“You won’t have to lift a hand in this battle; just stand firm, Judah and Jerusalem, and watch God’s saving work for you take shape. Don’t be afraid, don’t waver. March out boldly tomorrow—God is with you.” (II Chronicles 20: 17, the Message)

Yes, there is some conquering to do. Yes, we will need to take a stand for what is right and true and good.

But this battle for Truth is not one in which we personally fight. We don’t need to enter the fray, using our own wits or force of will. Our job is to stand firm. Our great honor is to be grateful witnesses to what God can do, what He is doing.

When confronted with challenges, human means and methods and a personal sense of responsibility or defensiveness are neither helpful nor necessary. God’s law is in effect, and He is the enforcer of this law. His omnipotent Allness is already on the scene, ready to annul what would seem to oppose His goodness and Truth. We can rest on His authority and on His infinite ability to care for us.

So, don’t be afraid. Stay faithful to God, more aware of His presence than of some threat that seems to loom. Go forth into Life expectant of victory. God—Almighty Life, Truth, and Love—is with you.
