Being Free Now

“Behold, the Lord thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 1: 21)

We have been given the land. Our inherited expanse of fruitful goodness is ready for the cultivating, the reaping, the utilizing. We are able and required to claim possession of all that God has given us. What He has directed us to do, what has been put into our heart’s devotion, is at the ready for our use and enjoyment and for the blessing of the earth.

Don’t let mortal mind stand in your way. Don’t let the world’s constant cautions and conditions or your own doubts and fears prevent you from laying claim to that magnificent land, that Promised Land that you rightfully possess. When we have been given an idea, a talent which really satisfies us, a direction that feels right and healing and good, we can move forward in it. We already have its seed, and the full flower only needs our loving watering and our grateful acceptance.

This is not an invitation to stubbornly and willfully barrel along in a human purpose at all costs and with no wisdom. It is divine Love’s comforting and right guidance, which tells us that we have nothing to fear in moving with His direction, and that the very thing we go to possess, is already ours because we have God, Love. Don’t be discouraged. See your land and own it! Run toward your heart’s purpose, frolic in its promise, and enjoy its beauty and the grace of God that makes it grow!

“’Let there be light,’ is the perpetual demand of Truth and Love, changing chaos into order and discord into the music of the spheres.” (Science and Health, page 255)

Truth and Love are persistent. They are continuously demanding revelation, the light that enlightens thought and lightens burdens. Soul requires harmony and will not abide discord. Principle requires order and will not allow chaos to have presence or power.

The light of Life shines on the false sense of randomness, confusion, and fear, and reveals that harmony and serenity and goodness have always been there, established and reliable. Every participant in this grand symphony of Life, must necessarily obey the divine Conductor, and demonstrate the true glory of each idea’s purpose and potential.

The perfect Mind Who directs all, knows the song because He wrote it and has absolute control over every note, every sound, each small detail and the whole sweeping opus. Discord under God’s hand becomes perfect harmony, a swelling majesty that is beautiful in each part and is a perfect masterpiece in its wholeness and oneness. And so every idea must and does blend, and with a music in which every star in the whole infinite universe must naturally participate flawlessly while expressing that eternal theme: Let there by light!

“Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it.” (Science and Health, page 57)

The whole world is our valentine! The true Love that is divine is always embracing every idea in that pure affection and protection. That real Love is always at hand to make us happy and to cause that joy to uplift those in our presence and those upon whom our thought rests. Happiness is a radiant quality which is never out of reach because Love, God, is extending Her welcome to us every moment.

We can claim, relish, and rest in that spiritual Love that transcends the material sense of love that is personal and limited. Human love can include selfishness, resentment, jealousy, anger, fear, possessiveness, and neediness. But, it is neither a creator of happiness, nor can it really take happiness away. Our true joy is born of spiritual Love, of the Truth of Life that is not material, limited, or personal. This divine Love which is ours at all times does not vary or vacillate, play games or cause pain. It is always comfortable and uplifting and unconditional.

Our true Love is here and is full, and we can share it willingly without losing anything. Infinite Love can’t be confined or defined by something as small as human terms. It is transcendent, and yet, because it is Love, it is accessible, real, and free to us. When we awake to this ever-present spiritual Love, we can see it and feel it everywhere, in and for everyone. We will be the living valentines we are, a walking box of candy and bundle of roses, unable to hold in that happiness that is bursting with Love’s healing love!

“All that God imparts moves in accord with Him, reflecting goodness and power.” (Science and Health, page 515)

God, divine Mind, is expressing all there is. He announces being, and all life is that which accurately evidences His qualities and glorifies His name. What He imparts– what He communicates and bestows–is always at one with His Principle, in perfect agreement with divine Truth and Love. Nothing can contradict His Word nor interrupt its expression.

God’s ideas are all in sweet concord with Him and so with each other. All that He sees fit to share, every idea formed of His own perfect concept, moves with Him. No individual can step away from His intention nor stay still as He moves forth. Likewise, no organ or function of being can be impaired or limited in its natural movement, progress, action. All ideas move freely and with Mind’s tender purpose.

Goodness and power are found reflected naturally by all. Truth causes all to act with freedom and rightness, harmoniously and timely. God’s beautiful and perfect rhythm is evident in all that He causes, in the life that we live, as well as in the functions of the body and our relations to others and to the world. We are God’s own impartations, His wonderful ideas, and so we move as He moves, right with Him, and having the ease and radiance that Love requires and naturally reveals.

“We cannot fill vessels already full. They must first be emptied. Let us disrobe error. Then, when the winds of God blow, we shall not hug our tatters close about us.” (Science and Health, page 201)

The old and ill-fitting coat needs to be given up. The familiar yet never satisfying way of thinking about ourselves and our lives needs to be surrendered, cast off, and seen for the shroud it is, hiding our magnificence. We have to empty the vessel that is full of memories, limited views, and a false sense of a personality that may be flawed or lacking and yet we feel is our cross to bear. We are better than this.

The Love of God must be allowed to fill that vessel of our own thinking and being. This powerful substance needs to be accepted without condition, reservation, excuse, or argument. It must be claimed because Principle demands it. The false and limited can’t have a place in infinite Truth and Love. So, we need to assertively clear ourselves of the charges against us, and start with a clean slate on which Life can write our true story.

The winds of God must blow. His powerful grace must chase away the errors of sense so that He, our own true Soul, can be fully seen and felt. We must be willing to let go of ourselves. We must be willing to let go of a personal sense of what we are and who we are and where we’ve been and what are prospects are. This false cloak calling itself personality, heredity, human experience, physicality, isn’t keeping us warm or beautiful. Give up with glee the necessity to hold to that human ego as if your life depends on it. In Truth, your life, your true potential, gloriousness, peace, and power, depends on you giving it up.

“Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.” (Isaiah 52: 2)

This divine directive is a promise. We can shake off the dust of a life dimmed by material beliefs, the dirt of past experiences and mud slung at our innocence. We need not remain captive to or captivated by the darkness of mortal life and its gloomy, dooming lies about us and about our world.

Brush off that dust. You have never stopped shining. You are not bound by human mistakes or victimized by life and its deceptions. You are a daughter of God, a son of the Holy One. You have ever been protected by the divine affection and preserving power of Love. There are no chains weighing you down and no ropes keeping your freedom at bay.

Loose yourself, Isaiah says. We have the natural ability to cut ourselves loose and to arise to our full and flourishing and free being. The bondage is not legitimate, so don’t plead guilty. We are ready to arise from the paralyzing dream of hopelessness and fear, and to really live. We are given the invitation to “sit down”—to take a load off our lovely lives and to rest comfortably in the knowledge that our freedom is not optional. It is the law, here, now, and always!

“For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” (Proverbs 3: 26)

Relax. Trust. It is not by human confidence or bravery that we are kept safe from harm. Even when we are uncertain of others and of ourselves, God, the Almighty, all-knowing, ever-present Love is our sureness, steadiness, security. Nothing can take us out of God’s strong care. We are always at one with His greatness.

So we can trust ourselves to His guidance and His conscientious awareness. The divine Mind doesn’t miss a beat, lose His footing, or falter. He does not retreat or run away in the face of trouble. God, Truth, handles each challenge without hesitation. And we are protected by His wisdom, power, and the infinite nature of His Love.

For, in Truth, our foot cannot be taken. Our own sureness and confidence in life cannot be taken from us, for we walk in Love. It is the very air we breathe, the ground on which we walk, the place in which we dwell, and the substance of our own being. Love allows for no trap, no hidden evil, no danger, no loss or failure. Divine Love has our back and always has. God has our progressive lives well in hand. He is sure. We can rest in His confidence, let fear flee, and rejoice!

“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14: 2)

This is today’s reality and tomorrow’s promise. We have the welcoming invitation into a place that includes many mansions, a fullness of comfort and safety and beauty. We have our home designed by the Father-Mother, and the light of God, the Christ, is ever leading us to that right and ideal situation.

Jesus gave this promise to his followers, for he was so acquainted with divine Love, the oneness of son to Father, that he was certain of the grandeur that God has prepared for all. Our mansions are no less lovely than Jesus saw and experienced, and they are always suitably comfy, well equipped, and fitting our needs and our unique vision.

And it is lovely to realize that there are many mansions for us. The right home, position, vocation, opportunity is not limited. We each will have many palaces, many roomy spaces and experiences in which to move, to learn, to grow, and to cultivate our goodness and our understanding. We have much each moment to be grateful for and just as much to look forward to. We needn’t get complacent with our lives or afraid of change. God has mansions ready for each of us in this moment, and is actively preparing us for the next satisfying delight.

“The truths of immortal Mind sustain man, and they annihilate the fables of mortal mind…” (Science and Health, page 103)

Truth is our sustenance. Divine Love is our safe place, our substance, and the refreshing fullness of our lives. These infinite truths that are the thoughts of immortal Mind are the makeup and continuity of our being. They are facts of Life and they are inarguably, agelessly, imperatively true.

These Life-affirming truths are laws of being. They are self-assertive and self-enforcing. These thoughts of God, thoughts of good, are the present reality. They are what Life is constructed of, and the lies, the stories of mortal mind cannot influence them or change the course of Life as it is—immortal, perfect, changeless, good.

Mortal mind is that mind that thinks mortally, that believes in and clings to limit and finiteness. It is that thought which is full of death, full of fear, dark and doomed. And yet these mortal thoughts must be fables, for they do not come of the divine Mind, the one true and only Mind. Fables may attempt to portray an idea, to explain life and its mysteries. But they are mere speculation, without any facts to support them or evidence to prove them. The earth has never been flat, even though that proposition was believed. Man has never been mortal. He has always been sustained by Truth, maintained by Love, and ever free to express the reality of fearless and immortal Life.
