“With tender humility and quiet patience, always demonstrate gentleness and generous love toward one another, especially toward those who may try your patience.” (Ephesians 4:2, the Passion Translation)
Gentleness and generosity are such beautiful qualities. They are so healing because we are expressing God’s own nature as we treat one another with lovingkindness and care.
It may be easy to feel an overflow of good toward those whom we love or those who we feel are deserving of our attention and affection. It may be more difficult to remain gracious and tenderhearted toward those why try our patience, who seem difficult for us to get along with or who we believe behave in ways that we don’t approve of.
But we can’t pick and choose. In fact, those individuals who challenge us may very well be the ones who most need our love. And in our gentle kindness toward them, we give ourselves the gift, too, of feeling God’s love unite, rather than divide us.
This love must be genuine, not superficial. We must express these qualities with tender humility and quiet patience. It isn’t just what we do. It’s how we do it.
Let’s lean more on God and His Love. Let’s discover the freedom of humility and act towards others with sincere kindness, quiet sweetness, and loving respect.
