Daily Inspiration, November 3rd

“…let us pursue [with enthusiasm] the things which make for peace and the building up of one another [things which lead to spiritual growth].” (Romans 14: 19)

Our lives can be full of many activities and a need to achieve in various areas. We want to make a living and we want to take care of our needs. We can do these things successfully and at the same time bring more goodness to others and to the world, and gain a greater joy ourselves.

Paul is reminding us that our best pursuits are those which include the desire and action to bring peace to our experience. We can go about those activities that we feel led or called to do, but we are best served ourselves and best serve others when we help build each other up. When we compete for good, put others down, judge, or make our lives about winning personal victories at whatever cost, we have missed out on true success.

Instead, we should and can approach all that we are doing (as well as being open to new opportunities) with the thought of including and embracing others, building one another up. In doing so, we are really being more true to ourselves. As we love and give, so are we really satisfied and gain so much more in understanding, peace, and happiness.

Let’s have peace and harmony as our goal, and let us pursue this with enthusiasm! For what is a better thing than to have peace abound, to see those around us grateful and happy, and so to feel the real riches that come of doing good.

Grace_Dove-change

“…it is good for the heart to be established and ennobled and strengthened by means of grace (God’s favor and spiritual blessing).”  (Hebrews 13: 9, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

Confidence, strength, dignity, and fortitude are certainly qualities we would desire to have and to express. We can attempt to gain these through human will or by the trials of circumstances and experience. This kind of human strengthening may get us through, but there is a more thorough, more lasting, and truly genuine way to feel stronger and nobler.

It is a heart touched by grace. God’s “favor and spiritual blessing” comes to us not because we have tried to be great or intelligent or in control, but because divine Love simply desires for us to know Him. If we open our hearts, we can receive this grace at any time. This acceptance of grace not only makes us feel stronger and supported by a higher power, it also purifies our ideals and ennobles us; it brings out our true dignity and integrity.

Grace is God’s Love in action. It is a holy influence that is powerful and yet natural, gentle, comforting. God’s grace is always at hand, ready to reach you and show you your freedom, safety, peace.

Open your heart without qualification or judgment or argument. Let God’s grace enter in with its tender power. Grace is the activity of unconditional Love. Gratefully, gracefully, receive.

“…let the Spirit stimulate your souls. Express your joy in singing among yourselves psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making music in your hearts for the ears of God!” (Ephesians 5: 18-19)

It’s always a good time to sing. God, the expressive Spirit of Life, is ever-active and present. This power and goodness is always right where we are, providing us with needed energy and peace and guidance. This loving Spirit is within us, ready to invigorate and stir us into a larger sense of Life and Love.

So, be eager to sing and praise in your heart or out loud, and remember to let the Source of that song also be its audience. We can give up gladly the willful sense of personal control and allow that natural and grateful song to well up in us. We know Love because we are Love. We know Life because we are Life. We can accept these great facts of being and let the praises begin.

These songs to God, acknowledging His presence and power, will bring healing into our lives and to the lives of others. As we actively engage in Spirit’s truest intent of joy and celebration of good, we feel it more deeply and share it more freely. The songs multiply and become the very substance of everything we do, whether work or play, because we have let that Spirit stimulate our souls—awaken us to the fact of divine Love’s presence, purpose, power, and harmony.

“Spirit, God, gathers unformed thoughts into their proper channels, and unfolds these thoughts, even as He opens the petals of a holy purpose in order that the purpose may appear.” (Science and Health, page 506)

There is a clear plan. God’s purpose is certain and it is perfectly controlled, rightly established, satisfying, and fruitful. We can breathe a sigh of relief and let God reveal His intention, in His way and with His flawless timing.

We may feel at times as if we have thoughts and ideas that feel inspired and right, and yet they also seem unclear to us, confused, or fraught with challenges to their realization. Don’t give up on those right aspirations. Neither should you feel as if your life is without a distinct purpose, a right reason to keep walking forward with joy and expectation.

The seed doesn’t know what the flower will look like, and yet within that seed is the purpose to be a glorious flower, as nature would reveal. Trust Spirit, God, to know what the finished product of your goals and of your very life must look like. It must look like Him! Your Life is intended to reveal God’s qualities in a unique and wonderful and necessary way. It already is doing so and will continue to bloom, to surprise, and to delight.

Rest your worries and your frantic need to know exactly what tomorrow must bring, and let God reveal the very right thing at the very right time in the very right way. Enjoy this moment, treasuring God’s loving care for you and your goals. It is safe to pause with God, divine Love. His purpose is a promise and it is always natural to us, and yet holy, powerful, successful, and beautiful.

Daily Inspiration, October 20th

“A discontented, discordant mortal is no more a man than discord is music.” (Science and Health, page 305)

God’s creation is a song. You are that man and woman that is the pure and sweet and resonating melody of God’s Life. You are the music of Soul; God’s own nature expressed purely, beautifully, and harmoniously.

You are God’s perfect composition. His perfect Mind and masterful Spirit never expressed an unfinished or imperfect song. Soul sings forth only clear tones that are right and in tune and lovely. Harmony is the very nature of man. It is the quality and necessary activity of every function and action of Being.

The mortal man—discontented, despondent, frazzled, fearful, uncomfortable, temperamental, confused, or out of sorts—is not God’s man. It is not you. You are music. You are the very celebration of God’s own symphony in action. All His qualities blend perfectly and you are the evidence of that fact.

Don’t listen to that dissonance that the devilish mortal mind would want you to hear and accept as yours to endure. Don’t buy or keep that broken record when the new, live, captivating, inspiring and free theme song of Spirit is yours to experience and enjoy.

You are God’s best song, always well-sung. Join the chorus and know that you and your unique voice belong in it. You have a rightful and comfortable place among the heavenly voices of God’s always-harmonious choir.

Daily Inspiration, October 15th

“Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord…” (Psalms 25: 15)

This perspective is one that will give us a clear vision. Keeping our eyes—our spiritual perception and focus—toward God, will always lead us to Truth, to satisfaction, to what is right and loving and good.

The psalmist knew that when he was looking away from God and conscious of circumstances, the actions of man, and sense testimony, he would miss out on what was real and righteous. He would be turning away from the vital thoughts and guidance that would make him feel confident, peaceful, and free.

Keeping our eyes toward the Lord (and redirecting them there when they get misled and distracted) keeps us looking into the face of goodness, Love, and to the very reality of our own life, as it truly is, not as the human senses might lead us to believe. In God are infinite and gracious possibilities. There is assurance and approval and the most honest view of ourselves.

God is the one true Mind and Life. He is our faithful and wise guide in all things, and we are His image. So when we look to God; when we see the qualities that divine Love must naturally express, we are able to have our eyes naturally opened to just who we truly are, and to just why God’s eyes are ever and lovingly toward us.

Daily Inspiration, October 13th

“Know thyself, and God will supply the wisdom and the occasion for a victory over evil.” (Science and Health, page 571)

What does it mean to know thyself? It’s an important question if we are to obtain that true wisdom and opportunity to overcome evil in our lives. If we are to really live our good life, then it is important to know who we really are.

This quote echoes the sentiments of Shakespeare and other inspired writers and thinkers. The bard said “to thine own self be true.” This is imperative to claiming the rewards that are inherently ours. If we attempt to be someone we are not or to accept less than we are, we dishonor our own heritage and separate ourselves from the natural good that comes of being just who God made us to be.

We will come to know ourselves truly not by what genetics or human history or opinions would say about us. We discover who we are by having a heart-to-heart with God, with Love. It is by turning to God for the good news; it is by recognizing and accepting that we were made by a wise and perfect God Who has maintained us lovingly and fully approves of the idea He made. It is by honoring Him enough to refuse to put on qualities that do not dignify God or us; traits that don’t make us feel safe, peaceful, or truly happy and right. It is also by loving just who we are, without comparison to others, cherishing this uniqueness, and recognizing the power of being authentic.

The victory over evil—a false sense of God and our own identity as His child—is not a distant hope. It is found right where you are. It is being true to you and knowing just how amazing and good and worthy you are!

Daily Inspiration, October 8th

“Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them. Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools. They go from strength to strength…” (Psalms 84: 5-7)

Let your strength be in God. When we lean on His power and His Love, we are able to endure and even to really flourish. The valley of Baca referred to here is also called the Valley of Weeping. When we seem to find ourselves lost in grief, discouragement, frustration, or pain; when we feel lost and alone or afraid, we have a ready reliance and a blessing at hand.

Those very valleys of hardship are precious and often necessary opportunities to give up personal bravery and responsibility and to allow ourselves to humbly let God be God. The Almighty is able to carry you through those low places, wiping your tears away; reminding you of what is true and real and right; telling you that your life is not at the mercy of matter and that you are not the one who carries all the cares on your shoulders.

God is our guide and our protection. He is strong and wise and loving. His leading is loving and natural. It is step by step, day by day, strength to strength. Personal courage is not needed. Rest your weary self on the true power of God and find the real and steady strength of a sweet and satisfying release to the power and presence of God’s Love.

Daily Inspiration, October 6th

“Do as God does. After all, you are his dear children.  Let love be your guide.”  (Ephesians 5: 1-2, Contemporary English Version)

God is Love. We are the very children of divine Love. Kindness, compassion, gentleness, affection, tender regard, respect, understanding, is our very nature. We were made to express Love and to receive it as well.

So, follow God’s built-in intention as you think and live. Let that genuine Love that is God lead you, and follow without timidity or argument. The loving way is always the right and effective way because it has God, Principle, Truth behind it. And remember that divine Love, that most perfect Love of God, knows how to love better, more comprehensively, and more powerfully than we might humanly conceive. Allow that higher and truer Love to love you first. Receive this unconditional love unconditionally, without argument, and gratefully. And then it will be easy to utilize that Love toward others in a way that is right and healing.

Do as God does. This isn’t hardship or above us. It is being true to our own selves. It is a sweet release to those qualities that are the very substance of who we are. It is letting go of self and judgment and fear and allowing ourselves to be free and feel whole. It is laying off that heavy burden of personal sense and its complicated thinking, protectiveness, and worry, and simply being the object and expression of easy, natural, powerful, unifying, harmonizing Love.

Daily Inspiration, October 1st

“…Jesus once said, ‘Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink,’ — presuming not on the prerogative of his creator, but recognizing God, the Father and Mother of all, as able to feed and clothe man as He doth the lilies.” (Science and Health, page 530)

Jesus knew he was cared for by God. He was always conscious that he was at one with God and a grateful recipient of all that his Father-Mother had and expressed. Jesus never took for granted this supply of inspiration, power, and loving provision.

And he knew, as well, that he wasn’t getting special treatment. Jesus was telling us that everyone can rely on God alone to be their ever-capable provider and protector. He recognized God as the Father and Mother of us all, showing no favoritism, but by nature of His Love, ready and forthcoming always with all that each one of us needs each moment.

And this perfect care for us by God does not require personal thought or worry or some special knowledge; nor do we need to fight for our portion of good. There is enough for all. God’s riches are plentiful and just right for us. The lilies don’t need to toil to get the sunshine to shine upon them or the rain to fall upon their sweet blossoms. Likewise, God’s light of Life and His showers of goodness are ours freely, because we are—just as Jesus was—the very child of Her heart and at one with all that is good and the capacity to willingly, gratefully receive the bounty.
