“With tender humility and quiet patience, always demonstrate gentleness and generous love toward one another, especially toward those who may try your patience.” (Ephesians 4:2, the Passion Translation)

Gentleness and generosity are such beautiful qualities. They are so healing because we are expressing God’s own nature as we treat one another with lovingkindness and care.

It may be easy to feel an overflow of good toward those whom we love or those who we feel are deserving of our attention and affection. It may be more difficult to remain gracious and tenderhearted toward those why try our patience, who seem difficult for us to get along with or who we believe behave in ways that we don’t approve of.

But we can’t pick and choose. In fact, those individuals who challenge us may very well be the ones who most need our love. And in our gentle kindness toward them, we give ourselves the gift, too, of feeling God’s love unite, rather than divide us.

This love must be genuine, not superficial. We must express these qualities with tender humility and quiet patience. It isn’t just what we do. It’s how we do it.

Let’s lean more on God and His Love. Let’s discover the freedom of humility and act towards others with sincere kindness, quiet sweetness, and loving respect.

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” (Psalms 100:4)

Let’s approach thanksgiving as if we are walking through a glorious gate, being invited in to experience something wonderful. It isn’t only about the holiday rituals and gatherings, although those can be lovely. It’s about consciously coming into that beautiful space of gratitude.

And this we can do every day. We can come before God, Life, Truth, with a sense of honor and awe. We can look around us and within us and discover the Love that is truly the very substance of all that is. We can recognize with spiritual eyes open, the treasures that are ours to enjoy and to share—those gifts of beauty, inspiration, generosity, humor, honesty, integrity, compassion, goodness.

These wonderful qualities and so many more emanate from God. They are His own nature being made known.  Through our thanksgiving for these attributes that we see expressed, we awaken to the greater good that may seem hidden. We see possibilities to grow, to help others, to love better and to receive love more graciously.

We are always welcome to go through the gates—into that beautiful palace that is God’s kingdom, His place of peace and joy, of unity and harmony. Giving thanks openly and in our hearts is the password to enter and enjoy God’s bounty and to share it with all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

“And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.” (II Samuel 23: 4)

God’s light dawns with gentle beauty. It touches us and our world with tenderness, but with generative power. God’s Truth brings life to each day and natural light to the darkness.

This cloudless morning is ours to which to awake. It is today. The sunlight of Love’s ever-presence is glowing into the open windows of our hearts. We can receive the reviving good news gratefully, willingly, joyously.

We can recognize that God is ever with us. The goodness is greater than the gloom. The Truth outlasts and outshines the lies. And any storms we may seem to have encountered in the night of confusion and doubt, become only times of cleansing, causing new inspiration, new resolve, new opportunities to grow and to sparkle like sunlit dew on fresh grass.

This day is new and ours—full and beckoning us to embrace it and to share its promise with one another.

“Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.” (Colossians 3: 2, the Message Bible)

Let’s consciously choose the Christ-perspective. Let’s stop trudging along from gloom to gloom, plodding through challenges with an eye to just getting through the day.

Instead, let’s raise our heads and uplift our thinking. Let’s be, as Jesus was, expectant that each moment was alive with goodness, healing, progress, peace, and joy. Let’s take in the glory that is really at hand when we are awake to it.

Walking along with our heads down, thinking constantly of self and feeling the burden of such thinking, we miss the freedom of release—that surrender to the divine Life which leads us to new ideas, opportunities to be helpful and healing, and to ultimately realize what life is truly about.

We can see the good in one another. We can stop looking around with fear and paranoia, and instead engage with life and with others with trust, openness, an expectation to learn and grow, to give and to receive.

This is not merely passing the time. It is filling it with good which brightens our days, lightens our spirits, and gives us a reason to continue to look forward to each new dawn.

“Each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love.” (Science and Health, page 66)

Successive means following in order or in uninterrupted sequence. The word has its origins in the word for succeed, success.

So, let’s take this statement to heart. Let’s remember that instead of moving through time, through years and material influences, we are actually experiencing an uninterrupted flow of good. We are progressively succeeding in seeing more of God’s nature, more of the Truth, learning more about Love and how to feel it and live it.

These stages of life are not marked by decades or by phases of human growth and decline. That story of life is one built on false foundations, built on a lie. The true story of our lives is the one in which each period of Life awakens us to new views. Day by day, hour by hour, the eternal fulness of God’s heavenly reality is revealed—in us, around us, for us.

Our precious and eternal living gives us new opportunities each day to see more of this goodness, to perceive progressively, successively, successfully, what Life has to offer and why each moment glows with promise, perfection, peace.

“In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.” (Matthew 5: 48, the Message Bible)

We are citizens of God’s kingdom. This brings rich blessings and also responsibilities. If we are to be protected by God’s law, we must obey His law, live according to His principles and purpose.

And such living brings us peace within and peace with one another. We can look to God’s qualities as our guide. He is Love, Truth, immortal Life. His expression is abundant and limitless, proceeding from Love and embracing all. God created us to show forth His goodness, and to be living proof of the true Spirit of Life.

So, let’s grow up. Let’s stop being tempted to act like toddlers, wanting what we want and whining if we are not the center of attention. Let’s be childlike but not childish. Let’s have that gentle heart that is willing and ready, innocent and open, but also mature enough to consciously choose to do what is kind, right, generous.

Let’s be true to God and to ourselves. Let’s receive God’s saving grace and express that grace toward one another freely and gratefully.

“Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; God probes for what is good.” (Proverbs 16: 2, the Message)

If we are satisfied with only what is superficially good, we are missing what is most right and real. God’s light goes deep, revealing what is good and true and at the same time exposing the false, the flimsy, the ultimately unsatisfying.

Let’s allow God to show us who we are and who others are. Let’s stop looking at surface appearances to decide what is valuable, who is worthy, what will truly be pleasing and healing. Let’s listen to God’s Word and begin to see with our spiritual senses which look past material evidence to perceive the Truth that sets us free.

God alone can judge what is good, for He made what is good. The physical sense of beauty, or substance, or worthiness in individuals and in our lives can’t report the Truth. They can’t see the presence of Love and Life in its true fullness and immortality.

Let’s not be satisfied with what the senses report or what society praises, and instead let’s awake to something deeper, more meaningful, and truer. Let’s allow God to show us the genuine beauty and peace and joy that go beneath the surface and beyond appearances, and which are forever here to behold and to cherish.

“Then let God weigh me on a truly balanced set of scales. He will know and see my integrity.” (Job 31: 6, the Voice)

The world may judge us by appearances. We may judge ourselves by what we feel we’ve accomplished, compare ourselves to others, or rate and berate ourselves based on our past and its learning experiences.

But we would do better to seek a more balanced consideration. We can turn to God to show us who we really are. He is able to see past our egos and fears and to see into our hearts. God’s perfect Mind, His flawless judgment, sees us clearly. He can discern our true integrity and motives.

God can also see where we may be out of balance with our own highest selfhood, with the idea that He made. Instead of condemning us for this loss of spiritual poise, He helps us see what is weighing us down, and lifts that false sense of self away, cleanses us of what is not helping us shine and flourish.

God sees us truly and knows our real innocence. Whatever the world would say about us or what we may hold to, even cling to, as true about ourselves, is not allowed to remain in God’s scales. We must settle into balance with God’s purpose, and feel that true peace of being good, whole, loving, and beloved.

“Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness.” (Colossians 3: 16, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

Absorb the loving, saving message of the Christ. Consciously allow that already-present, always-active Truth, to be accepted into your mind and heart. Recognize the sweet reality of your oneness with God, good, and embrace it with gratitude and gusto.

This word of God which Jesus declared and demonstrated is constant and active. We always have this fact of being with us and in us. It is inherent in us for it is our heritage—one that is rich with life, with joy, with peace, with the powerful love of Love.

Let God’s word make its home in us. Let that Truth of us replace any long-held beliefs about life and about our own identity. Allow this good news to cast out and cancel out the sense of a damaging past or a fear-filled future. The Christ makes us new. It refreshes us with new energy and a vision of things as they really are—full of light and life, full of goodness and grace, rich with the rightness of reality.

“Be imitators of God in everything you do, for then you will represent your Father as his beloved sons and daughters.” (Ephesians 5:1, the Passion Translation)

We have it in us, innately, to think and act rightly. We are children of God, and we can naturally represent His nature, express His qualities, in our daily lives.

It behooves us to remember what we stand for. Do we walk through our world showing forth God’s light, representing Him and His goodness and love actively and thoughtfully? Do we think and behave like the sons and daughters of God in our interactions with others and even in the way we think about ourselves?

To be children of God means we have in us the holy purpose to perpetuate goodness and love, to be the radiance in dark places. When we succumb to darkness or perpetuate it, we are denying our Father-Mother. We are denying our true and most natural being.

So, let’s consciously do as God would have us do. This is not pretending to be something we aren’t. It is yielding to our real selfhood as the beloved and bringing that truth into everything we do—in the small tasks as well as the greater mission to bring light to the world.
