“A good man produces good things from his storeroom of good…” (Matthew 12:35, Holman Christian Standard Bible)

It surely is satisfying to be productive, to feel like we are making a contribution, creating something, meeting a need for ourselves and for others. We all have the ability to achieve, and as we work from a standpoint of good, with honorable motives, our work can’t fail to reflect that goodness.

To be that “good man” is to know ourselves rightly. It is to recognize that we are God’s ideas, made to express Him, to make His presence known by our own individual being and experience. We can do much good as we utilize what we already have.

We have a storeroom of good. This storeroom doesn’t consist of physical possessions or even personal ingenuity or educational achievements. Our well-stocked space is the abundance of God’s qualities which we keep at the ready, safe and cherished.

We can go to our pantry and draw out kindness, gentleness, lightness of spirit. We can go to the cupboard and find within a love for mankind, good humor, orderliness. We can open the door and see the light of inspiration flooding out, ready for us to receive and to utilize.

We have available all the things we need to produce good things, to live in accord with God, to feel whole and content, and to be the good men and women who we truly are.

“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” (John 3: 17)

Jesus came to share the Truth with us. He taught and proved what God was all about and what was real and right. He showed us the way to feel saved and whole, peaceful and happy, comforted and uplifted.

And at no time did Jesus’ message include judging or condemning the world, humanity. Instead of condemnation, the Christ was and is expressing Love toward mankind. The Truth has come to set us free, not lock us up with accusations of guilt or feelings of shame. God does not punish us. He loves us, and this love guides us out of wrongdoing and into what is right.

God’s Love, as the Christ so actively and perfectly revealed, washes us clean and opens our eyes to who we really are—innocent, good, full of light and joy. There is no condemnation from God for He would not condemn what He made.

The Christ saves us from a belief that we are judged or that judgement awaits us to the great realization that we are truly the sons and daughters of God. The Christ sets us free to claim that Truth and to live in accord with its sweet and saving message.

“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalms 118: 24)

What a wonderful way to begin our day. We can choose to consciously acknowledge that this very day was created by God. This morning, we can rise and step into an experience that was designed by God and is controlled by Him.

God’s day is one that is made of His very substance, formed from His intention, and which includes His qualities in action. So, this day, our day, is one to rejoice in, for it contains peace and light, goodness and strength, inspiration and creativity, comfort, progress, and an abundance of new ideas and opportunities.

And we are free to be humbly grateful and glad in this day. We are free to stay in this moment, awakened to trust and expectation, without the need to predict and fear what is to come. Today is God’s day, which means it is not one that we are in charge of, nor one that is all about us. It is a dawning goodness formed of God’s loving intention, proceeding from His infinite, unlimited Mind.

This day is like God. It is full of Life, light, goodness, power, energy, originality, and pure and perfect Love—for you, for me, for all.

“Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.” (Galatians 5: 7-8)

You are doing great! You really are! Keep up the footsteps in goodness and you will continue to progress. Don’t lose faith in yourself or in your convictions. That compulsion to give up on our values or to judge ourselves unworthy or incapable does not come from God. It doesn’t come from the One Who called you, Who knew you were ready to shine, to live, to succeed, to give.

It can feel easy to think that we’ve done enough and are tired of the race. We may feel that the challenges are too great for us or that it’s just easier to walk the path of worldly thinking, of negativity, of fear, of doubt, of guilt or blame. But these suggestions don’t come from God. They are not based in Truth. And you are greater than these discouraging and dark thoughts.

We can remember that on this course of growing in grace and Truth, we are not alone. We are not running on personal steam or wits. We are not reliant on human circumstances or other individuals. This good path we are on is God’s path. He is leading us, lifting us, guiding us. In fact, His Life and Love are our fuel, our inspiration, and our confidence.

Don’t give up the race. Do take the time to breathe and realize that each moment on this road gives us new views, new light, new discoveries, new reasons not only to continue, but to enjoy each sweet moment along the way.

“I would have you learn this great fact: that a life of doing right is the wisest life there is…the good man walks along in the ever-brightening light of God’s favor; the dawn gives way to morning splendor.” (Proverbs 4: 11, 18, Living Bible)

We can choose wisely. We can make it our purpose to live a life that is focused on good. Seeking to express God’s goodness to the best of our ability moment by moment, results in a worthy and wonderful life.

For when we walk in the light, as the light, we continue to see more of life revealed. Truth guides us forward, and instead of an experience that tapers off and feels small and dark, our pure hearts and good motives expand our life before us, open us up to wonderful new things and new opportunities to give, to learn, to love.

At any moment, we can choose this wise course. We can decide to challenge the allure of evil, unkindness, selfishness, materialism, fear, and instead walk in God’s intention. We can let in the light and allow it to glow more fully with each humble release to Love, each moment of willingness to follow God’s guidance and to walk along the ever-brightening, never-dimming, light of God’s favor.

“Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear, — this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony.” (Science and Health, p. 324)

To feel true harmony in our lives can mean releasing old attachments. We may need to leave our human past behind, with its various landmarks—those points in time and in experience that seem to make a mark on our lives.

We can cling to a past vision of self and of circumstance and bring them into today, using them as reasons for our behavior and choices going forward. We can grow attached to our fears and allow memories to loom large in our present moment. These beliefs can often stymie our growth or limit our opportunities to live more broadly and more freely.

But we have a choice to let go of those landmarks that are false—that are not accurate and reliable guides for our progress. A willingness to leave the past behind and to stop relying on beliefs that are not aiding us on our way, helps us to discover this available harmony and vitality.

And we can be so glad to do this! For when we move forward, with fresh and childlike eagerness and humility, there is freedom and joy to be found. Life looks new and we are ready to be new in it!

“…now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil confronting me.” (I Kings 5: 4, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

We are protected on all sides. We are embraced in God’s Love and guarded by His Spirit. There is no entry point for an enemy to get through. There is no vulnerable gate where evil can sneak in and attack us.

Let’s know that God truly does give us rest. This is a rest from worry and personal responsibility. It is a rest from ruminating or feeling defensive or victimized. We are surrounded by God, by good, by His peace. We can’t truly escape God’s presence, so our situation is always in the middle of good. God assures that our being is safe, because He knows us, loves us, and is the law of our lives, our good lives.

This rest on every side means also that we needn’t look behind us and feel that the past is full of unrest. Nor should we look ahead of us in fear of the future. The before, the now, and the later are all God’s place, His space of Life, and we dwell there. We can know this and let go of the feeling that there is an adversary, an adversity, haunting us or awaiting us.

We have comfort and peace on all sides. We have life in God right now, yesterday, always.

“…and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.” (Matthew 2: 9-10)

The wise men were told to seek out the savior, this newborn child who was said to be the Christ. Their wisdom was in looking up, following not their own personal beliefs or their reservations about this blessed event. Instead, they looked to the heavens and followed the star, believing that it was indeed a sign of something wonderful.

That star signified the light of hope and of salvation. These wise men, and the shepherds who would also gather around Jesus’ place of birth, were awake to something new. They went to discover what was going on and they let go of any skepticism about it. Instead, they rejoiced with exceeding joy.

As our Christmas draws near, let’s raise our eyes and our hearts to something precious and meaningful, hopeful and healing. Let’s stop looking at the earth for its predictions of gloom and doom, and let’s instead look to the heavenly guide—that continual Christ-light that can awaken us, and our world, to the Love that can save us.

The birth of the Christ is at hand. Let’s be willing to accept God’s guiding light leading us to where healing can begin anew and where peace can be found in that tender place where Love’s beam shines—in our joyful, humble, grateful hearts.

“Drink deeply of the pleasures of this God. Experience for yourself the joyous mercies he gives to all who turn to hide themselves in him.” (Psalms 34:8, the Passion Translation)

We can find comfort and sustenance in God. At any time, no matter what our circumstances seem to be, we can find safety in God’s tender and powerful embrace. We can recognize security and hear guidance, lose fear and doubt, as we draw close to God, hide ourselves in His qualities.

This separateness from the world, from human opinions, from our own argumentative, judgmental egos, can bring us a sense of peace. And, as we linger in this space with God, with divine Love, with Spirit, we can gain so much more. We can go deeper and really discover joy, a renewed sense of life.

We are being invited, freely, into this place of God’s presence, this consciousness of our oneness with God and all that He is. Here, we find God’s mercy washing us clean; His Love reminding us that we are children, beloved; His light leading us toward a true feeling of freedom, lightness, opportunity, even adventure.

This God, this good God, is ready to give us pleasures, treasures. Drink deeply. Breathe in His Life, and gratefully rejoice that He is always right where you are, ready to bless.

“As vapor melts before the sun, so evil would vanish before the reality of good. One must hide the other. How important, then, to choose good as the reality!” (Science and Health, page 480)

We do have a choice! Are we going to allow the fog of evil to obscure the sunlight of goodness and Truth that is constant and powerful? Are we going to accept that evil, darkness, fear are greater than God, good? Are we going to hide in the dark and argue for its reality? Or are we going to come out into the light and experience and share the good news of Life as God made it to be?

As we stop buying into and feeding the lies of fear and threat, gloom and doom, limitation and discord, we begin to see the dawn. We see that vapor as nothing at all, an illusion of darkness where light exists and reigns. Love is God and God is All. So, this Love exists in every place, at all times, where we are, now. Evil and hatred can’t be where God is. It simply isn’t possible.

So, let’s do our best to stop believing in the misty sense of life. Let’s stop seeing ourselves and others as stuck in some pit or as heading into one. Life is light, now, and for all. Choose to see it! Choose to be it!
