“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (John 14: 18)

We all have times when we feel without comfort. Perhaps, right now, peace is eluding you, rest seems out of reach.

Let’s accept this promise. Let’s be willing to drop our doubts and fears and to let the Christ come into our hearts and minds, into our very being. For while Jesus departed the human scene many centuries ago, the great Truth-teller promised that the Comforter would come to us—to you.

For this Truth is the ever-presence of God, of divine Love, always right where we are, to be felt and known. Jesus proved this. Our oneness with God means the very quality and action of perfect Love is with us always. We can’t be separated from this glorious goodness, and all this means.

You are worthy of comfort, and you are ready for it. And our merciful, tender, powerful Father-Mother God is ready to show us this comfort, to release us from anguish and pain, and let us rest in the awareness that we are not alone, that we are spiritual, that we are fully and unceasingly loved.

The Christ is the awareness of God ever revealing itself. This Christ, our Comforter, is not a person or a material remedy or a certain place or situation. It is the grace of God embracing us in reality, awakening us from any nightmarish beliefs to feel the arms of living, healing Love.

“‘You will not succeed by your own strength or by your own power. The power will come from my Spirit,’ says the Lord of heaven’s armies.” (Zechariah 4: 6, International Children’s Bible)

Our success is not reliant on our own strength or ingenuity. We don’t truly win or make significant progress through personal human efforts. To think that we are responsible for our growth and for the overcoming that may be necessary, is to burden ourselves. To believe that we are personally capable of mighty victory is egotistical.

The Truth is that God empowers us, guides us, directs us. His omnipotence and perfect wisdom are both our release from worry and our reason for rejoicing. Humility naturally lifts us up; for when we lose self, we find God with His Love, ready to show us the better way, the one that is right and healing.

Spirit, not physical might or mental anguish, is where true power comes from. Heaven’s armies are those bold yet gentle divine ideas that promote harmony, peace, and freedom. Let’s rely on that Spirit—God’s infinite, available, goodness—to lead us forward. And let’s be grateful that we’re always on the winning side with God.

“You, Lord, are my shepherd. I will never be in need. You let me rest in fields of green grass. You lead me to streams of peaceful water, and you refresh my life.” (Psalms 23: 1-3, Contemporary English Version)

We can learn to trust. We can let go of the feelings of control or lack of it and allow ourselves to rest. We can receive with willingness the beautiful images that are presented in this verse and accept what they are describing just for us, today.

We are never in need. Our Shepherd is God, the Creator and Provider, the One Who never fails to be with us, for us, loving us without measure. This means we can lay down on that green grass—in a place of fresh promise, of plush newness, of comfort. We can gently go forth toward the streams of life and find them peaceful, easy to approach, and full of new refreshment and energy.

God lets us rest. We are not required to be in charge, to constantly produce and prove and personally show ourselves worthy. The Shepherd doesn’t need this. We are already His beloved ones, and He is showing us, each moment, when we are humbly obedient.

So, for the lamb, life is not a burden. It is a joyful release of fear and responsibility for a grateful trust in a life that is guided, safe, cherished, and full of new opportunities to feast as well as frolic!

“The depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all space. That is enough!” (Science and Health, page 520)

There is nothing more powerful, more wonderful, more healing than divine Love! God’s Love as Cause and expression means tangible blessings for all. Where active Love is, there can’t be hate, fear, discord. There is, instead, comfort, peace, joy, confidence, well-being—Life!

As we recognize and consciously accept that Love is infinite, as this quote reminds us, we can feel the goodness that Love has for us. God’s Love is almighty. God’s Love is measureless. God’s Love can’t be confined. God’s Love is full, complete, precise. It is gentle, yet powerful. It is tenderly touching us, knowing us, showing us who we truly are as the children and image of God’s own glory.

The infinitude of Love is enough! We can know this fact, really cherish the all-encompassing, ever-present nature of Love. There really isn’t anything else we need to know. This Truth is freeing, healing, saving. Love, right where we are, means the birth of new ideas continually. Love’s might and majesty means we are not victims nor are we left alone.

Love fills all space, and so it also fills us up, gives us a feeling of worth, acceptance, and the ability and desire to share this love with those near to us and with our wider world as well.

“Lord, you are my secret hiding place, protecting me from these troubles, surrounding me with songs of gladness! Your joyous shouts of rescue release my breakthrough.” (Psalms 32: 7, the Passion Translation)

We have all surely had those moments where our quiet prayer and contemplation have led to a real breakthrough. We have recognized that stepping out of the fray, stepping back from the problem, shutting off the rumination and fears, has allowed light to break through.

We can know that we have this constant space of protection, for we are always at one with God. His Spirit that made us hides us from the material sense of things, in the great embrace of His reality, the Truth about us and about our Life.

In this communion with God, this recognition of Him as All and the power that controls all, we find calm, and the human thought is opened to receive divine Truth. Inspiration finds us in this secret hiding place. It’s our special, individual experience with God where He’s demonstrating His Love, showing us that we are safe, and singing the songs of gladness that break the mesmerism of worry, pain, discord.

Let’s remember that our rescue is not one of our own devising or one that is reliant on a person or circumstance. Our rescue is from God, the Truth, showing us, telling us, that we are safe, free, loved.

“You won’t have to lift a hand in this battle; just stand firm, Judah and Jerusalem, and watch God’s saving work for you take shape. Don’t be afraid, don’t waver. March out boldly tomorrow—God is with you.” (II Chronicles 20: 17, the Message)

Yes, there is some conquering to do. Yes, we will need to take a stand for what is right and true and good.

But this battle for Truth is not one in which we personally fight. We don’t need to enter the fray, using our own wits or force of will. Our job is to stand firm. Our great honor is to be grateful witnesses to what God can do, what He is doing.

When confronted with challenges, human means and methods and a personal sense of responsibility or defensiveness are neither helpful nor necessary. God’s law is in effect, and He is the enforcer of this law. His omnipotent Allness is already on the scene, ready to annul what would seem to oppose His goodness and Truth. We can rest on His authority and on His infinite ability to care for us.

So, don’t be afraid. Stay faithful to God, more aware of His presence than of some threat that seems to loom. Go forth into Life expectant of victory. God—Almighty Life, Truth, and Love—is with you.

“I will instruct you (says the Lord) and guide you along the best pathway for your life; I will advise you and watch your progress.” (Psalms 32: 8, the Living Bible)

We have the very best Teacher. We are the beloved children of God, taught daily by Him, and watched over without pause and with loving attention. We can find our way down the highways and byways of life as we daily listen and follow.

God has the best way for us to go. His path is one that is revealed by Spirit, paved with the foundation of Truth, and illuminated by the light of Love. If we seem to stray from the way that feels comfortable and peaceful, we can find our way back by listening for the directions that God is readily giving us. The missteps are not losses, but new opportunities to learn and to progress, with God’s eyes upon us and His arms to catch us if we trip and steer us if we get off course.

Let’s know that we are not alone navigating human life, chased by time, limited by matter, impeded by persons and circumstances. We are always abiding in and walking with God, in that immortal Life that reveals more and more goodness, more and more understanding, and more freedom to see and be our true and best selves.

We can gratefully experience each new moment with the awakened sense that we are safely learning and growing in Truth, in grace, and in Love.

“You ordained him to govern the works of Your hands, to nurture the offspring of Your divine imagination; You placed everything on earth beneath his feet:” (Psalms 8: 6, Voice Translation)

God gave man dominion. We have been blessed with supreme authority over the earth, over our human experience.

We can realize that this control comes from God and is not a personal trait nor an overwhelming responsibility. We have been bestowed with the consciousness of our oneness with God. Through our awareness that God is All, and that we are His children, we can feel and utilize that supremacy over our environment, over the conditions that appear on the earth, in our bodies, and in our experiences.

Our release to God is our true dominion. As we obey His divine government, we are powerful representatives of His qualities, and our actions come with His authority behind them. We are not subject to the whims of matter and time and egos. We are supreme over them through God, through our trust in and obedience to the Truth.

And with this conscious acceptance of God as power and we as His beloved, we can see our role as caretakers, in service to Him at all times. We are here “to nurture the offspring of [His] divine imagination.” We are here to love God and to do our best to bring out this love in all that we do, in all that we see, in all that we are.

“Dear children, we must show love through actions that are sincere, not through empty words.” (I John 3: 18, God’s Word Translation)

This clear direction has been echoed through the years by many wise individuals: Actions speak louder than words.

But it isn’t just about good actions, doing nice things. This verse reminds us that we must be sincere in what we do, demonstrating love. These right actions must feel rightly motivated, and our hearts must be in them. It is important to genuinely feel the love in what we do. Doing good with resentment or out of guilt does not bring out the same results nor does it make us feel as satisfied and at peace.

Let’s remember the greeting here is to “dear children.” So, let’s cherish the fact that we can find that innocence again, learn as children do, and discover that warm, easy, sincere goodness and eagerness to give, to help, to love. We can let God show us how doing good, lovingly, at His direction, makes us feel alive. We then feel the love we give.

And we can also know that words themselves are not bad. Speaking to another to help and lift them up, to show them something that we’ve seen that might help them find light, is surely beneficial. It is those empty words that do no good at all. It is saying things we are not sure we feel or that repeat what we think we should say. A sincere word of love, however simple, is powerful, just as genuine acts of kindness can be.

“It is easy to love those who love you—even a tax collector can love those who love him. And it is easy to greet your friends—even outsiders do that! But you are called to something higher: ‘Be perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect.’” (Matthew 5: 46-48, the Voice)

We are called to something higher in the manner and extent to which we love. We must be and can be perfect because we are God’s children. We express His pure goodness and light. We are made in His image to achieve His purpose.

So, let’s love. Let’s love without measure. We can do this. We can surely practice love toward those who are loving towards us or those who we find lovable. But let’s elevate our love to a level more divine, one that we are naturally made to express.

Let’s be kind and respectful toward all. Let’s learn to see God’s child, His beloved idea, in everyone. Let’s behold one another as we would like to be seen. Let’s allow that natural love within us to expand out toward all.

We may not always receive love in return, but as we love as God would have us, as Jesus taught us, we are being true to God and to ourselves. We feel more peaceful, more revived, more alive. For this perfect Love in us multiplies. It heals. It fills us up to where we feel whole. We begin to understand who we really are, and the very act of loving makes us feel genuine joy.
