Daily Inspiration, April 12th

“We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.” (I John 3: 14, 15)

Any lack of love is a killer. Anything less than a loving regard for our brothers and sisters, our kindred of God’s own family, is deadly to our expression of life and its fullness and completeness and peace. Let no sense of hatred abide in your thought. Uncover it and cast it out as if it were a poison to your system, a threat to your well-being or to those that you most love.

Eternal life, a living Life, can only be found in God, Who is Love. Where love does not abide, life is lacking, less seen. We feel depleted, defeated, and unlike our true selves, because, in Truth, we have a natural and abiding love within us, and it extends to all. This love is of God, so it is unconditional and it sees reality, rather than ignorance, personal sense, fear, human confusion or delusion. God’s eye sees the truth of His children, and we, with the heart of Love guiding us, can see this, too. And then life is full, and fully expressed.

God, Truth doesn’t condone misbehavior, unrighteousness, selfishness, or hateful acts among His children. He does not leave those things untouched and unpunished. Love obliterates the belief in separateness, in ignorance, in misunderstanding. It reveals the presence of harmony, always intact. Let us truly live by loving. Love God and His Truth, and know that there is nothing unloving or unlovable in Him. Every idea must necessarily and naturally be worthy of a living, life-giving Love. So, let’s celebrate everlasting life and be full in our love for God and man, ourselves and our own lovely and lovable lives.

Daily Inspiration, April 7th

“I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” (Psalms 27: 13)

Without hope, without faith, without expectation of good in our lives, we would surely give up. Without this natural and ever-present encouragement of Truth and of Love, this vision of victory, we would continue to live a lie, a life of doubt and cynicism and fear. But this is not our fate. We do believe. And Christian Science opens up to us the forever fact that not only is there a heaven, but that heaven is not something that awaits us in some elusive hereafter.

We can “see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” We are able to perceive and experience God’s creation in our lives, here and now, even in this limited concept we call earth. Jesus came to tell us this, and the forever-assuring Christ delivered the good news to the Psalmists centuries before. Our confidence is in this. We know that we can persist, never give up, and rejoice even when the way isn’t perfectly clear, because we know what we know. We know that Life is God and that His presence and power and love is more than a hope. It is reality.

So agree to and accept what you know to be true, what Truth itself has written in your heart: God is All and His goodness is here and now to be realized. Let this be the staff that keeps you from falling, and the light that keeps you from going into the sleep of discouragement. Our God is actively claiming us, renewing us, expressing His Life through us and His Love to us, right here, right now. Believe and rejoice.

Daily Inspiration, April 5th

“The adult, in bondage to his beliefs, no more comprehends his real being than does the child; and the adult must be taken out of his darkness, before he can get rid of the illusive sufferings which throng the gloaming. The way in divine Science is the only way out of this condition.” (Science and Health, page 371)

Being “all grown up” doesn’t mean we are done learning or that we are magically expected to know everything about who we are and what our life is about. Human maturity and experience doesn’t bring us any closer to God’s Truth, the blessed understanding of our eternal and sweet relationship with our Father-Mother-God. We must be willing to be instructed out of the darkness of doubt and fear and burden and into the heaven of our true inheritance.

We are children forever. We are always God’s own ideas, cared for by Him, fed with His ideas and His love, never the leader of our own lives, but always the led, the shepherded, the little dear one in God’s understanding embrace. Let us know that we, just like the children that we are, can join our fellow youngsters in discovering that there is nothing to be afraid of, that the darkness of mortal life is no competition against the smallest light of Science, the Truth that guides and reveals harmony, peace, power.

Let’s not get too big for our britches. Let’s show ourselves the mercy and understanding we would a little child under our care, and be willing to listen and learn, pride quelled and questioning heart expectant of answers. Let’s be willing to give up a sense of personal responsibility, shame, blame or discouragement, and simply listen to our divine Teacher, joyous in the fact that we are always safe with Him and we are always being led to our rightful, bright, beautiful home.

“And the Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.” (Exodus 14: 15-16)

God’s voice is not timid and questionable. It is not a word to ignore or disbelieve. When He urges us forward, to lead, to give, to move out of limit and fear, we have the necessity and natural ability to follow. There is nothing standing in our way. There is nothing too broad or too rough for us to traverse in order to walk in Love’s purpose and perfect result.

We are given the tools to pursue the highest good and to honor and glorify God, good, Truth, in doing so. We have that Christly discernment that can divide the false from the true, and so move forward fearlessly rather than standing transfixed by a sense of obstacles. God beckoned Moses to believe in God and in Himself as God’s expression, rather than whining about what couldn’t be done. Moses trusted and obeyed and a sea of promises opened up for him.

“Just do it!” was the divine demand. Just trust that right stirring that urges us out of self-pity, complacency, and timidity, to the point of utilizing very naturally those gifts of Life and Love that have the power to part waters, open blind eyes, and set us free to claim our promised land of peace, joy, and power.

“The only power of evil is to destroy itself. It can never destroy one iota of good.” (Science and Health, page 186)

We must keep attuned to evil’s true nature. The character of evil is flawed. It has no God in it, no Life in it, no Truth to it. Nothing about evil has ever had a real quality that can infringe upon good, upon reality, upon God’s design and purpose and the substance of our grand lives. Evil is not even a temporary power. The belief in mortal mind and its lies does not make it an active entity ever.

We are safe. No sense of evil can overwhelm or impede the protective and preserving activity of Spirit, of Love. Truth endures and is enforcing itself. The presence of active goodness and Love and Life is the necessary absence of anything that would deny it. There is nothing destructive in the Mind of God, the Creator. That which creates, does not destroy.

Goodness is as eternal as God, as the rightness of an idea in His Mind. No quality of God can for an instant be lost because of a lie about it. And the only quality that evil possesses is self-destructiveness. It simply cannot be something when it is nothing. It cannot be presence when God is omnipresence. Any destruction that seems to appear to us can only be error disappearing. The seeming flames and fury do not singe us or any one of God’s right ideas, dwelling in the sanctuary that is divine Love.

“O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.” (Psalms 71: 17-18)

We have had God’s presence with us since the beginning. He has been faithfully instructing as and we have matured in strength and understanding. We are daily gaining more awareness of His goodness, through every challenge and opportunity, through each new inspiration and victories small and great.

Our youthfulness has celebrated the exuberance and eagerness and innocence of children of God, those who enter into life with wonder and delight, ready to learn and without the strain of doubts, fears, and material education. We remain these children, these learning and leaning ideas, yet perhaps with more wisdom, a broader view, and a greater compassion through our experiences. We remain God’s dear little ones, fresh with promise, and approval and He remains faithful to us forevermore.

God does not see age and deterioration, loss or damage. He grants to each idea a newness that is His own nature, expressing itself naturally and necessarily. In this continued vitality He expresses, we prove Him. We prove God’s presence, power, and sustaining grace through all time and to all people. He never forsakes us, and in Him our youth is mature and our maturity is youthful. His love towards us never changes, and so we are always safe and saved, preserved and adored.

Daily Inspiration, March 22nd

“Before deciding that the body, matter, is disordered, one should ask, ‘Who art thou that repliest to Spirit? Can matter speak for itself, or does it hold the issues of life?’” (Science and Health, page 181)

Let’s take a pause and ask these questions when discord seems to appear physically or in our experience or that of the world. Can matter, which has no Mind, no Truth, no creative power at all, decide our condition, distort our beauty, disturb our natural and God-given peace? Is there Life in that which is finite, without consciousness, without Spirit, which is Life?

The sense testimony that would try to come to us as a problem with a probable cause, a possible diagnosis, and some likely prognosis, is not reasonable. It doesn’t present something that must be accepted and then dealt with. Instead, we can turn to the voice of Truth, the presentation of Spirit and its eternal testimony, and deny the testimony of that which is mindless and loveless.

We are not pushed around by matter. We can’t be mesmerized by a powerless thing, a nothing claiming to be something. We are the children of God, of Spirit. We can take our stand without fear or doubt and with perfect confidence against the false testifier. Our condition is what God sees and knows and what He feels. Our body can only experience what Truth creates and affirms: perfection, ease, comfort, normalcy, natural function, loveliness, and Life that is as limitless as Spirit.

“Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.” (II Corinthians 8: 11-12)

We can do it! We have enough knowledge and enough substance and enough awareness and enough energy to do what we are called to do. Our readiness of mind and our heart’s preparation by God’s own nurturing is enough to set us well on our way. We are not lacking in anything necessary to do good. We are built for it, and it is only our agreement to it, our commitment and devotion, that is needed to go forth.

There is no need to focus on the negative, to be contemplating what we feel we ourselves lack or what someone else does not have. Our positives, the real qualities of God that we effortlessly and endlessly and uniquely possess and express, are what need our attention and gratitude and use. You are uniquely suited to do what you are called to do. Everything you have and everything you are right now is just what will get the job done.

We can dedicate ourselves to our heart’s desire, our inspired leadings, moment by moment, and see the possibilities and not the limits, the realities of infinite capacity and not the lie of limitation. God has blessed us with wonderful attributes, His very own, and they are sufficient to achieve grand and great and satisfying things for Him and for all.

“Jealousy is the grave of affection. The presence of mistrust where confidence is due, withers the flowers of Eden and scatters love’s petals to decay.” (Science and Health, page 68)

We have no reason for anything but confidence. We have no cause for jealousy or envy or anything that would mar that sweet and tender relationship with Love and Love’s expression. We must be alert to the subtle suggestions of error that would attempt to talk us into playing devil’s advocate against our own lovely life.

While we may not always find every individual’s behavior absolutely trustworthy at all times, we can know that we are free of any false influences, free of the need to rise to the bait and to follow suit with reactions that do not dignify either us or God. Divine Love is trustworthy, and always has each of its idea’s best interests at heart. No one is at a loss for love because of another’s actions. We always remain within the infinite affection that is spiritual Love, and so we can be calm and listen for the guidance that settles, satisfies, and heals.

Jealousy is unnecessary and suspicion and mistrust do nothing but hide from us our own peace and the gifts that are constantly abounding toward us. Let us not be preoccupied with doubts about ourselves or about others. Instead, let’s dwell faithfully in God’s Mind, as the welcome occupant of His own loving thought, and know that in that place, all are equally loved, equally watched, equally assured by promises that are always kept.

Daily Inspiration, March 15th

“Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” (II Timothy 1:9)

The promise of our salvation and success comes from the lips of Truth. God’s perfect and precise intention for us was set forth in the beginning, when He first created All and found it good, right, done. This identity and purpose has been ours forever. God made us to glorify Him and the Christ came to reveal that fact to us, to show us our calling that can’t be drowned out or obstructed.

We have heard our name announced by Love. We have claimed our inheritance as children of God, and we are urged forth and protected in our cause by divine Life itself. It is not because of what we have done, or even what we want to do, that we are able to succeed and prove His grace and goodness. It is because God’s plan is without flaw or failure. He knows what He is doing with us and for us, and He has established us as His own immortal evidence.

This holy calling of ours, this beckoning to be good and to do good, is not something we must earn or work toward. It is not about sacrifice and toil, but it is simply being who we already are, as God’s own expression. We prove Him because we are the evidence of His allness and goodness. Our love of Love is our calling and this very love is also our guarantee that we are able to do what He requires, to fully please Him, and to be truly satisfied.
