Being Free Now

“I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.” (Psalms 17: 5)

Wake up to your identity, your beauty, your perfection. Wake up and take a look at yourself by turning toward the Original, that which you reflect in every intricate detail and without flaw or lapse. This is our satisfaction and our delight—to awake each day knowing just what we look like, just how completely wonderful we are.

God’s qualities are yours. We know ourselves by knowing Him. He is Love. He expresses perfect tenderness and no resentment or fear. He is Life. There is nothing in him that can deteriorate or diminish for He is eternal, and His substance endures forever. God is Spirit, so He is without limits, without restrictions, without any conditions upon freedom of movement, perfection of structure, form, and capacity.

We do not need to wait to awake to this likeness. Our full satisfaction can be claimed now. We have never stopped being the very image of His nature and the apple of His eye. God is always expressing Himself as our very being. We are always just like Him, always right in every detail, and so we are lovely and lovable, this morning, every morning, and all day long!

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4: 24)

God is Spirit. He consists of spiritual qualities, eternally right and infinitely expressed. We worship Him, obey Him, discover the truth of His grace, when we recognize and love the qualities that are His. We do not worship Him rightly if we think of Him as a mighty man in the sky, or even as some celestial being that has human reactions and limited capacities for understanding, power, and goodness.

We must worship God rightly. As we love Love, so do we love God and all that He is. As we listen for and practice this true and pure love, so are we obeying God, being true to Him, and thus knowing Him even better. There is nothing limited about our Father-Mother. His presence transcends geography and time. His Principle is not swayed by praise or blame. It stands certain and right and changeless in its unopposed reign over all things.

We must worship God “in truth.” We must come before Him, knowing He is Truth, Life, and Love, and be honest with Him and with ourselves. We must be true to who we really are by knowing Who He really is—the Father and nature of all that is real. We must and can come to feel His presence by knowing His character—limitless, active, tender, powerful, spiritual Love.

“For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?” (Hebrews 12: 6-7)

Our chastening, that admonishment and seeming suffering that may come to us, is not a cause for doubt or fear. We are never out of God’s care. We are a child beloved of our Father and therefore, this Father requires our perfection, our happiness, our peace and rightness. He knows what we need, and He knows what He made as well as our absolute ability to carry out such a high standard.

So, that punishing sense that may come when we stray from His intention is our reminder that this is not the way we need to go. That chafing and roughness and discomfort that comes when we are not right on track, is not sent by God to harm us, but is the natural result of wearing a coat that doesn’t fit, being untrue to ourselves, and so feeling wrong, disturbed, unsettled.

God’s love is our salvation from the wrong and our preservation as we walk through the apparent trials of discovery. Because He is our Father and the greatest, purest, truest Love that there is, we are always being diligently watched, encouraged, awakened to wrong, and at the same time being given that which is true and right and lasting for our good. We are sons and daughters of infinite Wisdom. Mind would not allow His offspring to wander off course, to be less than true to His ideal, the ultimate satisfying and satisfied idea that is Love’s own child.

“We cannot fill vessels already full. They must first be emptied.” (Science and Health, page 201)

To think we can add a spiritual sense of ourselves, the good and pure and right qualities to a mortal sense of self, full of darkness, fear, anger, and gloom, is folly. There is no room for the abundant wonder that is the truth of your being to be confined to such a limited space. We must empty our vessels, and do it with willingness and joy.

To give up the false sense of personality, human history, and sense perceptions, is to give up everything that is holding up your life, your happy and perfect life. We must see and see through these preoccupations, the mesmerizing sense of ourselves as less than worthy, less than beautiful, less than successful. We must abandon the self-judgment, condemnation of self and of others, and the mourning over our lives.

Let divine Love’s ocean of love flood in and carry off all the detritus of human beliefs. The junk that gloms up our thinking and our days, causing us to ruminate, lose sleep, lose focus, lose joy, is ready to be carried away. And with this acceptance of Love and rejection of the false sense of ourselves and others, we are lighter, freer, more right and more real. We have cleaned our house of everything that never belonged to us or suited us, so that we can have a bright and clear space, already beautifully arrayed with those qualities that look and feel right to us and to those around us.

Let go with joyous expectancy of a personal sense of yourself, and so discover your true self, emptied of fear and doubt and sickness and full of the Life that is Love.

“Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection.” (Science and Health, page 424)

The perfect governing care of God, of divine Providence, leaves no room for anything accidental, anything that is not in accord with His design for His Life. God made all to be perpetually perfect and His watch over all leaves nothing to be lost or disturbed. He is faithful in His control and nothing can interrupt that perfection and harmony.

All is the substance of God. Everything is made of His qualities and by His intention. There is nothing abnormal, out of sync, out of control, or random about the quality of His Life, our own Life, all there is and can be. Divine action denies any mortal contrary action. Perpetual creation denies the opportunity for destruction. Perfection is the law and the permanent condition of all.

There is no chance occurrence, no circumstance or accident that can disturb being. God does not turn away and allow for evil to sneak in and alter His goodness. He can’t be separate from His thoughts, the very nature and quality of the universe. Any rupture to the integrity of perfect being must be seen for what it is: a mistaken perception of reality. There are no accidents. Everything God made is orderly and right and under control and remains so eternally. Our divine Providence is kind, loving, ever with us to bless us with goodness, safety, and perpetual peace.

“If you wish to know the spiritual fact, you can discover it by reversing the material fable, be the fable pro or con, –be it in accord with your preconceptions or utterly contrary to them.” (Science and Health, page 129)

The spiritual fact is the exact opposite of the material lie. Matter has no mind to create, so it can only lie about the Truth. But even the lie can help bring us the facts, the peace, a resolution, for we can discover the Truth by reversing the lie, by revealing the divine antonym that continues to be the true definition of being.

Where lack would appear, we are always able to claim the inverse, abundance. We can see and realize the presence of this Truth in spite of what seems appears to be. We can trust that active Truth in spite of what our past experiences may have led us to believe. The law of God is always the living good that is really going on. Likewise, we can take any false sense of deterioration, of sickness, of confusion, and see in its place the spiritual fact, the very opposite. And so, we can immediately claim wholeness and permanence, health and life, wisdom and clarity, because these qualities are forever true and forever and now ours.

So, let the error or evil that may appear be an occasion for celebration! It is a blessed and God-protected opportunity to get an even clearer definition of what our life is truly about, and so to live it. It is to stop living mythically and start living majestically!

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalms 19:14)

Heavenly Father, I would obey you in all things. I would honor you with my words and my heart’s intents. I want only to the living expression of your Love, your rightness, your Principle of being. I will listen and respond as you guide me. I will assure that every word dignifies you, and that my quiet thoughts and prayers are free of self-righteousness, fear, doubt, and false responsibility.

The psalmist’s prayer is ours to utilize, for we, too, know that God is our full strength, our ready redeemer—the One that keeps us safe from harm and Whose love always sets us free, brings us home. So we pray that we are pleasing to Him, that our own prayer, our treatment of ourselves and others, is according to His highest design, His Truth, His Principle, His own promise and expectation.

And we can assure that our prayers and our lives are aligned with Love’s own law by consciously claiming that we can do and be nothing less. We are God’s own image, His reflection, and He is our Mind, our Life, the one Ego that is always clear, and right, and powerful. So, we honor Him in our words and in our hearts because it is divinely natural for us to do so, because we simply can’t do anything else. Our prayer is His word already written in our hearts, His light already glowing there, and His healing impulse always and already meeting every need with precision, power, and peace.

“Whatever is material is mortal. To the five corporeal senses, man appears to be matter and mind united; but Christian Science reveals man as the idea of God, and declares the corporeal senses to be mortal and erring illusions.” (Science and Health, page 477)

Sense testimony does not communicate accurate information. The appearance of man as a material structure with a personal material mind inside, called brain, running things, knowing things, feeling things, does not correspond with the true spiritual testimony about man, about you and me. God is Truth and there is no other.

Christian Science unveils man as he really is, as our acute spiritual senses attest. The spiritual reality of ourselves that God is constantly announcing to us as our very being, does not argue with the material senses for a place of authority. It stands as the uncontestable truth of who we are and how we are. The material senses waver, wonder, wander, question and doubt. They have no solid voice or factual basis on which to rely.

Matter can’t be intelligent, can’t be Life, Truth, or Love. For God, Spirit, is all those things solely and exclusively. And so, the material must necessarily obey the spiritual facts, for immortality defeats mortality, infinitude defeats finiteness, and divine Love rules and conquers all.

“We must look where we would walk and we must act as possessing all power from Him in whom we have our being.” (Science and Health, page 264)

We must keep the true destination before us. We must stay focused on where we want to go, where God is beckoning us, and take each step forward with steadiness as well as energy. When we remember that our aspirations are after Truth and peace and not after material things or reaching some human goal for happiness and success, we walk with God and our steps are sure.

Our whole life is in God, so when we settle into this presence and glory, we are right on track. Life is calling us into its joys, its peace and satisfaction and productivity. Knowing this and accepting it, we can see more clearly what is before us, and what can willingly be left behind. We can recognize and utilize our calling, for it is daily singing us forward, encouraging us onward, and touching the lives of those around us, even when we are not conscious of it. Being at one with God’s purpose is power. And it satisfies.

Act as if that power is yours, for it is. We can’t simply know the Truth of Being and continue to act as if we are weak and wandering, sick and sinning. We must claim and utilize the power that we possess through our oneness with God. We must move in our goal rather than toward it–marching in God’s goodness and love with vigor and expectancy, sure of Life because we are sure of God and His presence, certainty, and love.

“God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains:” (Psalms 68:6)

God, divine Love, has assured us that we will never be alone. He has set us in families, brought us together through love and common heritage of good, to dwell together and to experience true freedom, unchained to a mere human sense of life and love. Spirit does not create material lineage, nor limit us by this sense of blood ties, genealogy, or even geography.

We are set in families, united with those of like heart and mind, and those may or may not be human family members. God knows what we need and who we are. He has made us to His own standards, to express His highest purpose, and to prove His Father-Motherhood of all. As His children, solely, we are fathered and mothered with the tender and effective and protective love that provides us with every human need.

Our human families may be loyal till the end, may always be with us in purpose and intention. And, even if they are not, we can certainly love them because they have been a part of our lives and one of God’s own children. But, we may leave our mothers and brothers and sisters and fathers, as Jesus said, to follow Christ, Truth, and be loyal to what goes deeper than blood in us. As we do this, we will never be left without companioning, care, closeness. Our true family must necessarily be with us, for Love does not separate, it unites.

You will never be alone, deserted, or orphaned. Your Father-Mother-God has kept you in His family faithfully, in His heart which is pure Love. All the love there is, is right here with you in that happy home of His!
