“…this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.” (I John 3:11)

This is the primary tenet that Jesus preached to his followers. He taught his disciples from the very beginning to love one another. This was more than promoting nice behavior. It was essential to Jesus’ mission, the one that his students would perpetuate.

Jesus knew that if one was to prove the presence and power of God—His supremacy—one needed to be obedient to His nature. And God’s nature is Love. To love one another is to express God, to genuinely obey and honor Him, by being like Him.

And this love of God and of one another is truly natural to us. It is not who we should be, but who we are. Loving one another is indeed the ‘message that ye heard from the beginning’—from our very origin. It has always lived in our hearts. So, love isn’t something we try to do, hope to do. We love one another by remembering that Truth, remembering who we truly are as the very children of Love itself.

Let’s cherish this great privilege we have to show forth God’s nature. By loving one another we are able to help others, to bring healing to our world, and to feel more alive and at peace ourselves.
