“God be merciful and gracious to us and bless us and cause His face to shine upon us and among us—Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!” (Psalms 67: 1, Amplified Bible Classic Edit

This beautiful benediction is meant for us. We can turn to God and expect this generous goodness to come to us, to lift us, to renew us, to comfort us, to assure us.

God’s brilliant light is always shining upon us. His Love beams at the ideas He caused, the children He created to express His nature, to make His glory known. We can receive this blessing each day. We can be ready to accept God’s mercy and grace, to release ourselves to His smile of approval, His tender encouragement, His guiding Truth.

Let’s not take this relationship for granted. Let’s really pause and think about what it means that God’s face is shining upon us and among us. Let’s calmly allow God’s Love for us to be individually felt. And let’s know that this powerful affection is with all—uniting us in one great embrace, leading us out of fear, anger, discord, and into our rightful purpose and true peace.

“Your lives light up the world. For how can you hide a city that stands on a hilltop?”
(Matthew 5:14, the Passion Translation)

We have God’s light within us. We have the bright flame of Truth in our hearts, and we can let this light shine in our lives.

We may feel that we aren’t doing much to make a dent in the troubles of the world or that our contributions pale in comparison to others. We may believe our own human challenges keep us from being good examples, from being upbeat all the time, and that we have too much doubt and fear ourselves to be that beam of light that this verse refers to.

But your life lights up the world not because of your human perfectness, but by your right desires. In fact, the more that we seek to be better, the more that light within gets reignited and its energy and reach expand. Self-doubt may seem to hide our lights from ourselves, but when we truly believe in goodness; when we consciously choose to trust God to lead us and teach us; when our motive is to be a blessing to others and to express love, our lives have a glow that can’t be hidden.

For this light isn’t our personal candle. It is God’s love in us, lifting us up moment by moment and making sure that His healing Love reaches others, reminding them of their own light and encouraging them also to share it without timidity, without fear, and with gratitude for its powerful Source.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]” (Matthew 11: 28, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

Don’t we all want some relief at times, a refreshment not only for our bodies, but for our souls?

We may get enough sleep or take vacations, but are we truly finding that sweet release from care that this verse is offering us, that the Christ is calling us to accept? To come into the Love of God truly causes us to lay our burdens down. It enforces a rest that goes beyond our human hopes for balance and peace.

We may feel like all we do is work, labor, toil and that it can be too much to handle. We may love our work but also feel that its productivity and outcome is reliant solely on us. We may be burdened with care for others—family, friends, even the well-being of our world.

But to come to Me—to the wonderful arms of God and His perfect power, love, and strength—enables us to let go of the ego’s fears and sense of personal control, and to realize God’s harmonious government of all. We can consciously choose to step away mentally from the anxiety and the willfulness and the pride, and humbly let God carry the load.

We can breathe, pause, rest, and find that refreshment and renewal that reaches our souls and brings us a new sense of life that is surely impactful, but no longer weary with care and heavy with a burden that was never ours to carry.

“And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.” (Mark 13: 37)

This is for all of us. Jesus may have been speaking directly to his disciples, but he made it clear that we all must watch.

What is this watch? Well, we are certainly watching again evil, against hate, against tyranny, against injustice. We are being alert to the subtle way that our own thought can be influenced to turn away from God, good, and to turn toward selfishness, fear, and a herd mentality that can carry us along with unchallenged beliefs.

It also means, though, that we are watching for something. We are conscious, awake to the angel thoughts and ideas and actions that are going on. We are watching, not with fear and dread and paranoia, but with an expectation of seeing wonderful goodness revealed—healing, peace, justice, light!

To watch means to be on the lookout, vigilant, a sentinel at his post, ready to spot the danger and to make sure its threat is handled. And we handle it by calling in the troops—by leaning on and utilizing the qualities of God that deny entrance of the enemy. It is recognizing the omnipotence of God and refusing to believe in another power. It is loving, loving, loving, when hate seems to want to get us to change sides.

Let’s watch without fear. Let’s watch, knowing that we are not trying to stay awake to do some gloomy duty. We are staying alert because we really want to fully witness the beautiful sunlight of God’s healing goodness dawn for us and our world.

“For there’s nothing we can do to oppose the truth; all we can do is align ourselves with it.” (II Corinthians 13: 8, the Voice)

Let’s stop fighting. Let’s stop arguing for our troubles, for limiting beliefs about ourselves, for our fears. It isn’t doing us any good. This battling is a waste of our time and energy. It isn’t going to advance us or bring us healing.

The Truth stands as perpetual conqueror. It is the reality that can’t be avoided or lost, beaten or shaken. It may seem that Truth gets lied about or misunderstood, but that will never change the Truth nor can any opposition to it gain any real standing. Truth is God and God is All. And this divine Truth is goodness, light, Life, Love. It’s the right side to be on and it is the one that brings blessings.

So, let’s do our best to align ourselves with this Truth. Let’s stop taking the other side or worrying about the other side. Let’s keep our thoughts and hearts focused on good. Let’s honor God and what is right and real. Let’s live, as best we are able, in accord with the spirit of goodness and love, and so be in sync with the Truth—that powerful Truth that naturally, necessarily, sets us free.

“…if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.” (Acts 5: 38-39)

We can stay fearless and confident as we seem to battle forces of evil in our individual experience or witness them in the world around us. When we are motivated by good, leaning on a higher Truth than our own egos and personal wills, we can do amazing things. We can make a difference, and nothing can stop that activity. What proceeds from Love, from Truth, from good, can’t be opposed or overthrown. It will win.

On the other hand, those misguided actions of others or the suggestions of discord and pain and fear and selfishness, can’t thrive. They are founded on nothingness. They have nothing to hold them up. It may seem that the enemies to goodness are making headway. They may seem a danger to us—whether they appear to promote injustice in our world or to show up as attacks against our bodies and personal lives—but they are baseless.

For these foes are fighting against God. And God is omnipotent, the One and Only Truth. God is the reality of things, and He is entirely right, just, and good. God is Love, and Love claims victory because it annuls hate, reveals the lie for what it is, and perpetuates the life that is real, good, right, and ours to know and express.

“You will be guarded by God himself. You will be safe when you leave your home, and safely you will return. He will protect you now, and he’ll protect you forevermore!” (Psalms 121: 8, the Passion Translation)

No matter where we go and what we do, God is guarding us. God—infinite Truth, Life, and Love—is accompanying us with all His might and tenderness. We can’t ever be in a place separate from God’s care and wisdom.

We are safe as we advance along our way, walking through our days and through our years. Time cannot take God’s qualities away from us, or distance us from all that is good and delightful and right. Distance can’t separate us from Love or from safety. Nothing can lead us out of peace and into fear, because God’s peace is always journeying with us, wherever Life’s road may take us.

And this protection and affection endures. When we wander, we are companioned. When we return home, we are not left to face either loneliness or our own doubts and fears. We don’t have to leave our home to feel God’s presence, nor do we need to remain sheltered in our “comfort zone” to feel secure and happy. Life is alive in us and with us, and we have the right and ability to feel it every day, wherever we are, forevermore!

“But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].” (Galatians 5: 16, Amplified Bible)

We all may feel at times like we don’t know what to do. We fear we will do the wrong thing or perhaps our past makes us believe we are prone to bad thoughts and actions.

We don’t have to agree with this state of being, full of concern and fear, of doubt and confusion. Instead, we can choose to listen to God’s guidance and to respond to it. We can conscientiously make it a point to watch our thoughts and let God—perfect wisdom and pure Love—reveal what is right for us in this moment and going forward.

It takes some discipline to walk in this light, to be receptive to the Truth at hand for us. But as we get used to doing it, and see how much freer we begin to feel, it gets easier. This listening walk becomes a habit, something that we do each day because it has become a part of life, just as natural as washing our face or brushing our teeth each morning. We do it because it is essential to our day. This habitual walk with God leads us to daily comforts, wise decisions, and new horizons to explore with grace and gratitude.

“Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm.” (Psalms 37: 8, New Living Translation)

Amen! Let’s stop being angry at others, at the world, at ourselves. Let’s take a pause to recognize even those subtle disturbances within that may not be expressed but may simmer beneath the surface.

We can and must stay calm and discover that true peace that’s ours to both feel and share. Anger may feel justified, and at times it may seem to temporarily make us feel better. Our outrage puts the blame on others and makes us feel innocent. Our temper is a reaction that feels like action, but, in truth, it isn’t constructive or helpful in situations, nor does it honor us and who we really are.

Turn from your rage, this verse tells us. And this means we must turn toward something else. Not toward pity or fear or frustration, but toward God. Toward Love. This is trust in the goodness that is truly operating for us and all. This release to God settles us and brings resolution. It is a healing perspective. Anger leads to harm. It stirs us up and makes us ill at ease as well as causing trouble around us. Anger opposes peace, which is God and His true harmonious government.

Let’s do ourselves a mighty favor and help our world thrive as well. Let’s stop being angry. Let’s be alert, but unclouded by rage. Let’s be ready to bring more light and the power of peace to our lives and to our world.

“And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father.” (I Thessalonians 3: 12-13)

This blessing is rich with promise. We can be ready to receive God’s bounty, His influx of inspiration and goodness, grace and wisdom. This great gift of God’s Love, received in our hearts, helps us to progress, to be productive, to make a difference, and to be and to feel truly successful.

God’s Love causes us to love one another. And this love for others—those near to us and those that may be distant in space or in their beliefs—brings meaning to our lives and healing to our experiences. The reception of God’s ever-present Love and the sharing of it through our thoughts and actions awakens us to our own true nature.

And this recognition of our true selfhood is a release from fear and self and the behavior that is based on these errors. This acceptance of Love grounds us in goodness, and finds us not only free of guilt, but unblameable—innocent and out of range of accusations and the fear of them.

Love reveals our true holiness and wholeness. Love is our true being, and God’s Love in us is without end, always ready to be shared and received, with healing as a natural and beautiful result.
