Daily Inspiration, February 4th

“You have shown me the path to life, and you make me glad by being near to me.
Sitting at your right side, I will always be joyful.”
(Psalms 16: 11, Contemporary English Version)

God is our companion and guide. He is taking us on the right course and instructing us along the way. His goodness and clarity and fearless confidence is always with us, defending and encouraging and assuring that we stay the course, see the truest Life for ourselves, and accept its great possibilities, day by day.

God’s qualities of Love, Truth, peace, harmony, are the very demonstration of Life. God is showing us the way the path looks and that the destination is already reached by being on that course, walking in Life and with Love by our side and in our hearts. This is the fulfillment of Life: to walk daily in God’s grace. It is to be with Him, and not in defiance of Him—rejecting both good and our own true identity.

We can also be still in this awareness of His presence. We can sit and relish Life, the fact that we are safe and sound right now and that this moment contains power in its grateful pause. To sit at God’s “right side” is to be in a place of honor and power. It is by aligning ourselves with, trusting, getting comfortable and friendly with divine Love, that we feel at ease in a place of peace and reflected authority. This place is rightfully ours, because God put us there and remains with us.

In His presence and with His light to guide us and companion us, we can let go of the sense of burden and grief and worry. We can, like the Psalmist, simply and always be joyful!

Daily Inspiration, February 2nd

“Here and now we are God’s children. We don’t know what we shall become in the future. We only know that, if reality were to break through, we should reflect his likeness, for we should see him as he really is!.” (I John 3: 2, J.B. Phillips New Testament)

This is a future promise and at the same time a very present assurance.

It may seem that we are constantly seeking a truer and more complete sense of God—of Life and goodness and peace. We yearn to feel better about who we are and to experience contentment in ourselves and with others. John’s message offers us a hope of this deeper awareness. But it also reminds us at the very outset that this hope is already fulfilled, ready, at hand.

Here and now we are God’s children. We are never going to be God’s children more than we already are. We are conceived by Him and designed to absolutely express His purpose, His Life, His continuity of good. We may not always see ourselves clearly, but that doesn’t stop the fact that this is who we are—the beloved ideas of a loving God, made in His image and likeness and built to thrive.

Our grand work of life, then, is discovery. It is each day seeking and finding out a little bit more about God, and by doing so seeing ourselves better as well. We are, in fact, pursuing our true purpose in this; for we are coming progressively to know divine Love more deeply, more purely, more truly, and recognizing this powerful living Love as our very substance, our being, our joy, and our glory!

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly…But his delight is in the law of the Lord… And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” (Psalms 1: 1-3)

How often do we think that the world’s schemes and games and competitiveness and selfishness will give us the most rewards? It seems easy to get wrapped up in the idea that we can make it only if we allow human opinions, self-righteousness, pride, revenge, egotism to bring us riches and happiness.

True blessings are not found in lowering ourselves to such limiting beliefs about life. They are revealed and claimed as we walk in God’s counsel—listen to and follow good, righteousness, peace, honesty, humility, love. The strength of God, not the bravado of personality, gains us real contentment and security. Listening to the inner voice of God’s wisdom and tenderness, leads us to real prosperity and joy.

Stay true to yourself as God’s own idea, not something lesser and limited. Realize that it is truly your delight to be good and to do good; to be kind and forgiving; to share light rather than holding to and repeating negative thoughts or actions.

You will love how it feels to be a sincere follower of God’s good way, and this genuine delight in His law will keep you sustained, protected, and truly, richly blessed.

“And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.” (Exodus 3: 14)

God defined Himself unequivocally and clearly to Moses. He announced His name as that which is, and is in the present. The I AM constitutes the One Ego that knows and exists and has first and final authority. God’s nature is without argument and without opposition. It simply is, and is All.

God spoke to Moses’s conscious need to understand, to know, to feel confident in his own calling and duty, which was to lead the children of Israel to freedom. God’s assurance to Moses leaves no room for timidity or fear. It is a clear pronouncement that Moses was not leading through his own power or by his own personal desire. This great mission was God’s intention and He was the authority, Moses’s own firm reliance going forward.

I love the sense of completeness to this announcement by God. His name is a complete sentence. It is subject and definitive action. It does not bring other forces in, and yet it has a wholeness, an inclusiveness, that each of us can claim; because God being the One “I AM” means that Love and Life and Truth are the starting point and substance of our own lives—always complete and in the present tense, full and final, reliable, clear, confident, and good.

Daily Inspiration, January 21st

“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.” (Isaiah 40: 11)

Divine Love is our faithful Shepherd. God’s loving Principle is always guarding each and every one of us. The Truth of God’s love, control, perfection is always with us, watching over us, keeping the fields of our lives safe from wolves and brambles, and making sure our bodies are nurtured and well.

God feeds us with a tender patience and care. He doesn’t leave us alone—watching with diligence but not judgment, making sure we are safe and that we know this. This Shepherd is always looking out for our needs—giving us the freedom to frolic when joyful expression is needed, and likewise carrying us safely home when we feel weak or uncertain or afraid.

I love that this verse reminds us that those that are with young are led gently, so gently, along the path and pasture of Life. This means that we are guided with parental care as we care for our own children. We are little sheep, dear children ourselves, to this Father-Mother-Shepherd. And these young ones of ours include also our new ideas and inspirations. As the seeds of right desires begin to develop in consciousness, our Shepherd gently leads us forward, with those new thoughts and intentions, protecting them while they develop fully, and making sure we get where we are going.

God’s flock gets tended individually and as a collective whole. Each of the sheep are known fully and loved completely, and all are made to play harmoniously together, as one fold of a Shepherd called Love.

“Love, the divine Principle, is the Father and Mother of the universe, including man.” (Science and Health, page 256)

The parent of all creation is God. The Source and active Principle of the universe is God, perfect good. This Father-Mother gave birth to you and to all, and His substance endures as the very quality and nature of each one of us. We were born of this perfect Principle, this brilliant intention, and the whole of all Life proceeds from this one and only creative power.

Our Father-Mother is Love itself. We were created by Love, of Love, and for Love. No idea in the universe was caused by anything less than divine Love.  You are the child of Love’s holy purpose and Love’s expansive glory. You are constantly being fathered and mothered by the very quality of perfect Love. This is both your origin and your destiny–to be the living child of Love.

And you have countless brothers and sisters, also born of Love, of the common Principle that underlies all creation. We are all equally rejoiced over by this Mother. We are all guarded by this Father. Love’s infinite facets—kindness, understanding, mercy, forgiveness, comfort, laughter, assurance, uplift, safety, tenderness—are always being expressed toward you and through you. You were born to bless and be blessed, loved among the loved. Realize yourself to be the very son and daughter of divine Love and the recipient and proof of all that means!

“Judas had the world’s weapons. Jesus had not one of them, and chose not the world’s means of defence. ‘He opened not his mouth.’ The great demonstrator of Truth and Love was silent before envy and hate.” (Science and Health, page 48)

Deception, ignorance, selfishness, and pride fueled Judas and those who accused Jesus. They sought to blame and shame and persecute this inspired man, using any reason they could to find innocence guilty.  They twisted Jesus’s own words against him in hopes of incriminating him toward their own ends.

Judas betrayed Jesus with the world’s weapons, which included self-justification and fear. He chose money and prestige and aligned himself with human power, believing that would be his salvation. Jesus, on the other hand, drew upon divine power, that which was truly saving.

Through his awareness of God’s presence and his oneness with Him, Jesus did not need to lower himself to fighting through self-defensiveness, egotism, or reverse accusation. He did not open his mouth. He kept silent before the adversary, thus giving no life or power to envy and hate. Jesus wasn’t passively setting himself out as prey for wolves by his silence. He was actively aligning himself with the only real power—divine Truth and Love. This was his salvation. This complete devotion to Love demonstrated eternal Life, freeing him from the grave of complicity with mortal beliefs and uplifting him to his true estate of glory, joy, peace.

Jesus is our example. Resist the temptation to get in the mud with hate and envy and fear. Be silent and certain in the safety of Love’s everlasting protection and affection.

“Spirit diversifies, classifies, and individualizes all thoughts, which are as eternal as the Mind conceiving them; but the intelligence, existence, and continuity of all individuality remain in God, who is the divinely creative Principle thereof.” (Science and Health, page 513)

Creation is full of God’s wonderful ideas. They are unique expressions of His infinite nature and goodness. Each one of us is designed to give evidence to God in an individualized way—none of us exactly like the other, but each complete and right and whole.

Diversity is essential to God’s infinite nature. He must display His grandeur and glory and power and Life and Love in a multitude of ways. The universe is full of His limitless goodness, and the way in which this brilliant Mind expresses Himself is through His ideas, including you and me.

We are special and individual. But we are not alone or disconnected. We are not separate in this uniqueness, but rather at one with the very Mind that saw fit to make us and to share us with the world, in all our beautiful and incomparable glory. And this means everything about our true and perfect nature and individuality is controlled and kept by God. He never loses any one of us, nor can we lose any right quality of life.

God loves each of us uniquely and fully. We are all diverse and dazzling stars in the heaven of God’s vast and perfect Mind.

“The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.” (Proverbs 10: 22, New International Version)

God’s blessings to us are not to be gained through pain and laborious effort. It isn’t by hardship and punishment and shame and trouble that we receive the riches of true wealth. God’s gift of Love to us is our wealth, our prosperity, our peace, because it brings with it all that is truly right and satisfying.

We can gratefully give up the belief that we have to work our way up to God’s grace—starting as miserable sinners and climbing arduously upward in hopes of a possible absolution. God did not create us in order to tease us with goodness and deprive us of it through punishing conditions. This is the liar’s mesmerizing belief, but it is not the Truth of our loving God Who is supreme over all.

The blessing of the Lord was given to you as an inheritance because you are the heir of Love, the very evidence and object of this all-embracing goodness. While we may at times find that human challenges do help us to grow in wisdom and an awareness of reality, God does not require these woes as a necessity to gaining His blessing. The treasure is and always has been ever-present and infinite Love—yours freely, plentifully, naturally, and right now.
