. Let’s stand in expectancy and in thanks. What cannot God do? Amen and hallelujah!

“Legally to abolish unpaid servitude in the United States was hard; but the abolition of mental slavery is a more difficult task. The despotic tendencies, inherent in mortal mind and always germinating in new forms of tyranny, must be rooted out through the action of the divine Mind.” (Science and Health, page 225)

The tyranny imposed by mortal mind needs our righteous warfare. We must rise up against the error that would call us slaves to fear, to limits, to a material body, to age, to time, to temperament. Keep alert to those sometimes subtle despots who would rob us of our natural and inherent peace. We were born free, born of God’s grace and His love, and nothing can change that fact nor ever has.

We certainly can oppose with our prayer and with our determination those things that would attempt to classify members of society as second class citizens, less worthy of success, of safety, of peace. We can be activists against that which does not seem principled or right. But, let’s be sure our activism doesn’t stop there. We must yield our thought to the action of the divine Mind, recognize the true and loving control of God, and of the Life which that necessarily brings to all His children.

Let’s be our own advocates. Let’s recognize that those enslaving voices and opinions– our own and others–that would shut us in, confine our possibilities and depress our hope, are not legitimate rulers. They cannot usurp God’s power or challenge His benevolent law. We are alert to these unlawful challengers to our Life, and we are ready to claim and assert our freedom and freedom for all mankind!

“Let us rid ourselves of the belief that man is separated from God, and obey only the divine Principle, Life and Love. Here is the great point of departure for all true spiritual growth.” (Science and Health, page 91)

It all comes back to this. It all comes back to the original premise, the first commandment, the primary ideal, the one defining law of life. There is only one God, one Mind, one Life. Man is necessarily at one with this Life, an idea of this Mind, subject to this pure and perfect Ego, and thus permanently safe, secure, and satisfied.

If we are to live the Truth of being that displays our heaven before us and within us, we must give up the false premise, the lie of a life that is separate from and reaching toward God, good, heaven, bliss; or that is, alternately, moving away from innocence, peace, perfection. We must start rightly to end rightly. We must accept the Truth with gratitude and joy, and so reap the benefits of standing on the grounding of fact, of law, of certainty.

This divine Principle of Life and living is simple, basic, easy, and natural. There is not God and us. There is not Spirit and also material objects. There is not Life divine and material life confined in a body separate from Love and subject to arbitrary laws. There is God, the One Mind and Life, and we are always with Him, in Him, expressing out from His intention, the object of His Love and the proof that He is All and that He is all good.

“Spirit and its formations are the only realities of being. Matter disappears under the microscope of Spirit.” (Science and Health, page 264)

Spirit constitutes all that is, that was, that can be. Everything is made up of the distinct and perfect elements of Spirit and forever express and retain Spirit’s qualities. Limitless Life, indestructibility, timeless beauty, harmonious function are the constituents of being. The spiritually good, pure, and right, are the real, the substantial, the true.

Let us take up with gratitude that “tool” that gives us clear vision, insight, perfect perception of the facts. The “microscope” of Spirit, Mind’s view of His own creation, sees infinitely and will never uncover a flaw nor limit, no part or particle of life that is not caused with a purpose and consistently fulfilling that loving intention. Organic life, atomic structure, and its finiteness and variableness will never be seen if we look through the lens of Truth.

We can know and love the fact that no matter whether we look out to the stars, or into the depths of the molecules of life, we will never find matter there. It must naturally disappear because the qualities of Spirit swallow it up. Where infinite Life is, finite life cannot be. Where unlimited activity and beauty exist, deterioration, ugliness, stagnation and aberration cannot be. We are true Scientist. We know how to use the tools and rules that have been given to us and to prove the forever fact that God, Truth, Spirit, Love, is All and within all. Always. Here. Right now.

“…one cannot suffer as the result of any labor of love, but grows stronger because of it.” (Science and Health, page 387)

A labor of love comes with all of divine Love’s power behind it, as well as Love’s assurance, comfort, and care for us as well as for our good work. When we put our heart into an effort that intends to bless, we truly can’t suffer for it. The world, or the various wrestlings of mortal thought, may suggest resistance, but those arguments and accusations can’t be damaging to us or to our righteous cause.

The presentation of weariness and discouragement and fear as well as physical discomfort, can be rejected as unnecessary and unreal. We can trust the divine energy and intention, God’s own control and expectation and so we can continue to believe in what we are doing and in ourselves. We mustn’t allow the sense of time constraints and the beliefs of stress and limitation to cause us to forget the most vital element in our work—our love.

That very love, that affection for good, is a protection and a power. God’s Love for us fuels that which we love, feeds us with inspiration, and defends us from harm. We can persist in what we are led to do fearlessly, looking to our heart daily to remind us of the love we have for what we do, and for God who gave us this purpose and is faithfully carrying it out.

“Selfishness tips the beam of human existence towards the side of error, not towards Truth. Denial of the oneness of Mind throws our weight into the scale, not of Spirit, God, good, but of matter.” (Science and Health, page 205)

Selfishness is an imbalanced way of thinking and living. It puts us on the wrong side, distancing us from that which is enriching, powerful, right and true. Being selfish is not simply about humanly caring for ourselves over others, working always for our own purposes or goals, or even simply “looking out for number one”! It is also a way of thought and behavior that would deprive us of accepting our natural blessings.

Selfishness rejects reality, security, and peace. It denies the oneness that is Mind and His idea, and proposes minds many, actions and behaviors at odds, and a need for self-preservation. But this perception of things is totally false, and so it doesn’t work. It chafes against harmony, attempts to divide the indivisible. It is like trying to separate the idea from its own nature which can’t be done.

Let’s recognize that selfishness is not only thinking only of ourselves, but it is also NOT thinking of God, not allowing Him to be the Mind that He is, the Life that He is, the Love that He is. We are selfish when we cling to human will and a human sense of control, as if we know righteousness better than Truth itself.

So, let’s allow the true balance of being to show forth, yield to God’s oneness and goodness, and discover just how satisfying this unselfish thinking and being is for us and for all!

“Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need…to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good.” (Science and Health, page 494)

Wouldn’t the very first human need that divine Love would meet be the seeming need for love? God, Love, is always supplying us with the very right and perfect thing to cause us to feel cared for, safe, and satisfied. We can awaken to the fact of God’s presence and Love’s necessary action of loving. Nothing can hide this faithful Lover from us. We are always receiving the kiss of approval and affection from our One and Only True Love.

Every moment of every day divine Love is supplying Love. And perfect Love knows just how to love us—not obscurely or at a distance or without full attention. God is always near, a companion, a caretaker, a voice of cheer and uplift, a caress of understanding. Let’s recognize this forever active divine Love. Let’s accept that no material and delusionary sense of aloneness, loss, or inadequacy has ever stopped God from being present and true.

Divine Love supplies all good for all. Every seeming human need is already met, because the sense of need is false to begin with. Right here and right now, God’s Allness, potency, perfection, harmony, peace, life, completeness fill all space, your being, and there is no inch in your experience or in your heart that is not already filled with divine Love.
