“Because the heart of our God is full of mercy towards us, the first light of Heaven shall come to visit us—to shine on those who lie in darkness and under the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the path of peace.” (Luke 1: 78-79, JB Phillips New Testament)

We can feel the morning light touch our faces. We can see the new day opening up before us with goodness and grace. We are never left alone in the dark; never left to feel broken and hopeless. Even our fears and our own self-judgment can’t stop God’s light from shining in on us, showing us the way to freedom.

Because God is Love. He is perfect Love. So, He always shows us mercy and understanding even when we don’t feel we deserve it or that it is within reach. God finds us in our deepest darkness, the depths of despair, and shows us that, in fact, it isn’t about us at all. It’s about God’s faithful Love and its uninterrupted activity.

God must have us know Him, express Him fully. We were made to shine with God’s magnificent light, and so He shows us this radiance—helps us see its availability within us and reveals opportunities to see this goodness even more in the dark times, because those experiences have revealed humility.

And humility has us looking up, looking toward a power greater than ourselves. And there it is, to be found, always—Love and its living, healing, saving light of Truth beaming on us and all.
