“Step by step will those who trust Him find that ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.’” (Science and Health, p. 444)

God is certainly ready to help us. His presence as infinite Love, perfect Mind, eternal Life, can keep us safe and comforted, peaceful and successful. We can turn to our Father-Mother-God and always have a reliable Source of strength and protection. This divine Love is ever-present and always active. Love must and always does love.

Note that in this quote we are told to trust God step by step. This certainly means relying on God and His Truth in each new moment as we walk through daily life—when things get rough and even when they seem to be going well. God is our constant companion, and His care is beyond measure—full, ready, and precise.

We can also remember that step by step means one moment of understanding at a time. We may not know exactly how to trust. We may feel confused and uncertain. We may seem to allow circumstances to draw us in and mesmerize us into fear and doubt. But we can take one step at a time with God, learning how to believe. We can let each moment be one small moment of teaching by God. We can be awake to reasons we can trust and occasions to simply release because we don’t know what else to do.

These steps can be slow or fast. It doesn’t matter. Either way, we are dwelling in God’s care, companioned by His wisdom. We are being lovingly led in just the way we need to find and feel that present help in trouble with each new day, step by step, hand in hand with our forever patient and always available Father-Mother-God.
